Haha I am Catholic and I enjoyed every bit of that. The video was hilarious lol. I agree there are many contradictions in the Bible, but us Roman Catholics aren`t supposed to take the Bible literally. So no matter how many contradictions, the underlying message is the same. Anyway, arguing religion is pointless, but that video was f*ckin hilarious.

In all fairness many primary sources of ancient times have similar contradictions-especially when it comes to numbers, many numbers are used to represent a lot and vary a great deal depending on the teller. Most of the scriptures of the old testament were gathered from oral tradition first and written down by many others thus it was influenced greatly by the writers who all, including the new testament writers, wrote down versions of the same story. Many were thrown out of the new testament to try for consistency during the council of Nicene. Some statements if you think about ring truth together and are simply expressed poetically if you will or consistent with one another such as loving the lord/ having faith is number 1 and loving others (including thy enemy) is number 1 is simply equated by another saying to love god is to love others. However, not all contradictions can be simply consoled as such and are blatant logical contradictions. I.e. at least part of the Bible is false.

    First example:
Jeremiah 17:4. Hell will exist forever.
Micah 7:18. God`s anger is is not permanent.

Whilst possibly bringing up the question of why keep hell around after a set period beyond a doomsday event, not a contradiction.

Read the lines, come back, post the noun.
    Hell / God`s Anger.
Then consider that maybe they are discussing different things.

Also, FIRST! (to actually go and look at the verses in question. I remember a fair few people arguing last time about how theists don`t like evidence. This would be example of evidence. Just saying).

look up each of the verses, they put them in the video for people like you who would say "wrong"

bigmordecai (love the name mordecai btw) is spot on though, greek and roman mythology is the same way, not to mention lots of exageration in both the mythologies and in lots of religious texts (not just christian/hebrew/islamic).

So after the world "ends" hell will still exist, but it will be empty.

Well if you think about it, there are many Christians who KNOW that they will go to heaven. All atheists, however, think that they will not. Therefore the Christians can lead a happier life? Meybe, although tbh that point was a bit of waffle.

I know many people who, in one instant, fully became aware of the presence of god, and they say they became complete. How can you explain that?

So you pick one of the 50 listed in the video, find that it can be worded to not contradict, and use the fact that you did it to put yourself on a higher pedestal than people who don`t agree with you?

The problem with this is everyone who already knows that this is true will go "yeah exactly" and all Christian mentalists will deny it blindly or come up with excuses of some sort about how it`s either meant to be like that, it isn`t like that or that the contradictions aren`t really important in the bigger picture, which happens to be a big picture of a giant turd.

    "How can you explain that?"

how can you explain love? you can`t explain everything, let people have their religion, every civilization has had a religion, egyptians worshiped animal headed humans, romans and greeks had gods that "controlled" things before science could explain it, christianity believes in jesus. though christianity is the first to have a sacred place for good to go where as romans, greeks, egyptians, and even current asian religions, (buddhism, hinduism,) believe in one place for everyone be it hell, hades, or circle of life.

"there are many Christians who KNOW that they will go to heaven."

nobody "knows" they are going to heaven, not until after you die and are IN heaven will you know that, nobody can prove heaven even exists. "knowing" you`re going to heaven is a sort of vanity (a deadly sin which will keep you from going to heaven).

@Baalthazaq, read mordecai`s response, who`s to say "hell" and "god`s anger" aren`t also exactly the same and just worded differently to avoid such contradictions. much like if someone were to write a book and say "sleep" when they really mean "drat", if it was to recollected, someone else might rewrite that word to "drat". you have to remember, the bible has been rewritten, retranslated, and based on `folklore`/word of mouth stories, `contradictions` are expected to happen. get the story of your ancestors from your mom`s parent and then your mom; they`re going to have parts that contradict or simply don`t match up. remember, your parents "walked 50 miles, uphill both ways, in the snow to school every morning"...

Wrong has many meanings in todays English language, not all having to do with incorrect. Learn them all before being a little bitch.

All atheists, however, think that they will not. Therefore the Christians can lead a happier life?

Actually, since atheists don`t believe in an after-life, they tend to live out what time they have in happier ways, rather than grinding their noses into some holy book or wasting time to beg forgiveness just for living like humans do...

because the bible has been rewritten and edited so many times it is impossible to know what it originally said. so it is just ridiculous for anybody to put all their faith into that book. its great to have faith, but to believe every word of the bible is just dumb. I personally believe there is something greater than us that put us here. whether that be "God" or a higher race of beings from another world (aliens) doesnt matter. but to put all of your faith into one religion closes your mind to reality.
my biggest problem with this is because there are so many people do put 100% of themselves into their religion, they keep themselves closed to the world around them. why cant we all just

I`m going to avoid giving opinion on religion, for it ends with the same debate. God or no God. Neither of which can be proven. As for this book, its most recent edition is a fair read and it teaches, for the most part, decent moral guidelines. As for those who believe in it, whatever makes you happy is fine.

So this pretty much sums up one of the big reasons why I`m not a Christian anymore. A lot of these you can chalk down to errors in translating, copying, etc and say that the meaning is what`s important. But some you just can`t reason away. The faith vs. works thing was the kicker for me. Depending on which verse you believe, the Catholics and the Protestants are both right/wrong. But that isn`t some silly little disagreement, it`s one of the fundamental questions of Christianity, right along with "who is Jesus?" If the Bible can support completely opposite beliefs on something so critical to its supposed message, how can it be trusted on anything else?

No need to even get into the fact that most Christians would be better called Paulists... flame war, amidoinitrite? :P

I thought they still had the original texts for most of it somewhere. Could be wrong on that.

There are some very old copies of a lot of it, but I think no-one is claiming they`re the originals.

In any case, for both parts of the Christian bible the genuine originals were spoken, not written.

So it was all edited even before it was written. Written by different people over a long period of time. In the case of the new testament, we also know for sure that most of the writings were discarded and ordered to be suppressed by the Christian church itself, i.e. the very first version of the new testament of the bible was edited to suit the rulers of the early Christian church (finalised in Nicea in 325).

So I also think it`s reasonable to say it`s been edited and rewritten (and translated) so much that it`s impossible to know what it originally said. Which wasn`t the original version anyway, as that was spoken.

I don`t think that has anything to do with organized religion. I know I`ll get a lot of crap for this but... Christianity/The Bible is just OBVIOUS crap that can easily be disproved, where as the existence of a god is questionable and cannot be disproved.

Obviously it seems difficult to defend anything on this site. It seems there are a lot of people set in their ways, and if Jesus showed up in front of them, they would scream `Shopped!’ But I will just throw this defense up, referring to whether God `created` evil -
The word translated, evil, is from a Hebrew word that means ‘adversity, affliction, calamity, distress, misery.’ The other major English Bible translations render the word: disaster, calamity, and woe. The Hebrew word can refer to moral evil, and often does have this meaning in the Hebrew Scriptures. However, due to the diversity of possible definitions, it is unwise to assume that ‘I create evil’ in Isaiah 45:7 refers to God bringing moral evil into existence.
Ok I`m done, just wanted to throw that out. I`m not going to bring up anything else. Now I am going to hide - because I am about to be attacked by a million atheists.

When people tell me I`m going to go to hell, I laugh and tell them that I don`t care because I don`t believe in hell.

Neither can be proven, but in my mind it just seems more reasonable that an afterlife doesn`t exist. For all I know, it could. But as of now, I don`t think it does.

In response to what was said near the end of the video and at 6:23:

So you`d rather stick to the logic based on what was written a couple of millennia ago over what has been observed since and is being observed to this day?

The only reason there is a debate on here, is because both sides are to ignorant to just drating laugh. Sure, it bashes Christianity, and you have to give them some credit. At least their not a negative little bitch all the time. Their just a persecuting one ;o)

Wait.. f#ck.. I entered a debate I`ll never come back and look on again... sh*t.

there are none from before the middle ages still presently intact. if there are they are hidden away in the vadican vault somewhere. the oldest known texts are the dead sea scrolls, but they have yet to be translated and are in to horrible condition to be read thoroughly.

Yep once again here are the "Christians" shoving christianity down your throats. HMMMMMMMMMMM. just like you have your beliefs and your religion I have mine and we are not going to convince eachother. I am going to my Grave as a Servant to this Most high God the alpha and Omega.
you talk about God as though he is equal to us when in fact he is God not a puny man and you know what that means. He gets to do what he wants to do when he wants to do it, how he wants to do it. No matter how things look to you the bible also says that if you are not touched by God you CANNOT understand the bible. it will be senseless and contradictory. So go on proving God right. I will serve God not matter how much atheist shove their beliefs down my throat. No matter how often they produce their videos exclaiming how they don`t understand God. I wish you all could see but you cannot. God is going to do to you what he said he was going to do and My heart goes out to you. Praise God the I AM.

Some of them I`ll admit are contradictory but the vast majority of them this guy has misunderstood, some of which are pretty simple. For example:

"According to Genesis were humans created before the animals?" Genesis 1:25-7 does say animals were created first. Genesis 2:18-19 does NOT contradict this as implied. It says animals had already been created, and that the humans (referred to as `man`) were allowed to give each species names. OK, I`ll let him off with this one since it`s worded in a way that maybe a 5 year old might misinterpret.

    BUT

"On the road to Damascus did Paul`s travelling companions hear the voice that spoke to Paul." Acts 9:7 says the men could hear the sound but couldn`t see anyone. Acts 22:9 does not contradict this as implied. It says them men could not understand the voice, not that they couldn`t hear it. Not even 5 year olds would misunderstand that one.

On a more personal note, this is yet another video I`ve seen from this guy bashing Christianity and by the looks of his channel there are many more. I think he needs a new hobby. I`m sure `I make flash animations with the sole purpose of shoving my atheist views down the throats of Christians in a sarcastic and bitter fashion` goes down well at all the parties, but life`s too short to waste bickering over differing views and opinions. People really just got to learn to ignore what annoys them and yes, I know that`s slightly hypocritical since I`m clearly not just ignoring this, but I wanted to make a point.

@Webz I`m really not sure which version of the Bible you`re reading, because the five or six that I checked all said
"Then the LORD God said, `It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.`
Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name."
There is nothing in there about God having created the animals already.

duffytoler, I don`t think stating facts counts as "bashing". And really? Why would we give Islam the same amount of time in the hot seat? It doesn`t feature in our everyday lives with nearly as much frequency. I don`t think most people even know enough about Islam to make fun of it. If you can give me a good Islam joke, go for it. Just remember, Islam is not the same thing as terrorism.

    Baalthazaq wrote "First example:
Jeremiah 17:4. Hell will exist forever.
Micah 7:18. God`s anger is is not permanent."

Ok Baal, since you`re keen on evidence, what Version of the bible are you reading? Because HELL is not mentioned at all in the Old Testament, which was written by Hebrews who do not believe in a hell or the devil.
The standard translation of of the phrase in Jerimiah 17:4 is "ye have kindled a fire in mine anger, which shall burn for ever." Yet even in that SAME BOOK only a few chapters earlier he states "I am merciful, saith the Lord, and I will not keep anger for ever." Jeremiah 3:12.

oh wait... could it be these same things have already been answered long ago and continue to be, quite clearly and would only be argued as depicted here by some who haven`t quite grasped it... unfortunately too many. i know this sort of stuff gives atheists a huge boner to satisfy their massive egos.
