No, the only way to justify the price of the mac is that it`s the price at which Apple makes a maximum profit- the same way to justify the price of just about any good on the free market. If people weren`t willing to buy Macs at the current price, the price would go down.

And I may I suggest my tactic of staying ~2-3 years behind the pace of technology? Drasticly reduced prices for the same buzz when you upgrade.

Similarly, the article does not say you can buy a 26MB HD for 7 cents today. It says you can buy a 1TB HD for $75, which is about 7 cents per GB.

I love the latest technology, but I still like to go back and see where it all came from.
Its not good news, it means that a few years from now you`ll be kicking yourself seeing today`s products on sale for 1/3 of what you`d spent.
