"i actually though that black swans had the highest rate of homosexuality of any animal: one in four pairs of swans are same sex."

That may be so... but swans aren`t mammals :)

Oh, and after reading through a few comments... Edward isn`t perfect by any means. It was stated before, in some previous post, that the only reason girls who read the book clung to him is because he was ideal-flawless.

As in he was described with the word beautiful in every sentence, but the traits themselves were left as a blank page for the reader to draw upon (and thus match this "perfect" character with an image they find suit)

If this is a reference to Twilight, then I`m disappointed in the fact that they`re willing to say he has any similarities to -real- vampires.

I haven`t seen these movies or read this book. But it appears to me that men/boys seem to protest a little too much when it comes to the Edward character. Face it, you`ll never have the charisma of such a character. Jealousy sucks for you.

"You`re in your 30`s, I should hit you with a stick. Edward is the vampire who sparkles when sunlight strikes him in Twilight."

Ok, I`m kinda confused with this... You`re going to hit him with a stick because he`s in his 30s and doesn`t know what Twilight is? Heck, I only wish I didn`t know what Twilight was.

Anyways, it`s been documented in at/over/around 1500 animal species practice homosexual sex.

"the animal kingdom is still not a good place to look for rationale of anything."

Well said. In fact animals are more cruel, In some instances, Than most humans.

I believe that is because of the innate sense that humans beings know right from wrong and because of a nearly universal human belief in an afterlife. These innate senses are a common thread through most religions with a few exceptions.

bob: Genocide –noun The deliberate and systematic extermination of a national, racial, political, or cultural group.

All humans are of the same species, So your definition is a bit faulty.

Almightybob1,

You`ve got it all wrong. It`s a shame that I can`t post links, but there have been documented cases of chimps hunting down and killing entire neighboring groups. Genocide does not require total destruction or that the destruction be perpetrated against another species.

Ants are an even better example. I looked up "ants warfare" in google and the first result I got, from LiveScience, was called "Genocide Rules Ant Warfare".

Look this stuff up before you post...

nath, i hope your joking. bats arent blind at all, in fact they see perfectly in the light. they just use echo location because they are nocturnal animals and cannot see at night.

"Torture - name an animal (other than homo sapiens) that deliberately inflicts pain on other animals for its own amusement or pleasure."

dolphins.

Suicide - There`s a bridge somewhere that dogs quite habitually throw themselves off. Some domestic animals refuse to eat at the loss of their owner or large changes.
Rape - I`m sorry, what? Animals rape quite regularly, if one animal is visibly disturbed by the encounter then it is rape.
Torture - Dolphins have been observed chasing, killing and then playing with the bodies of other animals. No food involved. Just killing because they can.

Regardless, the animal kingdom is still not a good place to look for rationale of anything.

Xenophobia - Again, a human concept which cannot really be applied to animals. They fear predators higher up the food chain, but that kind of fear is not what xenophobia is.
Torture - name an animal (other than homo sapiens) that deliberately inflicts pain on other animals for its own amusement or pleasure. (NB - hunting techniques which you personally consider "cruel" through your own squeamishness are inadmissible.)
Nature also supports genocide, homicide, suicide, rape, theft, xenophobia, and torture. Never look to mother nature as a rationale for anything.
Really.
Genocide - name an animal (other than homo sapiens) that has ever deliberately hunted another species to extinction through hatred of said species. (NB - accidental hunting to extinction for food is inadmissible.)
Homicide - is defined as a human killing a human. Makes no sense to refer to it as "found in nature". If you mean an animal killing a member of its own species, then yes this does occasionally happen in some species, but almost never in social animals.
Suicide - name an animal (other than homo sapiens) that deliberately takes its own life.
Rape - the concept of consent is a human one. Animals cannot give or refuse consent to each other.
Theft - Again, this does happen within the animal kingdom, but almost never in social species.

Natural? Natural isn`t a defense of homosexuality. Nature also supports genocide, homicide, suicide, rape, theft, xenophobia, and torture. Never look to mother nature as a rationale for anything.
