no using a hang glider is the closest you can get to flying

falling out of a plane isn`t flying, its falling. Flying a plane is the closet you can get to flying.

"Well like the guy below me said, it was a jump by a staff sergeant, so it is probably one of those H.A.L.O military jumps meaning he jumped at a very high altitude and is going to parachute at a low altitude."

Most sports skydives - even tandems - are HALO jumps, they aren`t super special unless they occur above 14,000 feet or so where supplemental oxygen is required.

I believe that the airman was the passenger while Diablopilot was the tandem instructor. Diablopilot has something like 10,000 skydives in his logbook.

"Um, you could always just fly in a plane."

There`s a saying in skydiving: "If riding in an airplane is flying, then riding in a boat is swimming. If you want to experience the element, then get out of the vehicle."

"How high up is this? To see those types of clouds from above, it had to be at 25,000 feet or above?"

High in the sky above Lompoc, California, a freefalling Staff Sgt. Eric Thompson planned his skydive to coincide with the June 7 liftoff of a Delta 2 rocket from Vandenberg Air Force Base.

Cool pic... first thought it was the shuttle going up but quickly realized that NASA would never let a plane that wasn`t theirs anywhere near the launch site.. hell, they don`t even like it when its cloudy

Radio: "I say again, small vehicle on vertical downward trajectory, you are in Restricted Airspace, missiles have been launched..."

Skydiver: "Oh poo!!"

@StarDagger
What??? That is NOT the space shuttle, not in a million years.

Do you have any idea about the flight restrictions, Class F zone, etc etc etc there is around cape canaveral? Easpecially on launch days?

PLus, it`s way to small to be the Space Shuttle. If it was, this would be they would be jumping from 60 to 70 thousand feet. Yeah, that does not happen out of the millitary and NASA.

And then agan, they wouldn`t do at cape canaveral on a launch day.

You sir, fail.

Lets look at these pictures:
http://www.snopes.com/photos/space/shutt...

Looks similar, yes, but, lets look for an explaination:
http://www.skywise711.com/misc/WB57/WB57...

There is NO plane which opens a hatch at 70 thousand feet to let people sky dive Over cape anaveral on a Space Shuttle Launch date. It doesn`t ha
