"That sucks, because now there`s little to no incentive for the provider to be efficient"

actually there is a standard, y`know.... they can`t just half-ass it...`s kinda the law. In the past 4 years I`ve had to go to the hospital6 times for various reasons. 2nd year uni I sliced my hand open and didn`t have to deal/worry about filling out anything or waiting x number of hours... just went and got it stitched up...then 2 months later got 2nd degree burns on the same hand and was in and out in under an hour... even last summer when I got my tonsils out I got referred and in the OR in a week

That sucks, because now there`s little to no incentive for the provider to be efficient. Like I said before, nothing is free. In order for the government to give you something, they first have to take something from someone else. How much did your society really pay? (the actual cost is irrelevant) What incentive do you have to look for the cheapest price?

With the exception of charity, people not paying out of pocket are cribbing society. It`s a shame liberals are unable to comprehend economics.

Why do people keep saying Canada has socialized healthcare? We don`t, we`re not communists, lol. It`s called universal healthcare. Plus there are private hospitals if you want to pay for service but doctors, hospitals, etc are free to everyone at anytime and you can always choose/switch family doctors whenever you want.

I found the pic kinda boring, that`s dry Canadian humour for ya!

I could get cancer repeatedly for the rest of my life, or I could have an organ transplant, or maybe loose a limb or two in an accident. Or maybe all three. I wouldn`t loose my house to pay for it. I wouldn`t have any health insurance premiums to go up. The poor are entitled to the same care as the rich.
America is the only first world country with such a backwards health system. You must be so proud.

I`m not Canadian.

If that’s true then how are you going to stop people from taking more than they give without creating shortages? As for the providers, what incentives are there, that are better than “survival of the fittest”, when you have little to no competition to be efficient?

This is where there`s been a lot of confusion. You can write a song and mass distribute it. But if I take your song, and distribute it without your consent, you could sue.

I gotta read up on the new regulations that was tabled 2 weeks ago on all this...our "fearless" leaders updated the copyright laws and not sure if the term "File sharing" has been updated.

@n0x717

"Free" is the incorrect term. Our healthcare is payed for in part by our tax dollars, hence "Social healthcare" Nothing is free.

Our lotteries are NOT taxed. What you win, you keep 100%. You get taxed on the capital gains from the INTEREST you earn when you bank or invest it.

We are Canadians who live on the North American CONTINENT. We`re NOT American. That misconception will get you seriously mawled on July 1st.

Don`t have a "collective weight problem"? Are you INSANE? Canada is just as bad on this problem as any other country on this planet. Go read the latest on the Statistics Canada site and Ministry of Health.

I can`t speak for the weed, but downloading commercial media without PAYING and without concent is still illegal in any province.

As for the hockey and beer, well I didn`t see a CANADIAN TEAM win the Stanley Cup. Beer is beer, to each their own.

@n0x717-

Downloading music without paying is decriminalized in Canada? That`s absolutely retarded. People make their living making music, not to mention all the other people in related fields that depend on those sales.

And when someone says "American" they mean a citizen of the United States of America. See how the word `America` is in that title?
If they meant someone in North America, the continent, they would say North American.
And if they meant someone of North, South, or Central America, they would say "of the Americas", Or maybe the archaic "New World".

You seem alright at English, so I`m puzzled as to why you`re having trouble understanding this.

there is no way socialized healthcare is a bad thing. there are private hospitals in canada where you can pay for quicker procedures, otherwise everything is free. canada is less dense, has less crime per capita. on the west coast has almost no french canadians. hockey is the greatest sport in my opinion(go nucks), and don`t say american hockey teams are better because most of them are over 50% canadian players or learned how to play here.and our national sport is lacrosse, not hockey. vancouver was voted 2nd most livable city behind only venice italy. that 50 million lottery is taxed alot less than it would have been in the states. the term american encompasses canada and ever other country in the americas as well, not just the united states OF america. our beer is much better. we don`t have a collective weight problem. oh yes, and weed and downloading music is decriminalized.

It`s kind of ironic. Liberals bitch about greedy monopolies and at the same time advocate the state, which itself is a monopoly.

With a regular monopoly, we have the option of doing business with them, so they can`t overcharge that much. The state on the other hand, has a monopoly on currency, so basically it can just take as much money as it wants from the people by just printing it.

In anarchy, bad business die out and good ones grow. The government is a business that can`t die because of its belief. Do you guys think the government is a good business if its debt is TRILLIONS of "dollars"? I think any other business would have gone out of business before the debt went that high.

If you`re talking about a free market, it has, and it`s happening right now (but, not fully). People buy a good service or product at a good price and those business do better and others that overcharge or are ineffective at providing a product or service, die out.

The main reason why some business in America make much more money than they normally would is because of barriers to entry. A barrier to entry is law that forces business to have a certain standard with their products or services. This was suppose to help people, but what it really did was limit competition, which in turn created monopolies and cartels that could cater to the regulators, rather than the customer. Obviously I don`t have any proof. This is just the logical conclusion that I reached to.

It`s usually the liberals that have a hard time understanding economics. Liberals, for the most part, believe that the state can do a better job.

Anyone who is able and wants to would provide healthcare will provide it. People would "regulate" the market by doing business with those who provide a good product or service at a good price. Business that overcharge will go out of business and die out. It`s kind of like natural selection, except it`s called consumer selection.

WOAH! I have a serious issue about ANY report that compares a Canadian province such as Manitoba (Population: 1.2 million) and the rest of the USA: 307+ million.

That being said, I do agree with you and add that under certain cases, our socialist Health Care system does have advantages over the private medical system as found in the US.

My wife had a heart attack 4 years ago at the age of 32. The 1 week she spent in the Cardiac Care Unit would have cost us easily $100K. My tax dollars help save her life.

That`s ALL that matters.

It`s not about you and it`s not about greed, some people would not like to do business with a coercive monopoly(universal healthcare provider). People like me just realize that products and services would be produced more cost-effectively in a free market. This would greatly help society, unlike universal healthcare.

When you say something like that, what you`re really saying is that government steals resources, and throws resources. The problem is the incentive to be efficient.

Saying GTFO is the "love it leave it" "argument". It`s not actually an argument because it doesn`t address the content of what is being said. Let me put it another context so you can understand. Here in fakeland, we rape people and it`s legal, don`t like it? Then GTFO!

Sure if you want COSMETIC surgeries like botox, laser eye...stuff that is purely cosmetic.

Even our walk-in medical clinics are limited in the type of services they can give. It`s sad really.

Average wait time in the ER: 11 hours

Breast Cancer: 35 days
Angioplasty: 17 days
MRI Scan: 119 days
CT Scan: 45 Days

Sources: www.health.gov.on.ca - wait times.

Why do Americans hate Canada so much anyways? Its not like we did anything horrible or hurtful to them. If you count the Olympics, that`s bull. One of the reasons why we were happy we won is because if the US had won, they would have gone on rubbing it in our faces saying "They beat us at our own game." Which I would consider a sore winner. On top of that, another good reason why Canada is better is because everybody doesn`t HATE Canada.

LOL don`t you just love the Internet... Going off on a tear about what Country is better? It`s clearly about preference... I like Canada so I love here, I might not like it so much once HST hits and that could possibly send me on a mission to go find somewhere to live in America... I don`t know yet... and Seriously, the differences between Canadians and Americans are so subtle that it`s not even noticeable really. We`re North America we should be uniting against the damn Europeans.... especially now that soccer is on, GET THE RIOT SHEILDS

I was trying to avoid this BISP but here it goes. Yes Alberta has a lot of jobs. Most of those jobs are due to the oil sands. No those jobs do not benefit Canada. Do you really want to get into the whole "free trade" and "butt buddy" argument between Alberta and the United states?

Again if you knew anything about Canadian history you would know that there were not "baddies". They were dragged their kicking and screaming begging to stay.

If you knew anything about Canadian history you would know that the only reason we have people living in the west is because they did not fit well in normal society. Prisoners, labourers and all around scoundrels is what you`ll find there.

Your social status in Canada was based on how close you were to either Ottawa or England.

Last time I checked, living in Alberta did not make me a yank and forget how to spell the way I was taught in school. OH and I know for a fact I do not have a "yank" accent. And no, Alberta does not hate the rest of Canada, nor would we ever want to join the USA. I think we`d rather become our own little separate country before ever joining the states.

As Far as 1/2 the country being french that is just not true , this country is made up of people who speak many languages, The government is a bilingual one ( French and English only ) and as such you can conduct any federal gov. issues in your language of choice ( as long as it`s french or english )
And furthermore our national hockey team RULES the planet !!!!
