"SO the only way to justify the price of the mac is to compare it to a product released 30 years ago. well done."

No, the only way to justify the price of the mac is that it`s the price at which Apple makes a maximum profit- the same way to justify the price of just about any good on the free market. If people weren`t willing to buy Macs at the current price, the price would go down.

Look, they`re trying, ok, it`s not their fault they`re relying on a picture of a half eaten fruit alone... :`(

very good point nidonemo. whilst the price for technologies decreases in comparison to the past, the price of neccesities increases with inflation and taxes so it isnt all that great, we can afford to keep in contact with the cyber world, but the real world costs us more, but still the cost of living is worth more than the cost of death :D

@duckflash
they DON"T cost more now. it`s taking into account inflation and showing the equivalent in today`s money. like a loaf bread used to cost a nickel...but a week` pay was only around $40

We just got the 27" iMacs in my high school. Waiting so many years for new computers was so worth it.
I want to play WoW on them.

for the love of god! it`s only taking in account the change of money rates in modern days and apply them to the prices of electronics back then; factoring in inflation and etc. The value of money changes people, keep up. i`m looking at you duckflash, idiot.

Reminds me of those Prime Computer adverts from the 80`s. The ones with Tom Baker and Lala Ward. Where he asked her to marry him, and she was just like `Clever Prime!`
Thost adverts were really weird :-)

Macs do suck, why have a Tb of space if you can`t use it?

Why wouldn`t you be able to use it? I have a 1Tb external hard drive that`s full...

They said that about Gigabytes in the Nineties.

There was a report out in the UK ~1 month ago that also said we get our technology cheaper nowadays.

And I may I suggest my tactic of staying ~2-3 years behind the pace of technology? Drasticly reduced prices for the same buzz when you upgrade.

I paid $80 for my 1Tb Seagate.

Also, gorgack2000, learn to read.

gorgack2000, you didn`t read that article correctly. A 26MB HD cost $5000 in 1980. $193,000 is the price per gigabyte.

Similarly, the article does not say you can buy a 26MB HD for 7 cents today. It says you can buy a 1TB HD for $75, which is about 7 cents per GB.

Gorgack, learn to quote your sources.
A 26 mb hard drive cost $5000.00, which set the gigabyte at a rate of $193,000.00

In 1980, a 26MB hard-drive would set you back $193,000 (£125,387). I am not joking. That is not a typo. Imagine taking out a second mortgage to afford 26MB of space...

In comparison you can buy 26MB of storage now for $0.07/£0.04. Don`t believe me? Source: http://www.everyjoe.com/thegadgetblog/ha...

I love the latest technology, but I still like to go back and see where it all came from.

Its not good news, it means that a few years from now you`ll be kicking yourself seeing today`s products on sale for 1/3 of what you`d spent.

Hell that`s the case now with the whole Mac vs. everything else fiasco

hmm, the cost of most of the newer stuff when they were new to the market seems like it would be pretty close to the price of the old stuff no what im sayin
