For those who want to know what it was and carried: The Haybusa mission was the first attempt to bring back a solid sample from the surface of an asteroid for scientific study. In the video the speck you can see on the right hand side from the start to the finish is actually the re-entry capsule with the sample. This was the only part of the craft designed to re-enter the earths atmosphere so whilst the probe broke up completely, it completed its mission of returning an asteroid sample safely to earth :)

Anyone else think of the opening cinematic from Halo 3, as Master Chief reenters the atmosphere?

That was pretty damn awesome, but it would have been cooler to watch while tripping on LSD.

It`s beautiful, and a little sad. Where a whole satellite is sent off, only a small piece comes back.

I suspect that the bit at the end was what survived re-entry.
