The only problem I ever had with the N64 controller was trying to get the cheat menu on Shadows of the Empire. That was a major pain when no one would help! But it could be done by only one person.

with a little tinkering the 64 controller serves as a smoking pipe better than it ever did as a gaming controller

The N64 one was certainly the most un-ergonomic device ever.

N64=alien technology that was never intended for the human public. i think it was secretly made for a hybrid gamer alien breed that has 2.5 hands

"The Snes cotroller is, by far, the best. Simple and comfortable."

almost...the NES Bone was the simplest and matched the SNES`s comfort level

"Nintendo officially exhausts the limits of button cramming technology"...by creating a controller with 2 buttons fewer than the previous incarnation?
In fact the gamecube controller had 2 fewer buttons than the original playstation controller (discounting joysticks, D-pad = 4 buttons), it just had an odd layout.
And to be honest, I prefer the gamecube one to any of the others, those weird hyperbolic paraboloid shoulder buttons were pretty good, though I`m not sure I ever used the D-pad, and rarely the C-stick.

I think the N64 controller was great for FPS games second only to a mouse. The Gamecube has got to be one of the most hideous looking controlers ever except PS3s upcoming motion controler. As for motion controlers taking over I doubt it I personally hate them and find that most people who love them have never played games much before and find pushing buttons difficult. That and the games the use them usually suck.

Actually the colored controllers were mainly released to europe. The purple and grey were the famicom design which was more prevalent in japan and usa.

I personally always thought the N64 controller was one of the more comfortable controllers in gaming history...

Except for those damn minigames in the first couple Mario Party games. You know the ones I`m talking about. You probably still have the imprint from the N64 joystick scarred onto your palm, too.

I still feel they failed majorly when it came to Zelda for the Wii...just imagine swinging the sword with the nunchucks, just epic.

I like how the Wii remote plus Nunchuk has one more button than the Gamecube controller, yet is more simplistic than the Gamecube controller. Though the Wii remote lacks a second stick, but adds movement.

Actually, I really like the 64 controller. You can switch from analog stick and Z to D-Pad and R. For the longest time, I felt more comfortable using it than the Gamecube/PS/Xbox controller.

Wow, I skipped pretty much all of those. We had the first one (which is older than me...) until it was 18-20 years old and it died. Then I got a playstation and an Xbox, and now I have a Wii. I`ve never even seen those other controllers.

anyone that doesnt know how to use an N64 controller never saw an N64. 95% of all games did not use the far left portion, and the 5% that did were really bad games no one should own anyway. granted the design is rather odd as that whole section of the controller was useless and thus shouldnt have been there at all, but it was not in the least bit confusing to anyone that ever played an N64 or saw one being played.

Technically the Wii controller`s as complicated as the Gamecube one... It`s just that not all games use all the buttons.

tbh i loved the N64 controller design, sat well in my hands, was easy to use and the ability to plug stuff into it was nice also (gameboy on big screen, rumble pack etc.)
definate most hated controller of all time for me was the original PS2 controller, damned thing was too small and really uncomfortable to use for me

I recently got the 360, after being a dedicated Nintendo fan for years. I got to say, the GC controller was a bit more fluid to use IMO, but I`ll admit that it couldn`t hope to compete in FPS games without the second joystick that its competitors embraced. However, because of the relative consistency with the button configuration (the freakin` big A was the primary button for most games, b is to cancel selection, x and y toggled equipment/weapon) it was easier to pick up a GC game and start playing. (I know I just compared two different generations...sue me).

And the gamecube, xbox and ps controllers are all pretty similar if you look at them.

isn`t there an SNES controller for the Wii? I know gamecube controllers work on it, but don`t they sell one that looks JUST like the SNES?

btw, SNES controller paved the way for PS controller who xbox copied yet did a worse job. in short, nintendo has made video games what they are today, soon all systems will instigate the wave poo at the screen approach.
