The combine, xen, they like conquering and assimilating people, the combine advisors, yes, global resistance, yes.
WOW THAT WAS HARD.
What freaking storyline?
Who are the aliens? Where are they from? What is their motive in attacking Earth? Who`s commanding them? Are there other races? Is there a global resistance, or just in City 17? Is anywhere on Earth not under Combine control?
People seem to confuse a lack of story with concise story. I`m a big fan of HL2 and Portal, but their stories are simply whatever absolute minimum of silent-protagonist exposition is necessary to get you from point A to point B while killing/portaling along the way. That`s it.
There`s no character development at all. The only character you ever learn about is GlaDOS. You felt bad for killing the companion cube because GlaDOS tells you that you abandoned it, and how it was your only friend.
Portal has some of the most compelling character development"
Thats when the fail happened and its where i stopped reading
Portal has some of the most compelling character development I`ve ever seen in a game. Any game that can make you actually upset (and I really was sad) to destroy an inanimate cube is a triumph of game design. Plus it has fantastic black humour, a perfect learning curve, simple game mechanics but with incredible room for complexity and innovation.
The Half-Life series practically invented the concept of cinematic-style storytelling in games, and in particular HL2 has the greatest storyline I have ever encountered in any game, along with some of the most beautiful level design ever.
Seriously, the one thing these games are not is over-rated.
Not so fun after all...
I enjoyed Portal, but it was too short, hopefully the next one`s longer.
