Worst part is, its not even editing or photoshop-they just cropped the picture.

@Animecha the points are these:
#1 AP and Reuters are companies which provide the "news information" which TV, Radio, newspapres &etc use for their broadcasts. All over the world! If AP&R are faking the news, this is obviously bad, yes?
#2 madest, as usual, makes a dissenting remark with no link to criticize my link. He`s a reaction troll who loves to "get a rise" out of other commenters.
As for "strawman" THAT would be madest`s "arguement" eh? It`s OK if Reuters passes photoshopped pictures as real, because FoxNews spins it`s pictures too!
ANyhow, my origional post was to provide an example of how news agencies DO USE spin in their reporting, so madest is agreeing with me!
8-)

"Ah madest, troll of the month! You`re equating a single newscaster with two News Agencies (Reuters and AP) is that the way the liberal mind works?"

I suspect a big Straw-man, and that you know full well that it isn`t one news caster on Fox that spins stories or selectively chooses what goes on air.

"Madest: This ? DC Tea Party Protest 2009 Or This ? "

Trying to fool us or did you just accidentally pull up the wrong pic? That big one is an anti Bush rally against the war in Iraq, just look at the signs lol.

Look carefully in this picture, The barrell only appear to be pressed against the PoW`s head. The soldier directly in front of the PoW has his hand on his knee and is leaning toward him. Directly behind him, is a soldier carry a rifle in an "at rest" position. Which places the barrel of the gun more than four feet from his head and pointing at the ground approximately three inches from the PoW`s knee. Apparently whoever shopped the picture realized that the vantage point of the camera would steal away from this soldiers act of kindess as it has clearly done. The only deception here is your own bigoted point of view.

> Completely off the track here - why are there ads popping up in the comments all of a sudden?

Actually that`s completely ON-track because this post is all about the media and advertising and all that lol. But the answer is - IAB gets hit by about 20 spambots a day, every day. The mods usually remove the posts and permban before you see 90% of them, but lately these shoespam douchebags have been using rotating random IP`s for their bots so every time we ban one, another takes its place.

My suggestion is go to their site, extract the email address from the `Contact Us` link, and paste it into every pornspamming site you can think of.

it doesn`t matter if the gun is pointed at his head or not (which it isn`t) its about the fact that if those two things were going on, shifting the picture one way or the other creates two totally different ideas
How about that gun`s in the foreground and not pointed at his head? Apparently perspective and spatial relations just go went out the window.
Do you think the majority of braindead America actually is intelligent enough to know the difference?

I`m glad those of us on IAB can easily see what`s going on. and wouldn`t be fooled, but if this picture were to appear in the news, I doubt ours would be the majority opinion...

Madest: This ? DC Tea Party Protest 2009 Or This ?
Austin Tea Party Protest
Or perhaps there ? More DC Tea Party Protest

The media tried to downplay how many people attended, But it`s obvious it was well over 200,000. Also Note: There are no confederate flags, swastikas, or racist signs in any of these, Despite the smears.

@TopperHey The Associated Press regularly used altered and "staged" photos when it came to "reporting" against Israel, eh?
Here`s Some Edumication
Even after they were caught, they still pretended it was OK to do.

The gun is in the foreground. You can see the hand of the soldier. The gun is not being placed up against his head. It`s possible that he`s just holding it, but due to the perspective it looks like he`s aiming at the man.

topperhey, thats not true, some sources will use any image, no matter how bad, to get their point across.

To be fair, the image on the left is so horrendously cropped that noone would use it. And the image on the right is a fair reflection of what`s happening. Sooo bad example.

Come to think of it, a couple of inches away would be wrong anyway. If you`re pointing a gun at someone, you want to be a little further away to ensure that it`s not possible for them to push or grab the gun before you can shoot them. I`d expect a soldier to know that.

msnbc would show the left showing war=bad, fox news would show the one on the right showing US Soldiers=good, and cnn would show the middle one and give a little of both sides.
Why would they be simultaneously watering and threatening a person with a gun?
The threat is probably less than it seems - perspective skews distances in a 2D image of a 3D reality. You`ve probably seen those "playing with perspective" photos in which someone appears to be as big as (and holding up) the leaning tower of Pisa, or that famous one from the middle east with the camel spiders a couple of feet long. I think that gun is between the camera and the man on the ground, not a few inches from his head.

Even if it is pointed right at his head, it`s still sensible. The soldier giving the water is in a vulnerable position. The enemy on the ground might still be a threat. They could be faking to get an opportunity to kill, or they could be injured but still able and willing to kill. Taking that into account is reasonable caution.

It doesn`t require a gun to restrain a handcuffed, sitting man surrounded by 3 people.
If the gun is in the foreground that makes slightly more sense but to have it pressed against his head is unnecessary.

The gun doesnt point at the man. Its just the angle which made it look like.

Inaria,

If you look closely, the gun is closer to the foreground. It is probably a foot or two closer to the camera than the man.

"Why would they be simultaneously watering and threatening a person with a gun?"

Seriously?
Maybe the guy they just...arrested? captured?...asked for water cause he`s thirsty.

What`re they gonna say? No? We prefer our captives to have heat stroke and die of dehydration?

Tainted:

Because he`s an enemy combatant? Good grief these people were trying to kill our soldiers and you expect them to just handcuff them?

They`re treated humanely, but humanely doesn`t mean all rainbows and butterflies.

editing = Changing.

if you do anything that somehow changes the property of the original picture, then it is editing.

cropping, removing a lens flare, or adding a huge bear in the background is editing.
