I think the amusement price is for the 3-D glasses...I unfortunately went to a 3-D movie once...there was a fee for it being in 3-D...I suppose for the glasses.

In germany you pay maximum 10€, thats less than 10$.
And germany is THE tax-land.We have taxes for everything. You pay taxes on your salary, everything that you buy includes taxes, even if you die and your kid inherits your house it has to pay taxes ( And remember, you already HAD pay taxes for the house). I hate germany !

I pay amusement tax on a regular basis. It`s called an "XBOX Live Subscription". Bastards.

@Ollie, I know you`re kidding (I lol`d at least), but have you checked the exchange rate recently? 0.9805 at time of posting... the Canadian Dollar is pretty much on parity with the American Dollar right now...

@ZNaught

Thank god you`re here to tell us all how it is, please stop wasting your god given intellect on us, storm the capitol and deliver your message to the american people at large. I am so in awe of the way you just broke this down, i never would have realized my laziness was forcing canadians to pay a ten percent amusement fee. Thank you, and god bless you and your amazing brain.

exactly why i don`t go to the movies...

I used to rent movies from blockbuster and copy them, but soon it became close to the same price to rent them as it was to buy them.

It`s Canada: GST stands for Goods and Services Tax. "Amusement Tax" is probably a local municipal tax. But notice that the theater changed their ticket prices so that the overall charge is an even number, probably the ticket price before the greedy local government stepped in. 14.50CAD = 14.17USD. 3D movies in the US are currently around $15USD, so that`s not that bad, considering your eye-strain will be treated for free.

You stupid fudgekers. Its not the fact of having to pay it. Its the fact that they try to hide the charge with something some public relations gerkwad thought would sound cool an slip by unnoticed.

An amusement tax? Oh bugger, guess I`d better avoid the internet and TV for a few days while I scrape together some money. Also I must now pay a Bemusement Tax on top of that...

@pdjr - There are exceptions in this new taxation. With "actors" such as Ashton Kutcher, the tax is merely not applied.

Funny fact, As ridiculous as it is for a cineplex to charge $12.50 to sit in a chair and watch a screen, this comes no where close to the profit they make from concessions.

McDonald`s soda manages to bring in over 500% profit, and their large drink is only around $2. Imagine the actual figures of a cineplex`s $8 large drink. The pop corn is around the same. The $1 they charge to get butter on there is also a rip off.

I refuse to go to the theater to just "watch a movie". I only go if there is a good movie anymore. If their business is really hurting that bad, they should consider lowering their prices to something that doesn`t focus on profits so much, and instead focuses on giving people some entertainment without ruining their financial situation.

that`s stupiddddd.
in the UK we have "orange wednesdays".. which means if you`re with the mobile hone company orange, you and a friend go in for buy one get one :D
but there is a new thing where they charge a little extra on top your orange wednesday when viewing a 3D film .. and it cost me £9.90 for me and my bf to go see a 3D film which i thought was really expensive with our discount :/

and as a student i get discount,
full adult price is about £7
and student is £6 ( it was less but went up recently aswell)
so are all cinemas in America this expensive?
there is an extra £1.50 charge for 3D films where i live.
insanee.. it`s so expensive...

Nowadays customer has to endure loud & rude behavior in the screening room.

Ticket $ goes to the theater franchise and movie rental. Concessions pays payroll and maintenance. So, I don`t mind $8 for 50 cents worth of popcorn. Theater profits would go up if they went back to using coconut oil to cook the popcorn and if they`d strictly police the screening rooms.
