Yeah, it"s never good when the airline you"re flying with uses quotes around the important words of their slogan.

Ive flown JAL many times and always found it `safe` and `comfortable`

It`s the missing words you have to worry about. "Your aircraft maintenance manager in charge... of the coke and whiskey"

I`d be ok with "comfortable" but "safe"? This worries me...

This reminds of how BP`s oil wells are "safe" and "lead-free".

They sure do know how to "stirrup" consumer "confidence".

>>Maybe it`s just since I`ve moved to Chicago... didn`t notice them in OR suburbia.

Look on the northwest side, signs painted right on the "glass" - especially beauty salons and greasy spoons. You will "see" so many annoying mis-used quotes around "words" that it will make you want to up-chuck.

"Well, at least the "pilot" is "experienced". "

And the "plane" is "new model"

Has anyone else noticed a surge of people misusing quotation marks? Like using them to emphasize things? I think most of what I`m seeing is by stupid young people, not bad translators.

While this sign could be unsettling, I think they`ve finally caught on to the translation errors usually seen when non-germanic languages are translated to english. The words safe and comfortable are most likely put in quotation marks because the Japanese words differ from the english meaning. I like to think the translation should read: "Enjoy your dangerous flight with our drug influenced pilots"
