Looks pretty damn cool, although some of the movements a little unrealistic for a car.

This is exactly how the Back to the Future ride at Univerql worked. However, this solution here has one problem, you can see the real horizon end everything else. To work perfectly, you have to be enclosed in a box.

Btw people, is is also how real flight trainers work.

Not unrealistic. Poster just has no concept of G-forces...

it may look unrealistic but think of it in terms of g-forces on your body, heavy acceleration you`d feel as if you were pushed back in your seat

Not really unrealistic. The tilting up or down is to force your body back against the seat or forward towards the screen to simulate speeding up or slowing down. I sooo want one.

You are still looking at the screen the whole time so the movements are simulating accel. and braking. Its probably the most awesome thing in the world.

Meh, be easier to make an indy car one, just place books under one side of your chair while playing.

The chair movements simply simulate (probably not at full strength) the G forces felt by the F1 driver. It has nothing to do with the movement of the car. Think about it: the screen always stays at the same spot with respect to the driver.

There we go, finally someone who got it.

Just imagine how awesome this would be to good racing games, say Forza, racing some of the more mediocre cars (read: not cars that can generate a pull of more than 1g in any direction). =D

Words car hardly express how much I want to try that!

The pressure from the chair pushes against your body while moving. The same thing happens in vehicles.

The movements arent supposed to be the movements of the car, they are there to give a sense of the G forces, when he accelerates it tips back so he is pulled back into his seat, when he brakes he is tilted forward so he is thrown forward in his chair as if he just went through deceleration. Same for the corners though he can only experience 1G at the most in the chair and F1 cars would probably pull 4G upwards.

Well, it seems unrealistic because the movements have to be exaggerated to provide the same sensation as being in a formula 1 car. The machine is stationary, so it has to compensate for the sensation.

Vapor13 - "Is this Gran Turismo? I know a lot of the realistic racing games look alike these days but that sure looks like the Gran Turismo speedometer at the bottom. I`d love to play GT in a sim like that."

It`s not Gran Turismo. Everything`s in the wrong place and that`s not a track I recognise (I`m a GT nerd). But yes, that would be SUPER awesome!!

Ah, Sim Rigs. Moving around to simulate the forces put on you. Looks like huge fun!

A journalist tried the much more advanced, uber-expensive `rig that Formula 1 types actually use. His eyes went funny. He got real motion sickness.

Well the tilting backwards and forwards is just simply to provide the sensation of being pushed into or out of your seat from acceleration.

if you guys are interested into getting into sim racing, i suggest trying out ARCA Sim Racing. found here: http://www.thesimfactory.com/main/

simply put, its the best stock car sim on the market atm, and will support the COT, GNS, CWTS as well as ARCA when verxion 2 is released.

you dont need to spend uber amounts of cash to get into racing. maybe $50 for the software and round $230 for a decent steering wheel controler. (that being a Logitech G25)

it only APPEARS the movements are out of whack, buy they are made to trick your body and brain into g-forces

The movement is not unrealistic when it tips back it supposed to simulate going fast and getting pulled back, and when it tips sideways it simulates the force of turning when you get pulled dont know what the scientific term is

I think it is a motorcycle simulator. Watch as the driver negotiates turns. The image on the screen tilts like a motorcycle. Awesome contraption!

I am going to the Montreal Grand Prix!!! So excited.

I hope Ferrari can somehow manage to win. I hate how Red Bull suddenly decided not to suck....makes me so mad because they`re beating out the stables that have been winning for 50 years....and it`s not even a car company`s car....it`s a dratING ENERGY DRINK!

As previously stated, it`s not about the movement at all, it`s about the forces being re-created and I want.

i`m pretty sure it simulates the breaking and the power of the thrust of the car when it goes up and down like that, gives it a point of G`s effect on the body. I see nothing wrong with it. but it is SWEET!!! got to so get me one

I don`t get where F1 > NASCAR? Do you think if you played a nascar game on this rig it`s wouldn`t be as intense? Riding a 30 degree corner at Daytona in a NASCAR game would be amazing in this setup!

Looks fun.
Also totally made me remember I dream I had a while back. It was kinda like this (but I was in a white room, with this kind o machine and a screen), and the game was`t racing, it was one from the StarWars franchise.
And maybe that motion is what`s required to provide the G-force to make it "feel" like the driving is occurring?
That`s exactly it. If you can maintain focus strongly enough on the gameworld, you perceive far less movement than an observer because the gameworld is not moving *relative to you*.

To do it properly, you`d need to completely enclose the simulator to remove visible movement from the player`s point of view, but this works pretty well because the player will be focused on the gameworld.

It doesn`t really move anywhere near enough. Even with an enclosed sphere with 360 degree movement, the most you could get is 1g in any direction. An F1 car can generate 1.5g backwards, 4g forwards and 5.5g sideways. Full braking forces you to exhale - your lungs are compressed by the force. You can`t breathe during maximum cornering and an untrained person is likely to pass out. It`s seriously hardcore.

i agree with IABer`s comments, i think the movements are purposely exaggerated to more closely simulate actual g`s you would experience in a real race car...

...now just throw this sucker in a wind tunnel and you`ve got yourself a party!!

The movements seem correct. It leans hard right when you are turning left so that it feels like you are being pulled right. I would only recommend closing the space in, this way you wouldn`t be disoriented by the room around you, and would probably make for a more realistic experience.

I was thinking the same, they arent trying to mimic the cars movement but more like the G Force

Oh, and the forward leaning is because when you brake you get pushed forward.

It`s only missing 3D..

Also, the movements aren`t supposed to be realistic.
Leaning back gives you the feeling of being pushed back, and forward feels same but forward.

it`s leaning to simulate the g-force. you are supposed to feel like you are being pushed back in your chair, not popping wheelies, obviously.

Think about driving. You get pressed back into your seat when you accelerate, so the machine tilts upwards; you get thrown forward when you brake, so the machine tilts downward.

Pretty exaggerated angles for a car! When`s the last time you popped wheelies at 20+ degrees in your car, or did nose plants at 20+ degrees. But still pretty fun looking. :-) And maybe that motion is what`s required to provide the G-force to make it "feel" like the driving is occurring? Seeing as the screen moves with the driver, keeping the angle for the driver and his view relatively constant, that could certainly be it? Looks fun!
