"Bieber has a German heritage, and he knows how to speak a little German, and can count in German. This was obviously some misunderstanding. I saw this online somewhere else and they had links of him talking about his German heritage before this happened. " - SouthpawSlew

How is it though, that he also says "We don`t have that in America" when his direct heritage from his parents is that of Canada. He didn`t even say "Americas", emphasis on the s. That isn`t correct either, but it`s a hell of a lot better than "we don`t have that in America". See my earlier point.

Going with Anarchist on this one.

It doesn`t matter how hard his accent is to figure out, as soon as it reaches the point where he shows him the card and points to "German", we can conclude this guy has less culture than a tub of yoghurt.

@yessitsmesay
@Berenice

The question was "True or false: `Bieber` is German for basketball."

It would be the same as saying "True or false: `Bieber` is Spanish for basketball.", or any other language.

to be fair to the snot rag the guy started saying his name leaving a massive pause and then said `is german for basketball` that makes no sense, and when he asked him to repeat it instead of asking the full question he only said `is german for basketball`

lauryn

i wasn`t referring to the "pie" and "cheese" bit of the question

i was refering to the usage of the word "german"

for example the question i stated "hund is german for dog"

in the german language "hund" is german for dog in teh same way "eins, zwei, drei" is german for "1, 2, 3" so i did mean "hund" exactly how it sounded

to not know what the word "german" is means you either didnt go to school or wasnt taught it in school which is utterly stupid thing to not teach people especially about their own country`s history

he repeated german as if he had no idea what the "word" was, as if he had never herd of the country before and even if you confused the first part, "german for basketball" would automatically make me think hes asking a question about whether a certain word is german for something in which you should reply

Yeah it is confusing for me, "is pie american for cheese?", I would think of a cheesecake, Because american `pies` in my mind are sweet like `cream pies` ie what clowns in USA throw @ each other.

In Aus a `pie` is meat pie, whereas when i think of an american style pie, i think of the cream pies, here the closest we come to having cream pies are like a pavlova or a tart, See the difference?

And im not sure if you mean hund or hound (difference of spelling between different countries) Because yes i see hound as in the word dog,

But still as i said b4, the meaning of his last name and the way the reporter asked, then repeated the question, WAS confusing, im Australian.. i understand most Maori`s, and kiwi`s accents, but that guys accent was off! I had to listen twice to get what he ment, call me dumb or whatever, but hey, feel free to come over and perfectly understand our accents and All of our slang, then critisize beiber for

"I was defending the kid, because he THOUGHT the word GERMAN was some kind of `SLANG`... (ie street talk for some other meaning!) "

if i asked you a question along the lines of "is pie american for cheese?" is their any chance you would confuse american with some sort of kiwi slang word or would yur mind jump straight to the first significant thought in your mind, the country?

if i asked you "is hund german for dog?" would you confuse "german" for a kiwi slang word and not the most significant thing in your mind, the country, germany?

do you see my point?
you cannot confuse german or germany for anything other than the country as anyone with a basic knowledge of geography or history which is taught at low levels in primary schools from where i live

the mind pulls the most significant thing, out of the list of memories it has, out first so unless you werent paying attention in school or have the IQ of a nat,

Oh and deeplick... one thing i forgot to add...!! The question had nothing to do with UNDERSTANDING german!!.. the language or the people!! it was one word.. his last name, and honestly... im like part german, and if i was asked wtf my last name ment in german i would be dumbfounded too...

What does your last name mean in german??? NO USING GOOGLE!! HHMMMMMM?? on the spot right now i BET YOU HAVE NO dratING CLUE>>>??? you have like 5 minutes to answer, that kid was given less... so i expect ALOT from you. Know it all.. :)

@Deeplick Really? Because when he didnt understand what he said, the interviewer repeated "Is German for basketball?" ... "Is German for basket Ball?" Uh... Why did he not repeat the full question instead of asking it in such a way? O_o

I agree with Lauryn here. >_> As much as I dont care or know about the kid (I just learned who he is like a couple weeks ago from a previous IAB post), this is pretty retarded.

deeplick... well you better get your 5 y/o nephew into a GREAT freakin school.. like NOW!!....
Seeing as he knows everything (as kids at that age DO), and because i have a 5 y/o SON... plus nephew`s and friends kiddies that are that age or older now! (i know how most of them think!!)

Honestly tho i do get that you mean your 5 y/o nephew would get the question `beiber` was asked... and (IYO) answer corectly.. BUT i highly doubt that is the truth, unless the fact is your nephew is a genius...

I was defending the kid, because he THOUGHT the word GERMAN was some kind of `SLANG`... (ie street talk for some other meaning!)

Example... for men/guys.. we use the word `bloke`... for girls/ladies we use `sheila`s`.. and so many other SLANG words that people from the USA/CANADA just dont understand..

same as WE dont get the slang that you guys use over there!

Lauryn my 5 year old nephew knows what the hell that question means. He was asked "Bieber is German for Basketball. True or false?" How could someone of that age not understand what that means?! And how the hell do you not know who the Germans are or what their language is?! Because you don`t go to school and haven`t been taught history.

If he doesn`t understand that question he truly is a retard and needs to spend more time learning something and less time singing.

"I don`t understand how that is weirdly worded?"

written and spoken will come across differently. he specifically says, "Justin (pause) Bieber, (pause) is german for basketball?" so the kid (who is already trying to overcome the strong accent of the host) doesn`t understand, he heard (as did I) "is german for basketball?" I too would`ve said "what", and as batmanners pointed out, the host continues to insist "is german, german, german, for basketball". the host should`ve regained his composure and said, "does bieber mean basketball in german?" he apparently thought "german" pronounced very `kiwish` was a way to say you like something, hence "I like basketball if thats what you mean". also why he said "we don`t say that in america, sorry"

As such, the people who truly deserve recognition are pushed aside by the flood of fan-girls who viciously threaten anything that might take fame or power away from those they worship...

And amonamarth20, shut up. I hate the little c*nt too, but you`re just making yourself sound like more and more of an idiot with every post...

You`re all (those who argue a different point than I am about to state) being stupid and missing what that kid is confused about.

He says "Justin......Bieber, right?? Is German for Basketball?"
When the kid takes the question as "Is German for basketball" the kid asks for clarification, to which the host insists "German, German, Is German for basketball?" Instead of either saying the entire question again, or rephrasing the question "Is Bieber German for Basketball?"

Whether or not he knew the answer is irrelevant, the kid simply didn`t get the poorly phrased question, and the accent had nothing to do with it... it was all the host`s fault.

davymid, i wasnt correcting peoples grammer

i was telling him to understand the words in a question before HE faulted the grammar of the question it wasnt to do with the grammar HE used or the grammar I used, it was to do with his understanding of the words used.

"i completely dignify this pie"
sounds stupid right?
replace dignify with german to HIS understanding and the rest of the words with the question and you have his result. he didnt understand german so he didnt understand the question

its confusing to explain but i dont have to lead by example to notice a fault. i type without much grammar for the sake of speed and the lack of willpower to correct it all

oh i get you davymid

you noticed the lack of space between the "true or false" part of the question and the first chunk, right?

in a TV show with limited time saying things relitively fast is a given

you try saying the question normally without trying to add the space and you`ll see

plus he also showed the card to the kid and he still didnt understand

all i did was point out that he faulted the phrasing of the question without first understanding the words used in the question. you cant fault the grammer of the question if you dont understand the words.

i fail to see the irony in that suggestion

Besides, the question was worded badly, and asked with a pretty goddam thick kiwi accent. It`s like someone asking you in a broad italian accent: "fancylad is korean for busstop true or false?". That would throw me off too.

A better, clearer way to ask the question would have been "Bieber is the German word for basketball, true or false".

Male 4,867
lol davy.

For people who dont understand the question:

The interviewer was asking a True/Fasle question. He makes a statement then askes Justin LittleShiit Beiber if its True or False - you all get how that works?? Beiber may have initially misunderstood the question, but the guy showed him the card! Either JB can`t read or he doesn`t know wtf the word `German` means - it wouldn`t surprise me if both were true.
Also you`re all on a par with Justin Beiber in terms of intelligence, give yourselves a pat on the back

if he asked me "tanner is polish for your mother" i would know automatically that he was referring to my second name (my 2nd name is tanner)

if you cannot see the blatantly obvious connection to your name in a question testing your knowledge about yourself for the purpose of giving more information to the fans then you clearly need some extra tuition

omg because you have no idea what "germany" is you dont realise that "german" is the name of the language they speak (its referred to as "deutsch" in the german language) so when he says "beiber is german for basket ball" its exactly the same as saying "pie is american for a big pastry filled with apples"

seriously, if your going to question grammer, learn about the words hes using so you can understand what they mean

your fitting your stereotypes perfectly :P

I think he thought "German" was some sort of kiwi slang for "jonesin". As in "Bieber is jonesin` for basketball".

infact im also expecting some sort of reply that, if talking about ww2, shows how you cant define the difference between a german and a nazi, most likely lumping them bother together

lol
seriously i know im most likely being harsh but i am open minded to other countries, its just when people from certain countries fit with their national stereotype its funny as fudge

@Puddingbrood - Nope! I`m not a fan of little boys who sound like girls and sing about whatever it is that this guy sings about. Actually, I prefer Korean music :P But that doesn`t mean that I can`t understand how he was confused. I had to watch it a 2nd time to understand what the guy was asking because he never repeated the first part of the question.

"I had no idea what the interviewer was talking about either. :/"

lmao you too?

germany is a country in europe! you should bloody know what it is because your country played a part in removing nazi`s from germany in world war 2! how could you forget or is it that your patriotism blinds you from all else other than your own precious cultural heritage?

Theres no excuse for him not getting that unless he was so nervous he couldn`t think properly. Anyone who hears words like German, French, Spanish, etc... should understand that it`s referring to language. He has no excuse for being that dumb in that moment.

so let me get this if I can...

he is 16 but looks and ACTS 12

he is built like puberty lost his address

sings like a girl in everyway and makes mediocre music (and that is giving it alot of credit)

and somehow he is famous?

wtf is wrong with the world today where we prmote such midlevel talent instead of the ones that really are exceptional?

the dumbing down of the world continues full steam ahead!

The reason he was confused is he thought "Is German for" was some kind of weird phrase and didn`t realize that the question was "Bieber is German for". He was showed the word German but most likely was just focusing on that word and not the rest of the question. The interviewer could have worded that better and repeated the whole question not just part of it :/

So what if he didn`t read the question again? He SHOWED him the word! The issue was not a poorly phrased question, it was the fact that he doesn`t know what the word German means.

I can see how the question can sound confusing. The interviewer should of said was "Justin, your last name Beiber, is it German for basketball? He kept repeating only part of the question which changed the context of what he meant originally. "Is German for basketball," is all Justin focused on. Btw he is CANADIAN!!! Also Bieber is German for beaver.

Oh. Not what I thought this would be. I thought like he didn`t know what the German language would be. He just didn`t understand the slang you kiwi`s use. On a related question, you guys know what basketball is? I thought all your sports involved shagging sheep
