Can anyone explain this? Are they pumping air into the lungs while using other tubes to feed a liquid(blood?)through pulminary artery/veins? Are they actually making the lungs work? And are the lungs therefor being given a refreshed blood supply?

It looks like it`s in a vacuum chamber which means they MIGHT be getting the lungs to work the same way they do in the body - meaning they are reducing the pressure around the lungs (in our body, the diaphragm does this) so air is drawn into the lungs...

Really cool though how they`ve done this! :)

I`ve set this up when i was a tech in a secondary school. Those lungs have a Slit across them wouldn`t be good for transplant. Word of warning When you blow into the pipe and the air rushes back Yuck not nice get away quick when you stop blowing :(

this is actually possible. They have brain dead cadavers where they basically force the lungs and heart to pump via electrical signals and such to keep blood flowing to all the organs. It is usually done if they have a body with a few good organs that cannot be taken out yet. I can`t say how long the brain dead cadavers go for, but if everything works, it could be a while.
I`m sure some of the same principles apply here.

I could be wrong but isn`t that just where the lobes of the lungs separate?
