Yeah, um, so what`s the point of this??? You still wait for the train to pick you up.

How exactly am I supposed to float in and out of the sub-car like that? Do I have to learn a new way to walk or something?

The only thing being skipped is the train`s acceleration, which takes - what - 15 seconds? Per stop?

also the best comment to this video is: "I bet this train was made by Toyota"
You mean kinda like anytime there is a regular train crash?
This system is far more complex though, which means there is far more to go wrong, which means things will go wrong more often.

Every passenger must be correctly positioned in either the upper or lower section of the train or on the platfrom, every time.

Every upper section must be correctly picked up by the lower section, every time. This will not be easy with a speed difference of 100mph or more.

Every upper section must be correctly released by the lower section, every time. Same speed problem.

It`s not the same as the current system.

I love the chinese language. It sounds amazing.

Oh and that`s a cool train I suppose.

Well you`d bloody well better get to the station on time then. There`s no holding it for a minute or depending on delays.

The brakes or whatever the top car stops on would take some doing to get right though - otherwise you either fly straight off or come to a shattering halt and spill coffee/books/shopping/vomit everywhere, only to get sudden harsh acceleration upon departure.

Nice idea though.

Captain Pat if only the engineers of this had a brilliant mind like yourself working for them. There is no way that anyone else thought up what you did, and didnt take steps to prevent it.

so what happens if that section comes detached while the train is moving? those passengers fall, hit the tracks at god knows how fast those trains go,from probably 10 or so feet in the air, and die?

@tyrannus,
Just in case you aren`t joking.

The people enter the `upper` wagon at the station.
When the lower train drives by, the upper wagon connects to the lower train and the travelers in the upper wagon enter the lower wagon.

People that want to exit at the next stop enter the upper wagon and wait untill the upper wagon is siderailed at their stop.
Where they step off and other travelers get in and wait for the next train to wizz by and the process repeats.

traincrashes would probably be worse tho, depending on the speed

>>That`s great, so long as there`s no delay (eg desperate passengers holding open doors like what happens on the london tube every minute of every sodding day).

Yeah, this would probably be the thing that kills it. Seems like there`s always some self-important a-hole trying to get on or off when they aren`t suppose to and screwing the whole thing up for everybody.

This is a really cool idea... but long-distance trains like this aren`t really bogged down by frequent stops. The only trains that would benefit are the ones that go through densely populated areas (like in Tokyo) and stop a lot... but for those there are simply too many people to make it work.

YEah, if 200 people want off at the next stop, and the shuttle only holds 120? Not too practical. Seems like a really high-tch expensive solution to a simple, low-tech problem.
Interesting idea though.

Great in theory....But if there was any hold up or glitch, you would have to wait until the next train comes which is a lot worse
But what about the train driver? How does he get out!?
He doesn`t get off. His fate is to drive that train forever, like Charon.

Man, the idea isn`t all that bad... but they had best make sure not to go with the lowest bidder. If something drats up, like a shuttle not detaching, I could see lots of people dieing.

Yes RecycleElf, I am/was serious about that question, because I hadn`t figured out yet that once you are connected to the train, you have to go down inside the train, I just thougt that you stayed in that train board therefor I questioned how the train driver gets out if the part he is sitting in (the train) NEVER stops...
Yes it sounds dumb afterwards, but most of the time I reply without thinking too much!

... I guess it gets you there faster because you don`t stop for any stop except your own.

For those who don`t see how this works...

The passengers getting on the train board the shuttle that`s waiting at the station. The passengers getting off the train board the shuttle being carried by the train. Then, as the train moves through the station, it switches shuttles.

Umm, what? You still have to wait for the train to come by, and you are still at a full stop when you reach your destination. How is this a train without stops? Sure, technically the train part never stops, but the part your riding in does.

"I can see a million ways this could go wrong at this stage, but it actually is a VERY intriguing idea. I mean, the major energy loss with any transport is acceleration (at least I think it`s a bigger energycraver than deceleration), meaning that this would be a more energy-efficient alternative to our systems today."

There is no such thing as deceleration in physics. There is however, negative acceleration. In a perfect system, you must use expend the same amount of energy to reduce velocity as you did to increase velocity. Newtons 3rd Law and all that.

I get that with trains now it stops at every station anyway, so the keep on stopping will change nothing to other people. Have you seen how busy trains are there? All a see is some big health hazzards and needing to run less trains wich means more profit.

As with alot in China, this seems to help only the higher ups get richer with no thought to the people who use it. As soon as the train hits it will blast the people hanging out the doors into the next world...

But, like I said, a million possible faults aside, and of course the appaling animation. >.<

@Oblivia: I imagine the driver learns to tuck-n-roll. ;-)

More seriously, I suspect the removable cars can connect to the train somehow -- probably a connection underneath the removable cars?

Male 4,290
I`m not really sure how this works. Do the passengers then go down into the main body of the train?

I don`t see how it would be much more efficient otherwise (from a passenger`s point of view).

Also it would be very annoying if the "stopping" train section got filled up, but you still wanted to get off. There goes my stop, dammit.
