Anyone want to take a stab at what the hell those things are? There"s no way it"s seaweed...

The pic def seems to be kelp, but it really looks like a mash-up to me. Notice the lack of foaming at the crest of the wave and the off colored light blue near the bottom. If Kelp was truly rolling up in waves that size we would surly see some in the white surf near the shore and on those rocks. The water inside the wave seems quite murky as well for a surface wave. Looks from the lighting and color like it`s from at least 30 feet below the water surface. I can`t be sure and this is all speculation but my gut says Shopped. Meh.

Actually, yeah, that`s seaweed.

Seaweed can grow to massive lengths, although at that size it`s most likely the tops of a kelp forest.

That`s a beautifully timed and backlit photo to capture that through the wave, too. The photographer either got very very lucky or was planning that shot for days.
