Any guy with that kind of fixation with his video games isn`t likely to be good boyfriend material.

I love nerdy guys but...Not the either of the nerdy guys up there. The "hot" one looks like a tool and the other one just isn`t my taste in looks. When I say nerdy it means: Guys that like things like video games, anime, computers, and are intelligent, etc. I don`t think looks define a nerdy person anyways. Its their interests and how they act more then anything.

To all the guys crying "Bawww Girls don`t like me, they must just be vain/stupid!"

I actually find it really hypocritical that so many nerdy guys complain about a lack of success with women because many of them go for vain and stupid women to begin with (It`s just like the women who go after douchebags and then complain that all men suck). Sure, there are lots of girls who can`t see a guy`s potential, but did you ever think maybe you were going after the wrong kind of women? Sorry, but the hot and popular blonde chick who has only ever dated football players is of course not going to notice you. Yes that is stupid and vain of her, but while you`re going after that stupid, vain girl who will never appreciate you and isn`t worth your time, there are probably tons of cute, but awkward or shy girls who would appreciate you and are worth your time, but that you never notice. Yes, they`re out there, and they`re under-appreciated by the opposite sex. Sound familiar?

Having been considered a nerd, and knowing a lot about nerdiness, I know that girls don`t like nerds, what they ACTUALLY mean is that they like douchebags with glasses. Entirely different.

"Confidence is when you introduce yourself with a smile, eye contact and a firm handshake."

This is generally my approach. I`m not the type to be overbearing or pushy. Its still doesn`t get me very far. I really believe girls around where I live only want one of two kinds of guys... either the strong athletic clubhead douchebags, or the skinny jeans wearing emo boys. Average guys don`t get noticed much.

If girls "often" misread your confidence as you being a "controlling jerk", then you should probably re-evaluate the ways you show this confidence. I genuinely mean that as advice. If many or most people have a problem with something about you, it`s usually not their fault.

I think most girls are quite happy with a healthy dose of confidence. Confidence is when you introduce yourself with a smile, eye contact and a firm handshake. It`s being able to participate in any conversation with ease. It is NOT, however, the same as not being able to shut up, being pushy or too aggressively flirtatious.

well a lot of times it depends on how you display that confidence, if you meet someone and start boasting about your abilities then yeah, that can come off as arrogant, but the confidence im talking about is the type where you are able to say "hey you look nice" or "i really enjoyed this, would you like to go out again" instead of beating around the bush and acting like you`re gonna die if you put yourself out there

I have the kind of confidence where I know who I am and I`m happy with myself, but I don`t feel the need to dominate anyone. The downside to this is that girls often misread confidence as being arrogant... Its one of the reasons I have such problems with meeting girls. They seem to think I`m a controlling jerk just because I show a little confidence. This is the reason for my earlier statement.

"she`s really just saying she wants a guy who`ll be submissive and will give in to her way ...confidence scares the girls away."

You and that other guy saying this could not be more wrong. I think you`re confusing confidence with controlling dominance. We love confidence, but we don`t want somebody who feels the need to be dominant over us, just like I personally don`t want to dominant over somebody else. That`s for an S & M relationship. I`ll take equality thanks-- no dominating or submitting for either party.

lol this is pretty legit :)
but to the other taylor, confidence def doesnt scare girls away, my last bf didnt have enough confidence and it bugged the crap outta me, its like constantly having to reassure someone if they dont have enough

Oh, look! It`s Matty Smith! He`s kind of attractive, but guys, his face is shaped like a foot. Not cool. That`s why Karen Gillan`s legs need to be in the show - to balance the ugly and beautiful.

But I must add that he is also very adept socially, and not a doormat in the slightest. He does have acne though, and I couldn`t care less.

All my boyfriends have been nerdy types. I go for slightly social awkward and not conventionality "attractive" guys because 1) They`re usually pretty intelligent. 2) They don`t think they`re the poo/aren`t full of themselves and are usually sweeter and more caring 3) We have things in common like video games and programming.

GosuPaul hit it pretty cleanly... Whena girl says she wants a geeky guy, she`s really just saying she wants a guy who`ll be submissive and will give in to her way. A guy can be geeky without being a weak doormat. (I include myself in this lot.) However, those same girls who say "I love geeky guys." won`t give the strong geeky types the time of day because confidence scares the girls away.

Female 1,963
By "geeky" I usually mean 1) intelligent 2) witty 3) obsessed with and knowledgeable about gadgetry. That`s pretty much my boyfriend right there. Somehow I think geeks are better than nerds, but I`m not sure I could explain why. Perhaps I think geeks are more capable than nerds. Nerds are like geeks with less applicable skills.

Yeah, I think women forget that nerds/geeks often = Fat, acne-ridden, lack of hygiene, extremely socially awkward, boring, etc.

They`re more after the whole `Teehee, he`ll fix my computer for free and act all timid and nervous and cute around me because I`m a girl and he`s not used to me. Teehee. Oh, manliness? I don`t need that. I need him to be submissive and a bit insecure so I don`t feel overpowered or intimidated.`

Obviously I`m generalizing here, but I think it applies in quite a few cases.
