Seems the government is more of a nazi than the guy with the truck.

LMAO, OMG, is this serious. I would understand if it said DIE, 666, 999, or something a little more obvious. This is Funny as hell.

The guy had a F-150. There`s 3 digits, the F is the 6th letter, Ford must have tried to code their code too... Ford F-666. OMG!!! LMFAO ROTFL

Uhhhhhhhh, hi? Freedom of Speech? So he`s a confederate a-hole who hates Islam and wants to ensure the future of the white race. He can be that if he wants. If he wants to write it out on his car, it`s HIS car, and he can if he wants. Freedom of Speech works both ways, like it or not.

And YES, I understand that the DMV can take away license plates if they find them offensive. Whatever.

"I think it`d be interesting to know why people aren`t saying it`s a breach of the first amendment when they censor or defame a person who expresses his negative opinion about jews."
You mean like Mel Gibson? Who is censoring that guy? He has worked on at least two picture since then, not that I saw or even know the names of them, because the best way to counter protest is to just not give the guy my money or promote his picture.

"Hate speech and inflammatory or riot-inciting speech is not covered"
I don`t see anything on the guy`s truck that says anything about hate. I do see, implied from the actual writing, that the guy does not want to know any more about Islam. I don`t know how it is where he drives his truck but, in the area I live, many fuel stations are owned by middle-easterners, many but, not all of whom are Islamic.
I would recommend to them and, anyone else that didn`t like his message, to simply not sell him fuel.

Hate speech and inflammatory or riot-inciting speech is not covered under the 1st (according to supreme court precedent)

Oh come on - if you are going to all these obscure references to the point they took this "14CV88" to, is there really going to be ANY license plate you can get? My initials, for instance: "Oh look - DT is the 4th and 20th letter of the alphabet, so it`s really 4-20, an obvious stoner reference. DENIED."

I`m not saying I`m with the DMV`s action, but I still don`t understand why this in particular created so much controversy when people are automatically called anti-semites and face all sorts of defamation and censorship if they express any negative opinion about jews, it can be as simple as questioning wether the holocaust was distorted or not.

The billboard on that truck could have read "Look, my licence plate is a racist message!" and I would have never, ever, figured it out.

I have to say: That guy`s truck is peaceful protest.

My guardian marched with MLK in DC but, if that guy loses his plate then, this country has lost some first amendment.

Erm, but wait.

The clue isn`t any of that... the clue is it is a PERSONALIZED license plate.

I don`t go get a personalized license plate of random numbers and letters... or do I not get how applying for license plates work in the states?

So I guess anyone having `88`, `CV`, `14` or anything else that could ever be interpreted as `suspicious` is screwed and gets their plates taken away.

That would include anyone named Clyde Vernon with the birthday of 1-4-88, That decided to get a special license plate.

Just saying, If you look hard enough, You can interpret anything as a threat. Anyone remember preachers playing records backwards looking for satanic messages ?

censoring something so cryptic is kinda pointless, especially on that monstrosity...agreed. however, i`m glad that they did, bc it shows the creep for what he truly is: an ignorant hate monger

He has the right to say almost anything he wants, put whatever he wants on his vehicle. License Plates are NOT his (which is why it must be approved) it , as been said before, is and belongs to the state he gets it from. If you put that on a government owned object, it makes them look bad (worse) then they already appear <_<

@ManicRapture: No it isn`t. The government has a right to speak similar to our own. You do not own your license plate, the government does. The government has a constitutional right to say or not to say certain messages. Simple constitutional law. Don`t believe me? Google ""government speech" protected"

I can understand the DMV not wanted to code license plates with anything that would be offensive, and if you just got done defending your thesis on obscure neo-nazis codes, this would definitely be offensive to you. On the other hand, this sounds like just another attempt to promote censorship of anything perceived as critical of Islam. I wonder if the ACLU would be interested in taking this guy`s case if he tried to dispute it in court.

isn`t the point of censoring the plates so that people driving by won`t be offended? I highly doubt anyone would be offended by a cryptic message that they don`t understand. honestly, I don`t think anyone is even looking at the plates...

As a person of Arabian descent, I was offended by the picture, but I don`t think what the DMV did was right.

He has the right to express himself freely, it didn`t please me to know what he thought, but freedom of speech is his right.

C`mon, whatever happened to: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

I`d by OK with that sentiment if it change "Islam" to "Religion". As far as the stupid bigoted mystery plate- If it`s that cryptic, does it really matter? It`s like saying "12354" has a secret meaning that is evil!

I know that the article is about the license plate, but I can`t help but find it funny that they`re dwelling over the obscure plate number and passingly mention the gigantic anti-islamic vinyl on his truck.
