you should never blow out a flame, one should use metal to snuff it out. Blowing out a flame angers the Fire spirits.

It`s not smoke, it`s the vapor of the wax, that`s what is burning when you light a candle.

"It`s not smoke, it`s the vapor of the wax, that`s what is burning when you light a candle."

Because if it was the wick burning, it would burn MUCH faster.

That`s because that smoke is actually evaporated wax. A lot of people think it`s actually the wick in a candle that`s burning, when really the wick absorbs the wax, which then burns.

    Yay science!

I learned this about 50 years ago. It works better if you snuff the candle instead of blowing it out which cools the wick and disperses the smoke.

The reason it works is that after the candle goes out, the smoke contains a lot of unburned vaporized wax, which is flammable. Also, the wick is still nearly hot enough to burn, so it`s easy to reignite it.

Candles are made of paraffin wax, melting the wax releases paraffin which the flame burns, the burning flame melts more wax and releases more paraffin. When the paraffin isn`t being burned the heat of the melted wax causes it to rise with the smoke, so there`s a little trail of paraffin leading back to the wick, reigniting the candle.

It`s not smoke, it`s wax and when you light the stream of wax it travels back down and lights the candle again because the wick is still hot.

after blowing out the candle it looked like he put it over a trail of smoke coming off the wic. maybe the smoke caught fire? i don;t think it`s possible, but hey... it`s worth a shot.
