Girlfriend Fed Up With Boyfriend`s WOW Obsession

Submitted by: xXxcupcakeXx 7 years ago in Misc

Girlfriend deletes her boyfriend"s level 80 WOW characters. That"s cruel, girly. Watch until the end for reaction.

I got a gamer boyfriend and I have to agree with everyone.. gamers do spend a lot of time investing in their games. Its just a part of their lives. Instead of getting pissed about no "you and me" time..why not pick him up some cigs, mountain dew and funyuns when he`s on a raid one night? Maybe even a blow job if he completes a quest in record time. If you still want him in the `real world" then just ask for one night out, balancing it with something you would like to do and something he would like to do. Zombie movie and a nice dinner afterwards? Maybe even some nookie in the car later? if you really care about the guy, help him learn to balance it out. If he can`t..then find a new guy that suits your needs better. Having a gaming boyfriend isn`t easy but its fun when you learn to work together and balance it all out.

This was not cool. I`ve never played WoW and I don`t plan to but when I`ve invested a lot of time and money into something I enjoy then It`s no ones right to take that away from me. This girl should have sat down with her boyfriend and talked about his gaming and his more than likely addiction and come to a conclusion to help him cut down on it. I hate people who think it is ok to do things like this. If you disagree with something you have to sort it out face to face not do something nasty like that. I`m not talking just about the game but the whole attitude towards addictions we disagree with. Just because my girlfriend likes to smoke and I hate it doesn`t mean I take away all of her cigarettes.

Hey babe- after hundreds of dollars and hundreds of hours I am completely going to be TOTALLY understanding when you destroy all of that investment. I`m so glad we didn`t discuss my addiction like adults and take genuine and concrete steps to help me move away from what was a time and money sink- instead you just erased everything I have spent the last 3 years building, without warning, without my permission and without provocation. Thanks! I know this relationship is going to turn out great since we have so much trust built up!

"lol she lost him over 450 bucks."

No, she lost him his game, he lost him his monitor.

While I don`t condone her behaviour, the fact he obviously has anger management issues (I used to be like it, so I do honestly know. He`s right to be pissed, he`s an idiot to flip out like that) means he needs help. But she should leave the guy if that`s how he`s going to be. I actually wonder what he did after going off camera.

For all those who says "Never give your girlfriend your WOW password", she didn`t need it. This is more of a case of "Never leave your account logged on when you leave the computer". I always close the game down if I leave the computer.

It might still be possible to recover but yeah she was wrong in doing that. While I do not condone obsession, it is wrong to destroy what belongs to others. Maybe an intervention next time? Or maybe she could have just dumped him. If he gave more commitment to her than I could see it, like if they had kids or were married.

I know, was an incredible dick move.., but its the way to go with addiction to games... you wouldnt believe how your brain reacts in the same way to these kind of videogames like the way it reacts with addiction to drugs, even some fisiological effects.
Would you keep your loved ones on drugs if you could take them away?

I was addicted, and i wish someone else did this to me at the right time. Just... dont know, with a bit of love, i would be happier than all that reality i built arround me.

Average time for someone Glued to the computer about (About 6-10hours in a day) would take around 1-2 months(14.99-29.98) to get to 80 and he had 4 lvl 80`s = 4-8 months(59.66 - 119.92)+ Wow original(19.99)+Burning Crusade(29.99)+ Wrath of lich king(39.99)=89.97+4 months(59.66=149.63) or 89.97+8 months(119.92=209.82)

The fact that he actually had a girl friend leads me to believe he was a 8 month

Maths not Fully correct because most of the numbers a estimates........

Fun fact - she also screwed him on the calling CS about being hacked because she deleted the items his warlock was wearing and those aren`t recovered

Hello Blizzard? My account was hacked. I lost several level 80 toons. Can you restore them? Thanks.

I can see how that would be difficult. Sure you have to wait awhile while they investigate, but they`d restore it. Also, you`d probably find out from them it came from your own IP address. o.O

I don`t play the game and never understood the addiction to it. But that was still a really stupid thing to do. Talk to him about it and threaten to break up if he doesn`t cut back on his playing time. She`s as ignorant and inconsiderate as she thinks he is by playing so much. Of course he went off the deep end with his reaction too, so they probably made for each other. I just hope they don`t reproduce. Either one of them. Ever.

I would have reacted a little differently. Wait until she`s out of the house, then delete everything on her phone, ipod, mp3 player, laptop, etc. Then break up with her. See if she can take her own medicine.
BTW, I don`t play WOW, but she`s a royal bitch for doing that. "Wah. He doesn`t devote 100% of his time and attention on my over inflated ego. Wah."

Ok. Lets say I destroy something that takes you 4 years to make/build/collect/achieve.

Something you`ll potentially never, ever be able to recreate.

Think photos, artwork for example. My wife writes novels and is trying to get them published. What if I just delete that 7 years of her life?

What should the reaction be? The novels aren`t "real", they`re just something she has spent years of her life building.

It`s not a collection of real events. Why should it matter?

Why is it a massive dick move on my part to destroy them?

1: I know you can get 3 level 80s in under 4 years. That`s just how long I`ve been playing. My characters have various things you cannot get anymore (The Title on my Hunter for example).

2: You can get the characters back, but I`m assuming he doesn`t know that.

Think of it this way: through his mind he was thinking of the hundreds and hundreds of hours which he must have logged into the game and that he`d never get those back. It`s like she robbed him of solid weeks from his life. I know some people say its his fault, but the truth is after a while and addiction is an addiction. I don`t agree with either of their actions.

"what kind of person would do that to someone they "care" about."

so, its wrong to take drugs away from a druggie or alcohol from an alcoholic? he obviously has problems if you noticed how he reacted, his reaction is not much different than a meth-head who can`t get his fix

Male 661
Sure, he probably got his chars back in a day or so.

The question is, what kind of person would do that to someone they "care" about. Destroying something that means a lot to them, and brings them a lot of joy? As far as obsessions go, that`s a pretty benign one, could be meth...

this is actually quite common of WoW players when they lose something like that, though I would`ve tried more than twice logging in and then checked the wow armory to see if they were still there, then contacted blizzard for a hacked account. I freaked out when blizzard took one of my toons to fix it, I was on hold with them for 2 hours trying to find him...

btw, I wish my wife would`ve done that to me when I was badly addicted. I would`ve been mad for maybe a week but it would`ve gotten me away from the computer

If you know anything about WoW, you would know that level 80 character accounts with good items can sell for thousands of dollars, it happens regularly, at least high hundreds. So when you work your ass off for something not only that you care about but actually has a worth far more than $200 I can understand his anger.

There a countless other clips involving this scenario of _____ does ____ so ____ does ____ to get back at them, and it`s rare that anybody gets worked up. But if we`re going to take THIS clip seriously, I`ll just go along with it.

Just like you shouldn`t get a girlfriend`s name tattood on you in case you break up, don`t give her a password to something that means a lot to you in case there`s a fight. Duh f*cking duh.

First of all. From what ive read just because she knows how to delete characters on WoW doesnt mean she knows how to play the game its not that hard to sit there and see a "delete character" button, and see that it says type in delete then do that, then go on to that character (his favorite) and delete all his gear. Its not that hard to figure out.
As for deleting his characters, faarrrrr to wrong. He only had what it looks like no more then 3 80s i dont remember i read through comments after watching, to lazy to look back. I dont understand unless he bought it not so long ago, to sit there and say he is addicted. if she wants to know addicted. My boyfriend (Between 3 characters his brother 1 mine =]) he has like 17 80`s (owns two accounts) he finished lvling most.
To be honest that doesn`t look like he is that addicted, because most of my boyfriends friends play wow. and they have a lot of coke cans around their computer, or cups w/e and that place was spotless from

The time he put into getting his characters to that level was an investment and therefore valuable to him. To delete them is a serious breech of personal ownership, regardless of your feelings about him or his habits. To go into my house and destroy my artwork or the decorations I have spent my time earning is a crime but no more serious than what she did.
I have to say though, from a sort of Zen standpoint, we shouldn`t put so much stock in things so easy to lose. That goes for my own belongings as well.

He has a right to be what he is, doing whatever he does. If his girlfriend doesn`t agree she should in any case not revert to childish, selfish and cruel means.
I probably wouldn`t like the guy, and I don`t like the fact that he smokes and is addicted to that silly game, but I`m not going to blame it on him because he didn`t do anything wrong.
Maybe he should have played less games and played more with her, but she should probably start communicating.

Games are not worth getting angry over, but it`s the fact that someone you thought you could love and trust went behind your back and did something utterly childish to make a point. I`d be pissed too if someone deliberately destroyed anything of mine on purpose just to hurt me.... make me "hurt" the same way they "hurt" which is just plain selfish and unnecessary.

No Dog, we`re just pissing on his girlfriend because she is a whore that deleted his characters. I don`t care WHAT characters from whatever game, but it is something he worked for. If a girl wants attention she should drating say so. If he doesn`t give her any, it`s a good sign that she should leave. What the fck does she think this bullpoo is going to help? Most likely scenario is that he will break up with her for this, if he finds out it was her.

DogSoldier, are you a gamer? Do you understand how long it takes to achieve anything in these games?

I play WoW I know exactly how long it takes and I know exactly how long it took for me to have my 80 restored after I was hacked and my toon deleted. 2 days. For realz It sucked, sure but I didn`t go apeshiite because I couldn`t play for a couple days. Honestly I didn`t even care...I just...did something else ._.;

moogleluvr: A few things you as well as all the others need to get into your heads.

1: I don`t have a car so the metaphor is slightly off. (Though I believe I get a point from it)

2: Yes, I am a gamer and I`ve spent countless hours acomplishing this and that. But damn don`t I start all over again should something happen OR if I get what I want.

3: My MAIN point, which a rare few people tend to think about is this. People saying they hope he beats the crap out of her for doing that isn`t something I enjoy reading. Makes me wonder what kind of sick people they really are (all talk or not). He gets that angry from a couple of deleted characters, maybe even cause he feels betrayed and slams the monitor through the wall. Now people have killed for less, he doesn`t strike me as the "you deleted my characters, but it`s funny and I`m cool with it" kinda guy.

SO, to all you guys defending him (probably cause you`re gaming WoW yourself). Not everyon

Dog--I get angry pretttyy easily. I never harm people or animals but I`ve punched a fair share of computer monitors/walls/etc in my lifetime (I don`t have muscular arms though so I don`t really break anything). And he couldve been angry about the betrayal, not so much the characters deleted. Or frusterated that now his guild is going to have to pug a possibly bad player. Or that he will have to miss out on a week or two of progression until his characters get back.

May be feiku, may be. All though a person who`s not obsessed in any way with the game or maybe even play the game that much would get that angry. Sure I`ve been mad a few times my self getting killed by players or bugs ingame.

Assumptions, yea. Everyone here makes them, I`m just slightly against the ones of people hoping she got beaten blue and yellow as well as slapped across the room.

People need to wake up, he needs to wake up. Losing his virtual figures is nothing to losing a real person who possibly cares, maybe even loves him.

(Oh and I`m expecting a whole lot of "why she delete them then if she loves him" crap, so just skip it)

The fact that it IS only a game and that he can get his characters back IS a pretty big point. Gets really angry for really no good reason.

Not nice of her, but hardly life or death. However his reactions as well as the possible after effects of his rage could well be for the girl.

People need to grow up, sure. This guy a bit more than she does.

That been said, I`ll call this one a draw. Hope she got out and hope he woke up and smelled what he`s been shoveling.

i`m with GosuPaul on this.

playing WoW is a hobby. it holds the same meaning as any other hobby. building model trains, collecting stamps, the guy that had marble races from a little while back. they are all equally pointless hobbies to anyone but the collector. how would you feel if you spent months building the city for your train set, and your girlfriend came in with a sledge hammer and destroyed it all because you spent too much time on it?

he will probably be able to get his characters back if/when he talks to customer support. but that girlfriend definitely isn`t going to be around for long.

also, i totally see the logic in taking it out on the monitor. it was completely that things fault. (that was sarcasm)

If she truly cared about him, she`d give him an ultimatum.

Either quit, or moderate his playing time according to her demands, or she`d leave.

If he chose the latter, then fine, she can move and and do whatever she likes but to ruin somebody`s work like that is just immature.

The way I see it, it really is a life`s work. If somebody began to write a novel and had 400 pages of work done and somebody`s girlfriend lit that on fire or deleted the hard-drive because he spent so much time on it, would you guys be saying the same things?

`But but, books are GOOD for you! WoW is just a silly computer game!` Okay, so what if the novel he was writing was complete literary crap? Does the worth of the product make it okay to take someone`s time investment and flush it away?

Doesn`t really matter how much time you`ve spend playing a game, you don`t hit, kick, slap, bite, scratch or inflict any other kind of physical wounds or injuries on someone cause of a game.

Just by saying you would, you prove to everyone right now that you are yourself obesessed.

His reaction has nothing to do with how often he plays either. It`s the accumulated time he would have put into the game. He had fun, and he was proud of what he had. If you had been working on a novel, writing one chapter per week, you finally finish and right before you go to publish it, your girlfriend burns it because she feels you`ve spent too much time on it.

I completely agree that no game is worth the well being of another person. I also think that a guy never (except under EXTREME circumstances) has the right to hit a girl. Call me sexist if you want.

However, by deleting something that someone has put countless hours into just because its getting on your nerves shows how terrible of a person she is. If it was a guy who did than he would deserve to be beaten for days and days, I don`t care how lame you think wow is. Unfortunately she`s a she and i don`t feel comfortable saying she deserves a beat down.

I`ve actually been in a happy relationship for 4 years now, which incidentally is as long as I`ve been playing WoW.
She realizes that I have my fun with my friends on my game, and that doesn`t bother her as long as I still spend time with her. CLEARLY the girl in the video isn`t rational enough to distinguish "all the time" from 2-3 nights a week. (play time)
So any arguments from her perspective are invalid. And as for the well being of a person versus a game? If I`ve spent more than one entire year on something, and a girl destroys it because she`s jealous, or she doesn`t approve, isn`t that going against my own well being over a game? I`d say that beating her ass would be a just retaliation, because it isn`t about her ruining his game, it`s about her deleting more than an entire year from his life.

I REALLY hope so.
Watching poo like this makes me rage so hard. I remember seeing a video where a girl smashes her boyfriend`s ps3 because he was playing WHILE SHE WAS ALSEEP. What the drat does it matter, really?

Back on the subject of WoW, I have over 370 days played on my priest. That`s over an entire year of my life. I don`t think this girl understands that. That doesn`t mean I`ve had it for over a year, that`s how long I`ve actually been PLAYING the character. This guy had what, 4 80s? Probably a good 2 months played on each or so.

Sure, he was an AC fag, but still. Come on. All that time, entirely wasted because of a stupid bitch who doesn`t have the capacity to talk about her problems.

Personally, I would just dump him. In fact, I would not date someone who had a level 80 WoW character, much less multiple ones. That just shows how little he cares about actual life and how much he cares about pixels.
And this is from someone who likes gaming. WoW is a stupid game, it`s a total grindfest. I cannot imagine how dull you would have to be to spend enough time on it to get your character to level 80.

As a WoW playing female, this seems horribly intolerant. As simim23 says, "We really don`t know the whole story here, and perhaps his "obsession" was really only a raid night every once and a while while the girlfriend was asleep. " If that`s the case, then... what a bitch. If not... I think she possibly could have sorted that out better then to delete his characters.

You know, sit down and talk to him, for one.

This is comparable to getting someone to quit smoking by flushing their cigs down the drain.

Or pouring the vodka out, flushing the weed, the coke, etc.

Gaming`s just as addictive as anything else. If the guy was so obsessed with it, this might be his wake up call.

ON THE OTHER HAND:

We really don`t know the whole story here, and perhaps his "obsession" was really only a raid night every once and a while while the girlfriend was asleep.

Maybe she IS a bitch and wants him to faun over her all the damn time.

Since we don`t know the whole deal, we can`t make an assumption one way or another.

You have to keep in mind, this guy has spent possibly years leveling those characters and gearing them. He can`t get that time back. She just deleted possibly years of his life. i can understand his reaction, definatly. But i do believe that he should have reacted differently, instead of destroying hundreds of dollars of his own...

Ladies, if you are ever tempted to do what this girl did (which I have been) don`t do it. Just leave them. Hopefully by doing that they will realize that although a computer game is fun and entertaining it will never take the place of a real human relationship. If they don`t realize that then there is something seriously wrong with them and you`re better off. There. That`s my opinion.

Though I agree you shouldn`t spend all your time on games, especially if you have a girlfriend, this girl has crossed the line. You never delete someone`s saved game or characters, you discuss with them and ask them not to play on the game all the time. People have killed for less. I`m not suggesting it but I`d understand... lol

Y`know, if he reacted THAT poorly over a video game, can you imagine what would happen if something that -really- impacts his life went wrong?

If I were her, I`d leave. That`s a very childish, immature man right there.

Mind you - she shouldn`t have deleted them either. I do not in any way condone that. If she`s not happy, don`t try to change him, leave.

I think you missunderstand. I love that game... it`s great fun and challenging. I just don`t have time for it in my life anymore. So, yeah... I can defend him. As I said before, it`s his choice.. not hers. Her only legal choice was to stay with him or go away. She instead chose to destroy something he pays his own money for.

I don`t play anymore, but really that was not her business. If she wasn`t happy then she should have just left him. Instead, she deleted something he worked for and invaded his privacy. Bad on him for playing it all the time instead of spending some time for her, but that was his choice... HIS! Not hers. It was not her computer, not her game and he doesn`t belong to her. The only thing I see wrong here is not a WOW addiction, rather an obsessive girelfriend that doesn`t know boundaries and with a very low self esteem.

I wouldn`t have acted violently... I would have calmly escorted her out, put her belongings on the sidewalk and shut the door. (assuming she was at his house)

To all the people who thinks he overreacts: He had some nice chars there, high lvls and good gear, now that kind of stuff takes a LOOOOT of time, probably around 100-300 days INGAME played time, which means about 4 years of this.. so.. how would you feel if someone took away youve worked for non stop for a year.. i dont think you would be happy

Fo all those people who says hes an idiot for playing the game: He is doing something he likes, whats wrong with that? and dont come with the "hes not social" bullpoo, hes probably more social than you guys, internet is the new way to contact people, if you think its wrong then you can think yourself as one with religion, and with that i mean that your not "modern" enough or something like that, call it w/e you want..

and to the guy who said that this happened cuz hes alliance: Are you an idiot? (dont have more space xD)

Just another example of what playing Alliance gets you. Lol. Personally I got the WoW monkey off my back and I could`nt be happier about it. She did him a favor really, but still, not cool for her to do that. Also if he really wanted to all he would have to do is contact a GM and all of his characters would be reinstated, and more than likely, that bitch would be kicked out. That being said, a player who plays Horde would never have that happen because Horde players know when to quit, especially with douches like him playing Alliance. Yea,great reaction, now you gotta by a new monitor *clap clap* Good job noob.

As you yourself said, with moderation, cominating social life with gaming won`t be a problem. something this guy clearly didn`t have.

And before you say anything else, yes I have done something similar to my girl when things have gone a tad out of hand. But it`s a two way street so she`s done the same to me. We get to enjoy our "sabotage missions" against each other and laugh about it over dinner/movie with snacks and wine :)

Just because you can`t physically hold all of what he accumulated doesn`t mean it isn`t of worth, or truly in existence. That`s what this electronic age is all about. He put a lot of drating time and effort into it, and it`s something he enjoys doing. What if she complained her artist boyfriend who just paints all the time, so she burned all of the beautiful works of art just because she couldn`t appreciate them herself? Who`s the one that`s really overreacting? I`d enjoy this video much more if it resulted in him strangling her, and I don`t even play WoW.

Well where to start tbh. Wow isn`t a game like any other, it`s more of an interactive social network than a game to be very honest. Alot of the people I play with are my mates that have moved around the country but we still get together and have a laugh 3 nights a week.

@Dogsoldier

if you can`t have a social life and game then you have no hope to ver very honest. It`s like anything, if you spend too much time doing it then youll lose the people you care about. Moderation is the key. WoW is fun but some people take it too far, saying you like this girl because she pissed her BF off and basically shat over his effort is a little cold. What would happen if your missus spent a good 6 months getting into a hobby, like woodwork, then you smashed the poo out of her creations because she spent too much time making them? same thing

video games are fine, but like anything else, in relatively small doses. too many people get waaay too wrapped up in this stupid game - i`ve seen people`s lives go turn to poo because of it. the douche deserves it for wasting so much of his time when he actually has (had) a girlfriend.

but what if you couldn`t?

I can almost understand that girl though,

I feel her pain. When your significant other turns you down for sex repeatedly because they are too busy raiding dungeons everyday, they have a problem and that is a valid enough reason to want to sabotage their characters. Though, I really don`t have the balls she`s sporting because my husband`s reaction would be similar and I paid for our computer. :/

Yes, it`s very easy to get back characters because people do this poo all the time to ex-bfs/gfs, but sometimes it takes weeks before everything is fully recovered and there`s a strong possibility that he wasn`t aware how easy it is to get back accounts. I had a friend who had been playing for 2 years who had NO idea how easy it was to regain characters, so it is possible. Also, he may be more angry about the immature betrayal rather then deletion of this characters.

This girls a jerk. If it bothers you so much, play with him, or leave him. Done n` done. Me and my bf played the game with eachother occasionally. Not all the time, but when the only other option was to sit and watch TV, we preferred the game. It was fun and kinda a good bonding experience.

There are many ways to get your characters back.
Open GM ticket >> Tell them someone deleted it out of spite >> Have them retrieve the character, since it`s still in their database for a while >> Wait a few minutes >> Done.
