it would have been hilarious if the cops rushed and everyone freaked out and then the cops stopped and said "nah, just kiddin`, but MAN, did you see your face!?"

So you get to suggest my democratic country is an oppresive police state after the most tense and biggest protests Canada has ever experienced led to some violence? Nobody is happy about what happened, what the police or some of the protesters did. I resent having my country compared to a "big brother state".

"I love a good riot police charge , especially when they are charging the privileged , bored and hypocritical."

You really have no idea what`s going on in Canada, do you?

@Max Normal

Agreed. Blame cannot be placed on ANY country, instead blame should be placed on the corporate entities involved. Anyone that blames Britain or America (or any other nation, for that matter) are idiots. It is true that government agencies failed in many respects but the people responsible for assuming blame are the businesses that created, built, engineered, operated, owned and profited from the well.

"No ones breaking the law. You should be allowed to be outside, it`s not a crime or a warzone unless police make it one. "

Give me a break... Have you ever been to one of these clusterf u c ks? The original group starts out on their protest, all fine and dandy. As they move along, some chodes walking down the street say `hey this looks like it could be interesting` and join in. Then inevitably the agitators join the crowd. There are always people in theses masses that have no interest in a protest and just want to cause mayhem, and the police are fully aware that these groups inevitably need to be `controlled`.

Protesting is not illegal, provided you have your permit and are within the assigned protest area. When you march your arse out of that area, and infringe on the publics freedom of movement (yes others have rights too and it`s not your right to mess them up, thats in our charter) you are breaking the law.

@Chillywack and Siyanor.

BP is not a British company. It was founded in Britain many years ago, it is now multinational. BP changed it`s name from British Petroleum to BP 15 years ago. As many board members are American as British, the rest are multinational. The Rig in the Gulf was built in Korea and regulated by America. The rig is owned and operated by an American oil firm originally based in Birmingham Alabama, it then acquired a Norwegian firm called Transocean. The spill id nothing to do with the British, our regulation and engineering ensures that nothing like this ever happens in the North sea or the Irish sea where the are dozens of rigs, it is certainly nothing whatsoever to do with the Canadians. Perhaps the US should take some reponsibilty for some of the damage they do to the World sometimes? After all, they do a lot more than the rest of us.

Depends what you mean by Nazi and what you mean by good, Gerry.

If you mean Nazi party and good according to Nazis, yes. If you mean Nazi army and good according to Nazis, yes. If you mean Nazi party and good according to the West, no. If you mean Nazi army and good according to the West, yes.

In other words, there were people (tons of them, actually) in the Nazi army that did not belong to the Nazi party.

ugh i hate these fags (not gays... progressives)

These videos are so conveniently edited to spread their police-state nonsense. They leave out the parts where the cops told them to move, gave them warnings, etc...

If you`re blatantly breaking the law while defying police orders... You asked for it.

I seriously think that these videos were cut badly. Cause while I was watching it live on the news, the police clearly gave warnings to people, multiple times, and no one moved. So they`d charge forward to push people forward, because they have orders to, and people would move as much as little as possible whilst screaming the entire time, then when the police moved back into line they`d go sit right in front of them again! Like, it was obvious what the police were trying to get people to do. Also, there were designated protest spots for these people to protest if they wanted to. Ugh.

"We are peaceful" ... Yeah sure, What about the rioting, The fires, The looting, The vandalism ?

This is what is wrong with progressive protesters, They conveniently edit out all their buddies violent actions and only show the police`s actions. They have no integrity and are intellectually dishonest.

Doesn`t matter. They`re asking you to move.
"Where do you want us to go?"
They`re telling you to move back. Simple as that. So go back, and get away.

Really, doesn`t matter if you`re violently or peacefully defying the law, bottom line is, you are trying to defy the law.

Well, here`s what happened.

Saturday, protesters break store windows, vandalize public property and torch police cars. The police stand by and watch.

Sunday, the police figure they`ve had enough of that nonsense and start rounding the anarchists up.

Don`t get me wrong, us Canadians are still nice; which is why we gave those jokers a full day of nothing but warnings.

There`s probably a little bit of these police officers` persona, deep down, that gets satisfied when they`re using violence against unarmed civillians. A sort of "high on hate" reaction when feeling the ground tremble at their rabid charge, and the screams of defenseless human beings running from this faceless horde of automated assh*les. It`s obvious these protesters aren`t even doing anything. Whoever coordinates these commands should be seperated from his c*ck. These people should be annulled of their authority completely.

Now that Godwin`s law has been realized, I am just waiting for the Reichstag fire event to take place next in Canada.

Imposing draconian laws to seize and search anyone are against our rights. The last time I looked we had the right to protest. There are the few that cause trouble, ie. the black bloc but are the police allowed to arrest a neighbourhood to search for a villain? There is also talk of police infiltrators using the black bloc for their own uses, ie. to justify the then 1.2 billion dollars spent on "security." The police were too busy showing the media what these "protesters" were doing rather than to stop the actions from taking place. This whole event is a black eye for democracy in Canada and should not be taken lightly.

I didn`t know liberals were the ones complaining. It could be, I honestly don`t pay much attention to party platforms, but I`m very liberal and I definitely want a police state. I don`t want the police to be corrupt, but who does?

Male 1,122
The black block caused hyper vigilance by the police. This was after protesters demonstrated violent behavior which means that cops can and should treat the protesters as violent combatants because they waived their right to peaceful protest. Plus saying I`m peaceful after part of your protest group has become violent means nothing. The cops only goal at this point is dispersal so they can control and limit the violent behavior.

Male 1,299
The problem that I see is we have too many people protesting too many different things and mixing. At that point it becomes difficult to discern whom is protesting what and in what way are they protesting. I think things could have been handled better on both sides. Having spent a good deal of time in Canada I respect their ability to be rational and while this is a gross misstep I feel assured that unlike if this happened on American soil (*cough* Seattle *cough*) Canada will learn from this and strengthen their abilities to deal with matters of a similar nature more appropriately and thoroughly in the future.

I live in toronto, and this was the craziest that I have ever seen the city. One of the things that you may not know about is the existence of the "black block" a group of people who don`t care about any cause and just want to make mayhem. They blend into a group of peaceful protesters and then don masks, assault the police, smash windows and once set a police car on fire. Welcome to Canada.

All these so called liberals complaining about a police state wah wah wah, but as soon as someone busts into their car and steals their precious ipod, they scream bloody murder and demand for more cops to patrol their neighborhood.
The protesters went to G20 to cause trouble, and oh look, they found it.

"The police will actually plant provocateurs in the crowd to bust a window or throw fire bombs and use that as a primer to mod, beat, and arrest the others."

In Chicago... maybe in the South... Anywhere else? I`d need a lot of proof to believe that.

Male 180
Sickening enough, but even more sickening is how some on this board so love the police state and actually WANT their fellow citizens assaulted by the state. Just remember, even the good Nazis ended up in camps on flimsy or fabricated pretexts.

Charging and assaulting a group of peaceful and obviously defenseless people just because one person somewhere acted a fool and broke a law is passive-aggressive taken to extreme. But this is how they work. The police will actually plant provocateurs in the crowd to bust a window or throw fire bombs and use that as a primer to mod, beat, and arrest the others.

Canada is billed billions of dollars to protect this confab of globalists. There is no reason for this group of people to meet. They do not belong to an elected government, yet they meet at people`s expense to plot global policy which affects our rights.

Get a backbone, stand up for the rights of the individual.

I went to this, being from Hamilton, but I didn`t loot or attack anyone and therefore didn`t get attacked myself... I did get into a verbal argument with a cop who didn`t like what I was saying and...kinda... chased me away with a baton.. still didn`t get hurt though, and that`s the most important part

I live in Toronto and I must say this was a complete waste of money and resources. 1.2 billion dollars of security. Yes. BILLION. No ones heard of the phone or email i`m guessing. They literally shut everything down and the police recommended people do not even walk the streets. If someone lived in an apartment nearby to not even go out on the fkn balcony. Why? Because they had snipers posted up all around.

Part of me thinks the police let a certain amount of chaos to go on only to justify the outrages price for protection.

All these types claim to just be peaceful - oh why are they dispursing us? We`re just here to protest, um, something...until the rioting and vandalism begins, which it DID."

in most cases when the police start getting pushy it`s not because they are just sitting there, it`s because some people in the group started going to far. such as what i said before with the paintballs. but then the entire group gets pushed because some retarded ruined it for the peaceful people.

also, I don`t know about the police in Toronto but the police where I`m from ( Atlantic provinces) are nothing like that. there was a protest around here before and the police only got even marginally close to that after some retards started shooting them with paintballs

The G20 is just an excuse for all the little anarchists to come out and play. There is no message, no higher motive that they have. All they want to do is show up and yell "drat the police."

Just because they congregate in a public location doesn`t mean they have free reign to do whatever they want there. You need a permit and actually have a right to be there.
