I love coffee...sometimes drinking coffee is the only thing that gets me going in the morning. I go through withdrawal if I don`t drink coffee in two days (usually get a massive headache).

I actually enjoyed this infographic. Thank you for posting.

It also depletes or blocks vitamins like C and promotes fungal infections, causing regular coffee drinkers to be more susceptible to illness like colds and flus than non-drinkers.

I`ve had caffeine withdrawal quite a few times. I didn`t realise the cause the first few times. Coffee and tea are on tap at work and I used to drink a lot of both. When I had a couple of days off work, I drank far less of them. When I started drinking squash at home instead of stuff like coke, I started getting caffeine withdrawal almost every week.

KMeTG, LOLs. glucose is needed to live. you`d die with out it. Honestly, you should have learned this in like 9th grade.

Nice info-graphic on the most abused drug in the US (maybe world?). But of coarse since it can be taxed, it will NEVER be illegal. No one ever OD-ed from weed, nor does it give a physical and chemical addiction......

before an anti-weed flame war starts, go by scientific research rather than "I heard from someone"

That`s an excellent plan! Unless, of course, you would like to live.

"100 cups of coffee in 4 hours" makes me think of Fry when he bought 100cups of coffee with his stimulus check

Volsunga: That`s simply not true. Pure caffeine is bitter as hell, so bitter it`s gag-inducing in some people. From the first sentence in the Wikipedia article:
"Caffeine is a bitter, white crystalline xanthine alkaloid"
Cancer caused by aspartame may be a myth, but it does cause major headaches in many people (including myself), and for those with a condition that causes seizures, it can trigger a seizure. So while aspartame isn`t "horrible", to some people it may be detrimental. Just depends on the person.

"Delicious Chemical"
Caffeine has no taste or smell. decaffeinated products taste slightly different to some people because the process of decaffeinization takes other things out besides caffeine and leaves some other stuff in.

@boredfjord Yay! Since the National Cancer society as well as the FDA have all reported GLARING inconsistencies in the studies that say Aspartame causes cancer is lab rats, and both agree that there is no evidence to support the myth, I really hate when people go on about how aspartame is horrible -.-;

Calderis, you don`t know what you`re talking about. Huge metastudies on the safety of aspartame have been conducted, and it has never been proven to cause cancer in humans. If you have found a peer-reviewed study that proved that aspartame has cancer-causing effects, why don`t you post it?

Nido, Aspartame has been recognized as a known cancer causing agent, so nasty yes.

To show you the value the FDA places on human life in comparison to profit, Aspartame has recently been okayed with the name "Aminosweet" and is being marketed as a "natural" alternative to sugar.

Watch out for things that say "Sugar Free" they substitute something called Aspartame which can be really nasty.

I studied caffeine for 2 years.. this is pretty much spot on.

It does increase reaction times in clinical trials also. Which is interesting. In my study we noted a dual crossover effect via the corpus callosum - as mood increased on a high dose of caffeine reaction times increased also.

On an interesting side note: The average caffeine consumer intakes around 280mg as suggested in this inforgram, but the APA says that intake of more than 220mg per day is a mental disorder.

decaffeinated products still have caffeine in them D: does anybody know what the maximum percentage a decaffeinated product in the UK can have? Not really expecting anyone to know I guess . . .
I don`t like that the Olympic Committee bans drugs and steroids from athletes, I say let them drug themselves up. I want to see huge hulking athletes able to jump a football field. I watch sports to be entertained, not to watch wimps run in a circle.
You`d see a lot of death. Performance-enhancing drugs are not safe, unsurprisingly. If they weren`t banned, it would be necessary to use them to the max in order to be competitive. The winner would be whoever hadn`t died yet. How very entertaining.

Hmm...less than 2.5% caffeine is caffeine free?

No.

Caffeine is quite toxic. LD50 for rats is 75mg/kg. It`s estimated that the LD50 for humans is 70-100% of the LD50 for rats. So you`re looking at ~3-5g as a lethal dose.

If something was 2.5% caffeine, 200g of it would kill most people. That`s less than a mug of coffee.

Forget Redbull and Monster, those are kiddie drinks. Cocaine is the poo...280 mg. of caffeine compared to a measly 80mg. (redbull)...

Somehow I doubt that only 3% comes from Food and Other, since soda would have to be contained in that. Pepsi and Coke sort of drinks are pretty darn popular. I don`t doubt that coffee is number 1 and I would believe it if tea was number 2 still.
