This is where I reiterate that I am very grateful for the NHS over in the UK :)
Sure, a lot of other things here suck, but at least we all have access to free healthcare. I hate when I hear horrid stories about people without insurance over in the states. and then people have awful bumper stickers like this :( it makes me sad.

Hey davymid... did you actually take the time to read your own info-graphic? Including spending on hospital infrastructure indicates that we`re spending more to make sure we have the best facilities available. Now we all know we spend through the teeth on healthcare which is why reform was necessary, no arguments from most people on that. But continuing to push the idea that goverment run healthcare is the only option is ridiculous. America is an anomoly and cannot be compared to small European countries that have much less overhead than we do as a country. Speaking of which last time I checked there are more than 21 industrialized nations in the world that can track this information concerning their healthcare systems so where are the rest of them? Or do those countries not support the point that this person was trying to make. You want to pretend that you have THE answer then include all the data so people can make an informed decision. To see only what you want to see is re

davymid: Would you agree that there are several other factors that keep lowering Americans life expectancy factors such as Obesity, High Blood Pressure, Diabetes, Drug abuse, Smoking, STDs, etc.. and that those percentages are higher in the USA than most countries ?

Many of the health problems above have nothing to do with how much Americans spend on insurance/health care, It has to do with genetics, diet, exercise, sexual preferences, and bad habits (among others).

Free? You`re right Ollie, it ain`t free. But sure as hell beats the living sh*t out of your current antiquated system.

Sorry for repost, but goddam it I`m gonna keep reposting it until it sinks in, cause thats how I roll with dealing with intractable, dug-in reticence from individuals that can`t seem to admit they`re wrong. Bombard them with actual data. Repeatedly, if necessary.

"You don`t get health care of any kind. You didn`t want it."

OR just pay up front, you dont want insurance, as in payments that financially secure you for future accidents. I suppose being accountable for your own decisions is a bit of a stretch for most people to accept though...

There are only 2 ways to do this...either require people to carry insurance or deny them all care at the hospital. If you refuse to carry insurance because you "don`t want it", and your appendix bursts or your hit by a car, you sit on the curb and die. You don`t get health care of any kind. You didn`t want it.

I only see one viable choice...

Unfortunately it`s alot easier to make something like this happen than it is to try and make it "un-happen" afterwards, but hopefully people finally understand that having charisma has nothing to do with someone`s ability to run a country, and vote for someone who actually knows what they`re doing. maybe someone who actually has, you know, experience? an ex-governor? ex-mayor ever? christ even an-ex "4th grade student counsel rep" would be a better choice. The government is supposed to work for us, not against us. your policies and actions should work towards a system is actually best for your people, not what you are trying to make us think is best for us. contrary to what they think, we`re not too stupid to know what`s in our best interests. Leave the governing to people who know what they`re doing, people with the integrity to do what`s right for the people that put you in office. That`s not darwinism, that`s eugenics.

Survival of the fittest says the most fit (not the most strong) will produce the most offspring. As you can see around you, the most fit individuals turned out to be the ones that helped eachother out.

The main problem isn`t about whose paying for the healthcare. Taxpayers were paying for defaulted hospital bills before the bill passed. It`s really about control. The government has it`s sticky hands on another 1/3rd of the economy and now it`s going to be hard to pry their fingers off it.

Well, considering humans have not had what we consider to be modern healthcare for most of our existence, I`d say it`s already been tried. In the long run, it would be better for the planet, because a lot more people would die before they could breed. Whether or not you want to live in a world where you have to have a ton of kids in order to be sure a few survive to adulthood is really the question. I`m not saying it`s a bad idea, but that`s what the world was like before modern healthcare (and what it still is like in countries that don`t have it).

#1, no I did not take psychology in school, I took other courses.

hmm.. I actually believe I never mentioned anything about what I took for education did I? Its kind weird you would attack me about something you have no idea about concerning me? I think its more of a personal attack instead of attacking the issue I brought up. Didn`t you learn that in psychology too? See what I did there! I made an assumption based off no proof that you took psychology in school and thus know more about the subject then I do!

Isn`t this game fun?

Odd taylor..

As a matter of fact! I do have a health problem, current before that!

I am not a tall person, im not really short, but I am short. Enough so where I BARELY made it into the armed services. Actually had to get in on a waiver because of the job I wished to do. While there, I was given improper amount of medication during the vaccination process at the Great Lakes training facility, which caused me to have reoccuring issues with my heart. Over time it did lessen, but its still there.

What bothers me now, is why people keep skipping over me saying "This excludes people with disabilities/injuries"? Why do you automatically assume I say everyone in the US that doesn`t have it?

I have a feeling all of you are out to get me! but Im here all night mostly... and have no problems defending what I believe in.

Davymid, he paid for the service himself, he paid for the parts and labor, he paid for the gas in the tank. I didn`t buy it for him, the posters here didn`t buy it for him, none of them bought it for him (or her dunno) he bought it himself. Someone else built it, and put a price, he willingly paid for it.

That being said, he wasn`t given the car and someone took money from his pocket even though he didn`t want it. Thats what this is doing, its giving some people something they don`t want, and taking money out of their pockets to pay for it.

If you want it, great that`s awesome, congratulations to you. You pay for it. People that don`t want it, have no choice but to pay for it anyways, just because.

Big difference.

Also, if your SO interested in where Im going, im moving to the Philippines, have been planning before this so it wasn`t a reaction like "OMFG GOTTA LEAVE"

Moving to Quezon if you must know.

Average time to get an MRI in this country: 119 days. Plenty of time for the cancer to eat your innards.

Scotchy, I`ve been working all my life. 50+ hours a week since I was 21. PLUS I do computer repair on the weekends for a flea market stand. I was declined health care a dozen times because severe heart problems run in my family. Its not that I can;t afford it. Its that the insurance companies won`t insure people who are "high risk". So you work, good for you. You worked your way up. Gold star. But DO NOT make yourself out like your better than any other tax paying Joe Schmoe just because you want to flaunt that you pay for your own health coverage. We`ll see what you say when your insurance company drops you when something happens because they deem you a danger risk. Then you`d be a fool to continue bitching about a free healthcare. So get off your pedestal, pull your cranium from your ass, and accept that you`re gonna pay taxes one way or another and it really makes no difference what its used for so bitching just makes you look like an idiot.

Yes, I am self-fish. I willingly pay may taxes, every year up till next year, I pay it the moment I get my W-2 form, back in January. I don`t wait till the last minute like other people.

I see and hear people bitch and moan about their jobs all day, and in the next breath demand welfare and unemployment when they hardly work to begin with.

So its ok to sit at home all day and get paid? Since when did everyone get lazy?

BTW, I think it would be a superiority complex, not inferiority. Inferior would assume that I have to be a leech and think I suck at everything.

Note, that I never said anything about disabled or injured people not deserving this, Im talking about perfectly fine people now that will leech the system because they can. I even mentioned that, thanks for noticing.

Also, welcome to a capitalist society. Sorry that people that succeed in life do better then people that don`t, that`s how it works. I worked my ass off since I was old enough to work, and I am in a very good spot. Everyone can do it, people that say they can`t haven`t tried hard enough.

I hate Oprah, but she is a good person to point at. Her life sucked, but she made something of herself, and now she is the most powerful woman in the country. I had nothing gift wrapped to me either, bought my own car, my own apartment, from the hard work and willingness to strive. Even now jobs and opportunities open up to me because I work hard at it. What bothers me is that some people think we should be socialist and spread the wealth from people that earn it to people that don`t. This does not count disabilities/injured people, I`m talking normal people that don`t try hard enough.

I could do it when I was 16, with no help, anyone could do it. Stop being lazy.
