you`ve obviously never been to a war zone, have you.

And anyway, don`t we have nuclear missiles that can be set off at the push of a button now, anyway?

Well, we`d have peace until we make robots. Then, the human race would be wiped out in a matter of /weeks/. We`d all be too fat to stop them.

no it is not the answer to world peace because we have A, B, & C warfare... a fatass can press a button and with that said war would then be fought over major pie exports and countries with the most mc donalds stock holders so saying i have fast food then becomes a global threat oh noes!!

Gerry, when did I once say anything remotely similar to "If we get rid of all protection there will be no violence"? Please show me what you believe sounds like that, and I`ll try to tell you what you`re misinterpreting.

Siyanor, that kind of wishful thinking is just the kind of soft-logic that has brought the U.S. to the sad place we are in.

to paraphrase your wish for a lack of military ... "If we get rid of all protection there will be no violence"

That`s like saying if you get rid of condoms there will be no std`s.

"I believe in fairies! I believe in fairies!"

...And I think you are an idiot, dance, since you seem to be randomly assuming I think the military can magically be abolished. Never have I said it can. I said it should be. I am quite aware that the abolition of military is unrealistic, but that does NOT mean we should SUPPORT the military.

Also, send our police to protect people overseas? What the hell? If you think I suggested that, you clearly failed at comprehending anything I typed.

So, your fiance takes pride in what he does. What exactly is it that he does? And why is it absolutely necessary that he be in the military to perform this task? If it`s something that people not in the armed forces can do, clearly it`s nothing to be proud of, and if only people in the armed forces can do it, I don`t see what value it has to society.

Perhaps you should grow up, and learn that how things are and how things can be are not always how things should be. That should have been the first thing you learned gr

OK, Dance, that last part was hysterical laughter.

Step away from the military discussion and find a nice, peaceful slice of German chocolate with coconut frosting.

There is only one thing constant in our world`s history, only one, and that is war.

Peace is a fantastic goal, but world peace is an unrealistic goal which ignores basic human nature. As long as someone has something that another does not have, or thinks differently from someone else, there will be war.

We will always need a military, see the concept of "Mutually Assured Destruction".

Siyanor, just to put it simply, i think you`re an idiot. Obviously you have never met someone in the military and listened to what they have to say about the pride most of them take in what they do. There will always be conflict with different countries, and because of that there will always need to be a military. I`d love for there to be peace since it would bring my fiance home. But it`s not going to happen anytime soon. Get over yourself, get educated, and grow up. Advanced defense technologies are an on-going nature of human societies.
And how about to protect people, like from pirates. Should we send our police overseas to protect people? That sounds a lot like a military actually...
I`m a very liberal person, but i`m not so blind as to think that no military will ever be needed. I love our men and women in uniform and appreciate everything they do for us. HOOAH! ahaha

Not cool to be hating on our armed forces, its not completely their choice to be sent to wherever our government decides they need to be.

dance, the lack of logic in YOUR thought process is utterly astounding.

Some lunatic bombing the US without government sanction is committing a crime. Crimes are handled by THE POLICE.

Helping people in other countries DOES NOT REQUIRE A MILITARY. Those people can just as easily rebuild schools, or perform any other act of generosity, in other countries without being members of the armed forces.

In the case of overthrowing a tyrant: I do not personally believe it should be within the rights of one country to eliminate a government in another country, no matter what the circumstances.

so if your house got bombed from someone from another country (not a military person from another country, just some lunatic who didn`t like the US) then that`d be cool? no worries? There`d be no need to be protected by the military? Are you sure you didn`t lie about your age? You`re not some 12 year old kid just spatting off something you heard and thought was cool? cuz that`s kind of what you sound like. Ever met someone in the military? Hear things that they have seen? What about military personal who help people in other countries? Who rebuild schools for girls in Iraq? No need for that. Let others suffer under their ruler that they have no control over. No big deal. As long as the US is ok, nobody else matters. Good thought process

Ah,.. yeah you worded that pretty miserably..

The military isn`t as evil as everyone makes it out to be. Did it for 6 years and got out. Helped me mature a good bit from the person I was out of HS..

mastr, I said that I DO want to be protected by the police INSTEAD OF the military. I realize the way I worded it was a bit vague.

Must be a great life for siyanor to have never had to fight for anything.

So if you were to be mugged.. you wouldn`t report it, Because you don`t want to be protected by the police. We wouldn`t have to worry about you fighting back either, because violence is wrong.

Right?

Awesome, Post your address for everyone then.

dance4life, just because it`s currently "a part of civilization" doesn`t mean it SHOULD be a part of civilization.

And as I already said, I would rather not be protected if my protection is killing people in other countries.

yes, Siyanor, I hope you are the only one. I know the ring on my finger shows that I very much love the military, considering the one who put it there is serving. And I couldn`t be prouder of him. Grow up. Militaries have basically always been a part of civilization and have been protecting even idiots like you for a loooong time.

the only way it`s considered world peace is because we wouldn`t be killing each other, we`d be killing ourselves.

Gerry, I would much rather die than be protected by the military. Or, be protected by the police... since, you know, that`s their job...

Ike, you do realize that if there is no military, people cannot militarily take control? I never once said we should ONLY abolish military in the US. And no, I do not watch the Simpsons; also, the story of the monkey paw is centuries older than the Simpsons, and involves a single person who was wished alive and revived as a mindless zombie.

have you not watched simpson`s treehouse of horror II, with the monkey paw? Lisa wishes for world peace, they destory all weapons, Kang and Kodos come down and conquer earth with like a slingshot...

but instead of kang and kodos it`d be kim jong il or castro, someone is always going to militarily take control of somewhere, do you not realize human nature is greed and power...

World peace would be a wonderful thing, however it is impossible at this point in time. There are too many different peoples with too many different ideologies, with too many conflicts of interest. Unfortunately, world peace is a fool`s dream...

The Army should just send all the overweight recruits to the Navy, since all that extra fat would make the new recruits float better.

Now I know I sound disrespectful here, but perhaps a fixed percentage fat people(chosen by draft) should be in the military. First off, the military will not let them indulge in their bad habits, and this will teach them discipline. If boot camp training time is lengthened by a little they will be able to lose the weight and gain considerable muscle mass, because when fat people exercise they have to move their fat. Now, use these individuals as both recruiters and voluntary public speakers when not in wartime, and we would have the solution to the obesity problem. They would tell the truth about how anybody can lose weight and grow physically fit(excepting those who have true glandular problems, but those are a very small percentage.) Also, a CORRECT way to lose weight would be publicized and companies that fool and feed off the lazy would die out. Somehow we`ve got to prove that Obesity is a mental illness, not a physical one. This could work. Its better than shooting them.

@Siyanor: i`m not a fascist, I just think that if you have a group of people who want to enlist and the only thing that`s holding them back is their physical size, why not set up a temporary exercise regiment, get them in shape, then put them i proper brigades.

It`s a waste, that`s all.
