We"ve always thought this too, but never thought it was our place to put it in these words...

Technically, they`re not at war either. Congress hasn`t voted to declare war since June 5, 1942.

DFWBrysco` Beyond that, aseirinn you`re fighting a losing debate - you are trying to apply the old "who`s ultimately responsible for death" discussion and there is no winner in that.`

aseirinn; I simply wished to make the point that, alot of Americans think they are at `war` therefore `war` was declared...It wasn`t; what does `war on terror` mean?, this has no legitmate meaning...it`d be like saying `war on evil`. it makes no sense because what is `evil`?, `Terrorism`?. It`s an ambiguous statement, a simplified statement to make an illegitimate illegal invasion seem legitimate to the masses...Que `Photo of Obama in Cammies`, odd that?...has he visited yet?

Wish they`d hurry up and install they`re `puppet, western friendly government` and leave...then the Iraqis can start to rise up to overthrow it...

Who cares if its a war zone or not. That`s a marine. That statement could have been written on any random classroom wall and still be true. In fact, look at that great penmanship and grammar!

Sarcasm, mockery, and bitterness makes a fine paste of cruelty and heartlessness.

I actually made a reference to something, care to guess what it was?

Splurby: "I noticed that it "looks" like the Marine in the background is in green cammies.(Maybe the light is distorting it) If so, this was written in garrison, which is to say, not a warzone, otherwise the Marine would be in desert cammies. Just thought I would add this."

It is just the light. He is in Deserts and they are in Garrison. That`s def. a barracks room.

Reading the comments I realize it`s totally true what we say. Only a Marine can understand another Marine.

This writing is through another Marines` perspective. The person that wrote it most definitely wanted to simply say that the rest of America for the most part stands very detached to this on going war and are too busy being consumers to fully understand or even care what is really happening there.

Furthermore, there is not a Marine out there who has not had to work close with other branches and who, aside from the playful jabs at other branches, truly appreciates their brothers and sisters in arms and what they do.

I think that while this writing gives a general concensuis among our fighting men and women, the mentality that they have nobody to rely on but themselves is probably what helps them stay alive in combat. You certainly aren`t there to help them.

@Smagboy1 - Sorry, aseirinn is right in one respect - war was never "declared" on Iraq; only Congress has the ability to declare a war. The last declared war was WWII.

This expensive debacle we are in now was only classified by Congress as a "Military Engagement" by SJ Res. 23 (Afghanistan and al-Qaeda) and HJ Res. 114 for Iraq.

Beyond that, aseirinn you`re fighting a losing debate - you are trying to apply the old "who`s ultimately responsible for death" discussion and there is no winner in that.

Furthermore, it`s not just your Marine Corps fighting out there. There are USAF, there are Army. I guess you have to live it to understand it. Also, if you think this fighting is useless, I guess you would rather just wait until they attack you at home....again. I agree the war on Iraq is not necessary, but the War in Afghanistan is. And Obama`s administration has noticed this and is taking the proper steps in fixing the problem.

As a member of the Canadian forces, with friends overseas fighting, I cannot bear the thought of those people being forgotten in their moments of need.

So, what this says to me is that the people dying, fighting FOR your drating country aren`t Americans...

drating disgusting and anti-patriotic. You don`t have to agree with the war, but support your drating troops.

Oh, aseirinn, the last administration was very clear that this is WAR on TERROR! And it was declared. Now, whether you buy into that bull-poo, or recognize that it had a lot more to do with oil and contractors and the military industrial complex is up to you. But Shrub`s administration made it quite clear. We`re at war with the terrorists! And if we back down, they win! Or something.

No worries, Samidoll... This is an open discussion, so we are all free to say our peace. I took no offense. In fact, I appreciate when people come with their sides on things. Intelligence is a splendid thing, and having intelligent views from both sides is what makes discussions like these interesting.

The Few. The Arrogant. The Marines.

I guess the Navy, Air force, and Army just sit around and play grab ass all day. Not to mention the Intelligence communities etc.etc. at home keeping the douche who wrote that alive.

Well, in any case, someone has to take care of their wives while they`re over seas ;)

@Samidoll, I`m former military. Army medic to be exact... I know the difference between being on the field and at home. I personally would rather have been on the field than being at home having to pray and hope.

And I agree with what was said. Prayer is a means of fooling yourself into believing that you did something to help. You want to help? Send care packages. Better yet... Grab a gun and join the fight. "Talking to God on the soldiers` behalf" isn`t gonna stop bullets, or stop guys from getting killed by IEDs. As a former soldier, allow me to say it here. Feel free to pray, because its appreciated. But don`t try to tell us you`re helping in doing so. There are far more productive ways of helping.

Lawl. Sounds like someone hasn`t looked into the studies showing prayer has a negative effect when known, and has no effect when not known. How about you do them a REAL favor and send them care packages?
"In another of the study`s findings, a significantly higher number of the patients who knew that they were being prayed for — 59 percent — suffered complications"

Mayby because Bush messed up things so badly that if Obama pulled yout troops out, just like if we pulled out ours, it would cause more damage than good!

The cold hard fact is, the war, that Bush so happily led the West into, should never have happened!

As YEPIMBORED said, not one person that is fighting for this country were drafted. Every single person volunteered for it and i am one of those few who were not afraid to do so. And for those who keep saying "I paid for it with my taxes," i don`t see any of you complaining when you get your tax return in the mail or when you get a stimulus check. So i don`t want to hear anyone else say they are tired of paying for this war cause you have paid in no way!! Yea you have family members and friends over there but who doesn`t??

To all the Bush haters- I haven`t seen Obama bringing the troops home. In fact, isn`t he continuing the effort in Afghanistan and inserting more troops? Where`s the outrage at that? Oh, I see, your boy sends people to die and it`s justified. I got it. Also- no one was drafted for this war. If you sign on the dotted line, don`t bitch when the country calls for you. If all you wanted was a paycheck- there (use to be) jobs that didn`t involve bullets and explosions. Seriously- thank you to all who serve regardless of the underlying reason. Love the military, hate the war.

I am hard at work providing needed services to this country...SERVING MY COUNTRY every day that I get up and go to work. I am also providing WAY to much of my damn paycheck in taxes to to pay the huge military budget we have currently.

Not to mention I have plenty of family in the military (in iraq). The idea that when our military goes to war the rest of the country goes to the mall is insulting...AMERICA is at war and many of us that never stepped foot in the middle east have already paid far too high a price in terms of lost loved ones...I respect those that serve but to belittle us because we are not there is not right when we are here giving up our family members, time and money to make it possible for those serving in the armed forces able to do so.
