In reality, it`s carbs, ie, not meat, that tends toward people gaining weight. Consider the Masai, who eat nothing BUT meat, and drink milk, no carbs whatsoever, and are some of the healthiest people in the world. Same with many of the Eskimo tribes.

Well if you wanted to save the whales wouldn`t you not want them to get skinny so they would still be whales?? cuz once they lose the weight they would no longer be whales now would they. And correct meat doesn`t make you gain weight, and they actually found that eating vegan or veg isn`t all the good for you either

If you are a fat vegan - you are cheating when no one`s watching at night. A fat vegetarian, sure - you could sit around eating pasta and ice cream all the time. That advertisement, like most things PETA presents, has little basis in reality, but rather garners attention so PETA maintains itself in the spotlight. Vegetarians tend to be thinner than non-vegetarians because vegetarians *tend* to be more health-conscious than non-vegetarians. Though as with anything, there are exceptions, and this is surely not *always* the case.

My roommate was a vegetarian. She was obese as all hell. It`s not about being "health conscious" or vegetables being good for you---it`s about how much you eat in relation to how much you move around. I`m pretty sure if Vegans ate cider candy all damn day, they would get pretty fat pretty quickly.

MOst vegetarians have no idea about what they are actually eating anyway. Half of their intake usually has some sort of animal byproduct associated with it. Salad dressing, for example, usually has Calcium searate in it (cow by-product). Even toothpaste! LOL poor veggies....trying to be good at least though right?

jamie76 - Study after study? That you pull out of your ass? The American Dietetic Association has stated that vegetarian diets are appropriate for all individuals during all stages of the life cycle. Vegetarian diets tend to be lower in saturated fat and cholesterol, have higher levels of dietary fiber, magnesium and potassium, vitamins C and E, folate, carotenoids, flavonoids and other phytochemicals. We meet and exceed requirements for protein. And it`s associated with a number of health advantages like lower blood cholesterol levels, lower risk of heart disease, lower blood pressure levels, ect. And even without that, chicken is like the unhealthiest food considering how it`s made and is legally allowed to absorb up to 11% of a liquid called "fecal soup." 83% of all chicken meat is infected with either campylobacter or salmonella at the time of purchase. I hope you eat that poo everyday.

@jamie76: I think you`ll find that if you google "vegetarian bone density" the results are conflicting. There are ones that claim it does, and ones that claim it doesn`t, even ones that claim vegans have better bone density that meat eaters. All from unbiased sources. There have also been studies on vegan Buddhist nuns that have shown they have the same bone density as any meat eater. So maybe it`s YOU who should do some research before you claim stuff like that.

But back on topic, yeah, this ad is stupid. Vegetarians can be fat, thin or anything inbetween. Bloody PeTA are always pulling sh*t like this! They basically shoot themselves in the foot everytime they do something like this (which is pretty damn regularly!)

I actually like the thought of becoming a vegetarian. It sounds healthy (which I`m sure some people have pointed out that it`s not) but staying only veggie your whole life does not sound like fun. You have to have meat once in a while... it taste delicious. !

    ... Wow...

Seriously, people can be fat no matter what they`re diet is. It all depends on how much you eat and how much exercise you do. Which, for most of these people, switching to being a vegetarian would result in MORE eating because it would take more food to fill them up...

On the subject of weight loss, though... Through the help of my Marine friend`s guidance, I`ve made a goal to lose some serious weight this summer. I`m starting the day I get back from a con that runs tomorrow `til Sunday.

I refuse to be a lazy fat ass any longer! Wish me luck, fellow IAB`ers! I might not be back for a while... o_0

actually you can be fat or skinny it depends on what you eat as vegetarian, you can live and be perfectly healthy being veg. i was for a wile but i gave up because of the veg meals (the ones that have all the protine and b 12) were too expencive for me. most of the food is good and i felt so much better and even lost a little weight untill all i ate was cheese cus thats all i could offord that wasnt meaty. its fine if you have the money but if you dont then it can be a little hard to do

Ericka, in order to be a healthy person you need to not eat ready meals, veggie or not.
And as a size 10 veggie(english sizes), I have never seen a fat veggie, most are slimmer than me, and I really eat whatever I want. It really is a diet that agrees with the human body fairly well.

Well, of course not, dear. Most vegetarians are starving all the time. I don`t say you are. I just say vegetarianism is the best way to starve your body to the point of malnourishment. If it was so healthy, why do most vegans have to take supplements?

Aren`t the people at Peta sooo lucky to be able to sit around on their asses thinking up witty slogans like this one! Go and help clean up the oil spill instead! Anyway - protein is much better for you than carbs. :-p

Every member of PETA should go die in a hole filled with delicious meat.

When they learn to love meat (I said WHEN, not IF), we can let them free.

I remember having a debate about a PETA video on youtube with a girl trying to convince me of all the health benefits of being vegetarian. She had a link to her myspace profile on her channel and turns out she was obese. When I brought that to her attention she got butt hurt and wouldn`t reply. Remember vegetarians...just because cake, pasta and chips don`t contain meat that doesn`t make them healthy!

Well, I guess PETA members can`t have oral, since they would have meat in their mouths....

So now we see what PETA and all the vegan-loving soul-healing silver-cord aura-painting reiki energy channelling hippies really think. They just love themselves and hate fat people. No surprise there. Personally I find pasty-skinned emo eczema-ridden lentil munchers revolting. But hey, that`s just my opinion, I don`t go around putting it up on billboards.

Brandysnap I agree. Im veg, but i still eat way too much bread, pasta, and junkfood. Ive lost 15 pounds so far this year, but its hard cause i love these things. You gotta watch what you eat no matter what your diet is.

We are omnivores and are equipped to eat meat, yes. But during our evolutionary history we`ve never eaten this MUCH meat. Our portions of meat are way out of line.

I think those of you who write-off vegetarianism as unsubstantial probably don`t know what you`re talking about.

Pescetarianism has been proven to be the best possible diet.

But really, if you want to keep your "you need protein which you can`t get from any other source!!!" argument, go ahead.

It`s all a matter of portion size. Just because you eat meat doesn`t mean you`re going to be heavy, and just because you`re vegetarian or vegan doesn`t mean you`re going to be lighter. Eat what you want, just don`t go overboard.

Honestly, who gives a poo? worry about yourself, let others eat themselves into oblivion if that`s what they want.

Yeah, too bad being vegetarian and being part of Peta are completely different topics here. One involves not eating meat. The other involves not eating meat while still slautering thousands of animals.

Give me a lineup of 9 omnivores and 1 vegan and I can`t spot him/her 99.9% of the time. Vegans look different. Humans have been eating meat for THOUSANDS of years, what makes it so bad now? Too much meat is bad, yes. But NO meat is also bad.

And of according to this ad, all fat comes from meat. Stupid propaganda and people who believe it without any research.

You`re wrong, no meat is not bad. If you know how to eat, it`s very healthy to not eat meat, eggs, or dairy. There are professional athletes who are vegan, there`s nothing wrong with it.

Stupid propaganda and people who believe it without any research.

Yeah, you might try some research yourself there genius. I`m not going to get into a big debate here, but you don`t have the facts so you`re as stupid as the people you`re against.

I`m not a PETA supporter, they make some really stupid mistakes. But I am vegan and have done a lot of research on it.

Oh and eating meat has always been bad, but people didn`t know it long ago. Just like they didn`t know how to cure diseases we treat every day now.
