Yeah, scientology is a big whore of a disgusting brain washing scam. people who believe in it are absolutely disgusting pigs... like most members of most organized religions.

My only problem with Scientology is the level of brainwashing involved. Any religion that is abusive is wrong. But if people want to believe in unicorns, aliens or multidimensional ducks, it`s not my business. Let them be happy.

I`m officially starting the Church of Lionhart right here, right now. Tax-deductible donations can be sent to me c/- Third Pipe From Left, Male Toilets, Flinders St Station. The basic doctrinal stance of the Church will be: anything is alright as long as I get some of it.

All religions are cults relative to some other religion.

Try to define "cult."
Try to define "religion."
Now try to examine your religion from your perception of outsiders` perspective at the time it began.

One Roman to the other: "Hey! Did you hear about the new cult? Mostly, they used to be Jews, now they call themselves Christians."
The other to the one: "Yeah, you mean all those kooks who are following that guy telling the slaves they should `turn the other cheek?` (which actually means `Make them treat you with the same respect they give their own family.`) He`s disrupting the peace! Someone should make an example of that nut!"

Old L.Ron Hubbard made Scientology on bet, and won that bet to make 10 people believe in his made up religion. And now look at it, if it weren`t for all the booze and drugs the guy took, he would`ve been a very wealthy man.

The reason Scientology cannot be touted at the same level as Christianity or Islam or Judaism is because it is based off of a book whose author even admitted was science-fiction and it`s cult-like doctrines. That`s not to say that traditional religions like Christianity are true (because I don`t think so in the slightest), but at least there`s some ambiguity and mystery to them which gives them the benefit of doubt. I can say with certainty that Scientology is bologna, but I`d have a difficult time saying that about Christianity. Also, it`s obvious that Scientology is a money-making organization, and should not be considered a religion, rather an industrious cult.

Your government disagrees with you, mluther. Personally I tend to agree with you, I think of it more as a cult. However, let`s not forget that all religions, including your own religion of Christianity, started out as cults.

The abuse perpetrated by Scientology is minuscule compared to the abuses of Christianity, Judaism and Islam. And how can any of you who believe in the myths of the latter three make fun of Scientology for being too far-fetched?

SKyira, I don`t liek those videos, because they don`t cite any reputable sources. The shock factor of the Lisa Mcpherson case... I don`t know. The embolism being cause by the accident seems likely to me. Negligence leading to death is totally possible, but it all seems fishy. I`m not saying I`m for the CoS, because I absolutely am not. I just don`t like scare tactics to make extreme points.

Oh please, KingDragon. Intelligence is a farce first of all. You can have all the brain power in the world and still become a Scientologist is basically what you`re telling me. It`s their depressive, or awkward social tendancies that drive them there? Doesn`t that seem counter intuitive? Intelligence shoud be measured in how effectively you function as a human being. drat that, Intelligence is immeasurable. You`ve obviously recently taken some sort of psych class. Who cares. You can`t be sympathetic all the time.

funny story i`ll share.. I used to do side jobs fixing peoples electronic devices, or building them custom circuits they needed. One day i get an e-mail from someone who says they want me to build them an olde tyme radio. They had all materials i just had to assemble the whole contraption. So this guy shows up and right away i can tell this things circuitry has nothing to do with a radio, and it actually didn`t do anything electronic wise. After assembling it i asked the person about it and he said it was an electrometer and i just played like i didn`t know what it was. 2 days later he calls me and says it`s not working like it should, and i proceded to get into an argument with this guy about how the device should function, he then started showing up randomly at my house and calling me every day asking if he could take readings with his meter... After about a month he left me alone
tldr: i met a crazy scientologist once

Mr. Hubbard came to the conclusion that they SCREAM when cut... what... the... hell... is that really someone you want have tell you how to live your life? The whole premise is crazy!

I didn`t say religion was bad.
I was explaining how people can get sucked into a cult without having the mental capacity of a spoilt pudding. If you say religion = bad, that`s fine. I didn`t.

Anyone who follows a religion that the creator is quoted as stating ...

"You don`t get rich writing science fiction. If you want to get rich, you start a religion."
Response to a question from the audience during a meeting of the Eastern Science Fiction Association on (7 November 1948), as quoted in a 1994 affidavit by Sam Moskowitz.

...gets what they deserve.

(cont) ... catching people at the right time in their lives such as when they`re depressed or frustrated or just lonely. The idea is that what the new church is offering is like a breath of fresh air and it`s why so many people find themselves joining- at which point they get tangled in the society and culture and find it difficult to leave.

In the article for example, one man said he had to leave his wife, sister, brother, son and daughter in order to get out of the Church. It should take a lot for anyone to want to leave their whole family behind.

"Anyone who falls into the CoS deserves what they get. How could you not see through that thin disguise. It was a religion invented for a bet. People are totally retarded."

From this story it implies that many of the new memeber are born into it as opposed to choosing for themselves- no different to being raised Catholic for not being taught anything else.

Another point to make is that simply insulting members just isn`t appropriate. I`m not saying I agree in anyway, Im saying that insults aren`t the right way to deal with it. For people who do join (any cult) they`ll easily gain friends there as it`s part of the society that comes with it. Insults at that point only drive people further into their religion, cause then they aren`t jsut defending their faith, but their friends and family too.

Many people who join cults tend to be of average or above intellegence, the reason for this is because cults like this spend lots of time and effort into catching people at the rig

funny thing is when I talk about my ex-wife I don`t have stories like, forced abortions, extorting money from me (well maybe that part LOL) and trying to kill me, keep me seperated from family, etc.

so, realyl I dont see that ahole CoS point when he compares a defector to an embittered ex. most pissed off ex`s can still think of a couple good things to say about their ex...not so in the defectors case it seems.

@cobra, you are incorrect, Scientology is legally recognized as a tax-exempt religion in the United States. Correct or not, the US gov recognizes it as a religion. For that matter, so is the church of the flying spaghetti monster. Does that make ir right? no, but at least the FSM never stated that he killed every living thing on the planet like the jebus` father did.

Someone oughta make a movie about scientology. It`s perfect material. It`s the classic cultish institution that gets people involved, abuses them, and then denies everything when people escape. I find it amusing how they think people are going to believe them over hundreds of defectors, all saying the exact same things.

"She said the defectors’ stories were like what you would hear “if I asked your ex-husband what he thought of you.”"
An ex-husband who beats, abuses, humiliates and steals money from you.

"“It’s so not news,” she said. “It’s a big yawn, actually.” "
Denial as always. CoS honestly thinks it`s invincible.

The CoS is the worst kind of scum and I`d love to see these bastards locked up for life for causing so much pain just for money. It`s not a religion, just one giant con for power and greed. They are well and truly evil.
