well i prefer frosting not to sweet on cake and sometimes cake is better than pie and pie is sometimes better than cake. My point is cake and pie are the same things. and cake is the unhalthy verson, and pie is the healthier verson. However to this artical....i dont think ive ever seen a birthday pie to be honest, and i dont think ive seen christmas pie or halloween cake.

I agree that pie is better, but to me, the best part is the crust. And I hate cake frosting. Don`t know why I`m opposite most people.

Pie is the best overall. So many kinds. So many flavors. Pot pie for dinner, lunch, ...breakfast....
Apple pie, pumpkin pie, peach pie, cherry pie not so much, blueberry pie, Pi, and according to Answers.com, there is over 12,000 different registered kinds of pie in the Northern Hemisphere. You can not beat that.

Cake is... eh... There is chocolate and vanilla as the two base flavors. I don`t eat it anyways since most contain dairy/eggs. Actually, the last time I had cake was my last birthday. It was friggin yummy though. I`ve never had a cake that tasted better than that vegan one did...

But anyways, pies all the way. (:

xmastree ph, meat pie is nasty crap. almost any other kind of pie is delicious.

sporks rule, good job at taking the best part of both out of the equation. cakes are nothing but a sponge without the frosting, and what kind of pies do you like without fruit?

I agree with everything said in this post. Although wtf? frosting is not the good part of cake. Especially in store bought cake. Store bought cake frosting is practically poison.

Fruit pies suck. Non fruit pies are yummy. Frosting (unless super sweet) on cake sucks. The cake is yummy.

But this person does not actually like cake, just frosting. So the argument doesn`t really work.

Thank you for the correction xmasstree_ph.

I quote the first sentence of your Wikipedia link,

"A mince pie (sometimes also minced, minced meat, or mincemeat pie) is a British festive sweet pastry, traditionally consumed during the Christmas and New Year period."

Note the terms in parentheses please.

Now, you may well argue that because it`s a British dish it should be called by British terminology. However, one could also argue that because the Belgians `discovered` fried potatoes and named them Freiten (meaning fries) than you have no right calling them chips.

But your correction may be rooted in the fact that the mince pies of today do not contain actual meat in them, as was the case in the 15th-17th centuries. My terminology in this case would be a culinary fallacy. An offense to gourmands everywhere, though technically, according to Wikipedia and a few cookbooks, it`s still acceptable to use the archaic appellation.

Lastly, I am sorry for making such a big deal out of this. Truth be told, I don`t really care what it`s called but at the moment I am simply and most irrevocably bored. out. of. my. f*cking. skull.

Unfortunately, this man is entirely wrong. His logic is flawed and I can blast him away with a cake-chart of evidence.

The problem is he compared with that disgusting factory-looking cake. That`s not a real cake dammit!

You aren`t good enough for real cake!

I don`t like pie too much, because it`s too gooey. the only kind I really like is pumpkin.

And I never eat the frosting on my cake. Why should I ruin a perfectly wonderful, beautiful, spongy cake with bitter, rich, loaded-with-sugar frosting? This guy needs to get his facts straight, and for the love of god stop trying to rip off the oatmeal. Geez.

it seems to be the europeans who have a problem with christmas pie. look, ill take a nice pumpkin, chocolate, apple, cherry, or any other kind of pie on christmas than a log of crap with undistinguishable "fruit" placed throughout it.

I`m not disputing the conclusion, but whoever made the charts is clearly too young. The frosting is not the best part of cake unless you`re like 5 years old and still crave sugar, and the crust is the best part of pie, not the meh part.

Regarding #5, hasn`t the writer heard of Christmas
cake? I`ve never heard of Christmas pie.

Also, with #1, good cake lasts longer than good pie.

I like pie, but cake wins. :D

also wanted to point out, apparently that guy has never had good moist cake with little icing. with good cake, the cake IS the dessert, the icing is just...well topping :)

first off, you can`t eat pie on your birthday, thats just weird, but I agree pie is more versatile than cake for dessert. you can eat pie for dinner desert, but if you serve cake people want to know the occasion.

secondly, why did they have to be Dane Cook mixed with Demetri Martin? I can stand the latter, but the fact that they had to keep saying frak/drat/whatever you want to filter it to, was killing the article

Pie is also much more diverse. One could have quiche for breakfast, spanakopita for lunch (which could apply as either a pastry or a pie depending on the preparation), chicken pot pie for dinner and a tart for dessert.

Once cake gets savory it`s called a quick bread.

Cake fails

Pie is more relevant at Christmas than cake?
Christmas cake, hell yeah!
Christmas pie, WTF?

i was on the side of pie from the beginning but they made some points that were not necessarily true at the end. you have just as much of a chance of getting diabetes from eating too much pie (depends on the kind, some have more sugar than others) as you do form eating cake (also depends on the kind). also, there are already pies with frosting on them, so that is not a new idea and it is delicious.
