I have worked in the entertainment industry most of my life, i have worked with models of all types & honestly i shun who ever has a problem with her. The real victoria`s secret models are REALLY ugly in person they dont look how they do in tv or with out make up. they spend hours in make up & hair, just for that look. plus size models already look good people dont always want to spend much on them yet for a size 0 they go all out. i have much respect for REAL women like her & I, the reason she was shunned was because she was REAL not fake sorry but america is FAT look at the reality everything is fast serve & ready to go what people dont know is where its from & the effects.. but im not getting into that.. i want to find this models name & say Let me take you out to a fun walk & then dinner..
I fail to see how this is worse than any other lingerie commercial...
It`s no worse than other lingerie commercials that also weren`t allowed to be aired before 9 p.m.

It wasn`t treated any differently to other lingerie commercials that also focused on the breasts of a beautiful woman.

Great publicity for the bra company, though. Which is why I think they did it deliberately, knowing full well that it would be treated the same way as other similar commercials, i.e. only allowed after 9 p.m.

I don`t care who you are or what size clothes you wear, it`s amazing that body size effects the way our media runs things.

I`m a skinny girl, I was told I probably won`t ever have to worry about being overweight. And yet i completely agree that being bony and skinny should NEVER be a standard for ANYONE. Curvy girls are beautiful IF they are comfortable in their own skin, as are skinny girls. I`m constantly offended by this "skinny girls are a bag of bones" trash as much as the curvy girls are offended by the non-use of a slightly voluptuous girl in VS ads and fashion. Forget about it, you may be missing out on getting to know a good person.

"in actuality, women feel better by seeing the thin models then beautiful plus sized women. Seems backwards but if u think about it then it makes sense because they dont see themselves as beautiful when being heavy but when they see people who are beautiful and on the heavy side then i can see where they get upset. "
And yet there was a fashion magazine that did a size issue not to long ago where they showed a typical model and a more voluptuous model in the same outfit and pose to show you dont always need the hyper skinny models to fully show off the clothes. The point? There were a lot of people who initially didnt see a difference between the two people.

Funny thing is, while she`s hot, majority of the women who shop in Lane Bryant are between a size 18-22. How do I know this? I shop there, and those are typically the sizes that are sold out. Hmmm...

don`t insult victoria secret models by calling them skeletons and implying that its such a horrible thing being size 0. unlike this chick, VS models are disciplined - they eat healthy, sacrifice, exercise, and generally take care of their themselves. as a result, their hard work is rewarded by having amazing bodies.

you think its empowering seeing people like you, who are on the heavy side, in lingerie ads? you should strive to be better - that`s what you should take away from VS ads. that`s the problem with ads like this. they say "its ok to be a few pounds overweight, unlike those skinny VS sluts". and that`s close to what so many of you have already said.

and don`t forget, being fat already embodies 2 of the 7 deadly sins, glutonny and sloth. REPENT!

I see that someone did bother to find out what actually happened - Oystah.

So it was just a timing issue. The ad was considered too sexual to be shown before 9pm, the bra company wanted it shown before then.

Maybe the bra company was clever enough to deliberately break the advertising restrictions that they knew the TV company applied to everyone, in order to generate a vast amount of victim-power and publicity. Like the suffragette policy of assaulting policemen in order to get arrested for the same purpose, but less extreme.

This is just PR touchdown - Lane Bryant wanted this spot aired between 8 and 9 p.m. and bought the time during American Idol for it. The network only allows commercials like this and Victoria Secret to air after 9 and they told them they couldn`t buy the spot `cuz it had to come on after nine. Lane Bryant got their thong in a tangle and took the haters against fat chicks route. It had nothing to do with plus size anything. It`s just a media frenzy hype crazy fat bashing thing.

@bomb_tom ads promoting unhealthy lifestyles should be banned from TV, like smoking, being fat, etc...

these do not promote being fat, its promoting loving yourself for who you are. Just because not all women are a size 0, doesn`t mean we need to have absolutely no sex appeal. Seeing a commercial like that makes me feel empowered. I am glad to see that in the discussion you`re probably one of the only men here to actualy think that this is a bad thing. It means that you`re the only superficial one here.

Thank you TV Execs for perpetuating the myth that only thin women are beautiful. Bet those execs are crusty old pot-bellied men that cheat on their wives with barely legal-aged women...Larry King style. God knows, broadcasting sex scandals are WAY less offensive than this Lane Bryant ad (wish there were a sarcasm font to type that with).

These women are not `fat` in any way, shape or form. Larger than what most consider model material, but I do not see flabby swinging bellies overlapping the underpants or anything. People are so skewed to think that any amount of flesh beyond the bare minimum to cover your skeleton and internal organs = fat.

I think its totally unfair for networks to ban this commercial. if they want to censor commercials about lingerie for larger women than they must do so with small women. As a larger woman, I find it offensive that the impression that`s being given off is my body cannot be appreciated like a thin woman`s should be.

Forget plus size this and my girlfriend would hit that - you guys are barking up the wrong tree.

Maybe they didn`t want to promote the idea that this is how a woman should approach her average lunch-date (the implication being that this `Dan` must be somebody she wants to get in bed with - and that`s how she`s chosen to go about it). Maybe they felt it `debases` women by suggesting that this one`s only chance at impressing her suitor would be through a reduction to blatant sex-appeal.

How is this more acceptable than Vicky`s Secret models? The shot where they show her stomach isn`t even the same girl. Why? Because even the girl in the ad doesn`t have the body she is supposed to be promoting.

my prediction to why networks didn`t want to show it: It gives men the impression fat girls will throw themselves at you if you ask them out to lunch.

pomunium, you`re right, rail-thin is real too (as long as someone was naturally born that way, and is healthy), but the fact is, that is ALL we see in the media. Just rail-thin women.

We`re not against these women, we`re against the media for putting only them in ads because not everyone looks like them. Hell, even these women don`t look like themselves thanks to photoshop.

This lack of variety is causing serious problems in North America, because it gives people an unattainable body image to strive for, and is causing much body dissatisfaction amongst youth-especially female youth.

I think what the man was censoring was the fact that she was leaving to her "friend`s" place in nothing but an overcoat and lingerie. "So some ABC and Fox retards only think skinny whores are beautiful? wow so many shallow people in this world that chick was drating sexy."
That`s not the point she walked out with nothing on but a coat and the lingerie.

Agreeing with your sarcasm overkill I mean come on they have Victoria secret commercials with women wearing just as little.

I see no problem, plus that model is gorgeous.

I don`t get it... Isn`t it kind of what all lingerie ads are? Except with more talking and less flashing lights and crazy music?

and how is this different from any Victoria`s Secret commercial? Not counting the fact that it is a (gorgeous) plus size woman?

I don`t understand the controversy here.... Can someone please explain what was wrong with this commercial to me? Because I REALLY don`t get it.

a fuller figured woman wearing less than a tent...thats enough reason to censor it! any woman above a size 6 isnt sexy after all c`mon everyone knows that!! jeez fox and abc were just lookin out for all the men by filling this ad space with a more acceptable victorias secret ad with the exact same narration and poses.

I am very offended!!! how dare a commercial show a woman in lingerie that is not 5 foot 11 and weight 90 pounds /Sarcasm

No different than any other lingerie commercial, except that the model in this commercial is a better representation for a "more average/typical" woman.

Not offended. It didn`t show any more than a Victoria`s Secret ad, and I`m pretty sure that while it was sexy, it wasn`t too sexual. Less raunchy sexy than Victoria`s Secret, but not bad.

Nothing wrong with it. The only thing i see that maybe set off the prudes at the station was that her boobs were a little bigger than you see victorias secret models having.
