you know what would be cool? a essentially one-time use or impact proof camera that`s weighted and dropped from up there. I wanna see the vid all the way to the ground.

I live right next to this and my building is 45 stories high and it still looks like a hut from up there!

Balthazaaq`s right. Out of 6.5 million people in the UAE, only 1 million in total are citizens. In Dubai`s 2.2 million, only 300,000 are citizens.

Rich enough to live there? 80% of the population doesn`t even earn minimum wage!

Jaime:
"Built by America"

Actually, like much of Dubai, built by everyone. Mostly Indian subcontinent workers.

Architect was American. The Architect on the other Burj is South African. The contractors are Belgian, Korean, and Local. Structural consultants were mostly British. Who universally hire Indian and Chinese workers.

Dubai itself is 88% expat last I checked. We don`t have a local population of 1 million people yet.

"Why is Dubai so obsessed with building super tall things??"

The second tallest building is a third of this thing`s size... big things though, yes, and we do it because it brings in the tourists, which is most of our income alongside real estate.

"Why spend 10 minutes in the elevator to reach your apartment". It takes 46 seconds. It is the world`s fastest elevator (40Mph).

"when there is so much barren land all around it where you could build great 2-storey mansions for a fraction of the cost and trouble?"

We have thousands of those. We had thousands for 20 years. Nobody knew who the hell Dubai was. Today, Tourism is our second, if not our main industry. That`s why.

Also, I can literally see my house from there. :D Well... I could see it from the viewing platform, you`re not allowed at the top of the mast at the top.

"Why? Why? Why spend 10 minutes in the elevator to reach your apartment; why install huge pumps to get running water to the top floors; why build a building that requires so much engineering skill to build and is likely to collapse with the first storm -

when there is so much barren land all around it where you could build great 2-storey mansions for a fraction of the cost and trouble?

I don`t get it. Just my 2c."

Alright, tell me if I`m the only one who gets like this. Whenever I`m really high up like in an airplane and I look down at the world, I can`t help but think the buildings and everything are actually really small and I`m overcome by the urge to reach out and touch them like they aren`t that far away. Or to stomp around like Godzilla. My perspective gets really drated.

Arggh. I`m not normally afraid of heights but anything that wobbles far off of the ground like a bridge or a ferris wheel freaks me the heck out!!

Kudos to the brave, brave man who made this film.
