Volcanoes are just Earth`s little way of reminding us who`s wearing the pants in this relationship.

Likely steam explosions causing the shock waves. This is in the middle of a rather large glacier, So it`s likely a lot of water is trying to seep into the crater and instantly turning to steam when it hits the lava. It`s an explosive 1600 to 1 ratio, 1 gallon of water makes 1600 gallons of steam.

Angelmassb: Volcanic lightning, Yes, Impressive. All those particles rubbing into one another produce a lot of static charge, Just like the ice crystals in normal clouds.

To understand how impressive that is, try to imagine the amount of TNT required to mimic what is shown in the vid

Steam shockwave? No.....You can clearly see that after each shotwave that LAVA is bein spewed into the air....For the size of this crater the amont of water required to do this would have to be much much higher....Most of the ice has already been melted by the time this video was shot

Yeah, Earth could kill us all, quickly, if she really wanted to... but it`s a lot more fun to watch us kill ourselves, slowly.

Ain`t Mother Nature and Karma a pair of bitches? (Speaking as a failed experiment in primate evolution, that is.)

Can we hold the front page on the supervolcano eruption until after I`m dead? I definitely definitely do not want to be around for such an event.

Steelgrid: Did you see all that white cloudy looking stuff ? That`s steam. Lava doesn`t just explode on it`s own, It can be spewed out from pressure, A collapse of the crater wall, OR water turning into steam. Groundwater and or an underground aquifer seeps in to the crater, it takes several seconds to heat up and then *BOOM*.

I had sound :S maybe turn it up a bit? There was plenty of roaring and blasting towards the middle.

Anyway, I bet Peter Griffin is feeling pretty smug about his volcano insurance right now.
