pirate legs indeed. he walks kinda funny now. but at least he walks. and well, too. for, you know, a cat who had his feet severed. I wonder how that came about in the first place. some other wack experiment that surgeon did? naw. that couldn`t be it, right?

"I`m thinking about getting metal legs, it`s a risky operation but it`ll be worth it."
That`s the first thing that popped into my head when I read the article about this cat. He`s so adorable, it`s like he was waiting for those legs.

aww =^w^= super cute cat! i would think they should make the pegs more like actual cat feet then making them like corks

That`s cute, but doesn`t seem incredibly groundbreaking. They just gave him little pirate legs.

"cats don`t walk on pegs. Why didn`t they make more of a cat like hind leg?????"

The way their modled gives then a more natural degree of movement or wobble. Making them paw shaped and not cylinder would have not made that as easy to achieve.

The cat doesn`t care what they look like, he`s just happy to be walking.

Seems like a new cat would have been cheaper.

The problem here is a lack of focus. Next time, throw the cat further into the combine blades so it doesn`t survive. It could even be beneficial as fertilizer. Problem solved all around.

What a waste of time and energy saving that piece of sh*t cat.

Cats = Suck

@miasmaat like I mentioned below these are proto types the first time they have tried this. I am sure in the future they will be able adapt the size and colour

they are too tall. its not healthy for his back. didnt they freaking calculate that? i mean they designed the things from scratch it seemed. and if the doctor is industrial strength duct taping the state of the art designed bendy feet, they arent going to be bendy are they, retard?!

@Oblivia This is a proto type it is the first time it has been done. I am sure that in the future they will make them in different colours and heights to adapt to the cat it is being fitted on

@RepostPolice why would he be a stalker kitty? Also his feet had to be removed because of an accident or something i`m not 100% but his feet had to get cut off so they decided to try and make bionic feet

i was about to ask if it could run and/or jump though....and i guess if it was trying...then i`m sure in a week`s time or less it probably could...

"Pretty cool. My only concern is that a cats` hind legs normally slope forward at the knee and his prosthetics don`t seem to mimic that. "

Valid point, but and most cats have hind feet. I`m pretty sure the cat would rather have non perfect non sloping prosthetics then none at all. I`m sure as he gets more practice in he will accommodate the differences better. I`d be alittle more concerned about the metal and pressure the `feet` put on it causing pain. Looks good so far though.

I have to confess though, if this happened to my cat I would do what they do with those dogs whose back legs give out/are paralysed.

Though I suppose that doesn`t give them the same freedom as their own new feet do.

Hopefully this helps human science out too.

Yeah, it does seem like a lot of money to spend on a cat, *but* it`s all about advancing the technology. If something went wrong, it`s better that it go wrong on a cat than on a human. Plus, wouldn`t it be great if they got this down so well that the price fell and it became hardly bigger a deal than fixing an animal to restore its ability to walk? A couple of rods, prosthetic feet, and tape can`t be that expensive.

I read a story about the new technology in bionics in NatGeo a while back (I`d bet some of you read it, too). That is money well spent, but some idiot wrote in a letter in the next issue about how giving armless people the ability to function normally again was a waste of money, apparently. Yeah, it`s expensive now, but everything drops in price once it`s been perfected and produced in greater numbers. Obviously bionic limbs will never be cheap (although they have extremely basic prosthetic legs now for ~$20 for sending to 3rd world nations), but it will get better

Gerry1of1: blind? because it could be done on humans. and it`s better to take the risk on a cat than a human? it`s called medical advancement.

Aww, it even seems relatively cheap as a surgery. Just 2 metal rods attached to skin in his hind legs, and little balls attached to them. What a great sight.

Amazing. Now, I would personally say that they should work on more cat-like limbs (in a way so that he could do all the jumping and etc. that a normal cat does... but for a start this is an amazing thing.

they should have gave him the sproingy kind, like the legs the amputee runners have... he could have an unfair advantage over other cats.
