This is EXACTLY my theory! They either ran out of rock (most likely) or since they all died off (do your history and you would know) they didn`t get to finish writing it all before hand.
The media had an orgasm over it
Davymid, what really happened was that the MSM sat on it for months, until the blogs made so much noise about it they couldn`t ignore it any longer. Then they suddenly found the time to talk about it.
The samples from the e-mails I`ve seen discussed can only be seen as data manipulation and supression of opposing data. The reason there`s tons of e-mails is that proves these aren`t faked. Also it`s highly likely the data was leaked, not hacked (a subtle but important difference).
I hope you`ll see this, if not, NP! My termite example is shakey, lolz! But the past centuries with much higher temps & no disasters is true. I can find the graphs if you`re really interested.

"Anyways, I`m done being trolled off-topic and I`m done trying to teach armchair scientists who think they know it all from some articles they read on the internet rather than listen to the scientific community. Laters. "

and yet...

"Ollie, that statement (hide the decline) was three words, meant nothing in the greater context of the email, and was blown out of all proportion by the media. Just like SARS was. Just like Avian Flu was. Just like Swine Flu was. The media had an orgasm over it, and made it into more than what it was. It was to do with tree-ring data disagreeing with contrary evidence form ice-cores, lake-bottom varves, isotopic analysis and other scientific measurements. Sure, there are uncertainties, that`s how science works. That statement was about those uncertainties, nothing else. "

Anyways, this thread is dead. I`ll explain in more detail on the next live debate.

On another note, I genuinely enjoy these debates, no animosity here from me to you. Long may it continue. Intended with a sense of friendliness and mutual respect.

"p.s. save the "climategate" bullsh*t, as they were a handful of scientifically insignificant, innocuous comments from 5 climatologists taken wildly out of context..."

Okay, Davy, tell us please, in what context can "hide the decline" be construed as anything other than blatant scientific fraud?

The Climategate emails simply confirmed what many of us have known for years: the peer-review process has been totally corrupted by a bunch of incestuous charlatans. The old "everybody agrees" bullpoo has had its run. The fact is, everybody does NOT agree. It`s just that skeptics can`t get their work published by the corrupt journals, so they have found other outlets.

Most people aren`t buying it anymore. The hucksters who have been raking in $millions and accumulating political power that would make Hitler blush have finally been exposed as liars and thieves. The wheels are coming off, Davy. I suggest you bail while you still have a reputation.

Maybe, maybe not. Sure, climate change is cyclical (despite Mr Comedy`s slandering ealier, I know a thing or two about it), what`s unprecedented now is the RATE of climate change. That`s why there is likely an anthropogenic component to our current climatic shift.

Anyways, I`m done being trolled off-topic and I`m done trying to teach armchair scientists who think they know it all from some articles they read on the internet rather than listen to the scientific community. Laters.

> 5Cats: "To imagine that humans are warming the earth is huberis in the extreme. Termite produce more greenhouse gasses than ALL of human activity."

---------------

Bullsh*t, lies, and conservative propaganda. Global emissions of methane due to termites are estimated to be between 20 and 29 Tg per year. Emissions of methane from human activity IN THE US ALONE is estimated at around 585 Tg per year. That would make it around 4% of human emissions (that`s just the US`s contribution, that number shrinks considerably taking in world emissions). NOT 600% the global level. Those are very different numbers.

Difference between your number and mine is that I can back mine up with an actual internationally respected scientific source (something I don`t see you climate change nay-sayers do very often). From the US EPA (Environmental Protection Agency). http://epa.go

4. The very FACT that scientists who work for oil companies are telling you global warming (or in a broader sense, climate change) is real should set those little alarm bells ringing in your tiny brain. If anyone should be deniers, it should be us.

5. I never once alluded to whether it was man-made or not. YOU put those bullsh*t words in my mouth. As it happens, I do believe it is (in large part) man-made, though I never said so, I only said that to claim it’s not happening is a downright lie. So please do me the courtesy of not pulling bullsh*t that I never said.

6. Personal insults such as directly calling other users scumbags (especially when they said nothing to elicit such an attack) is against the rules. That includes insults against Moderators. Consider this an official warning.

Even more of a scumbag than usual? Debating on a subject I know nothing about? HILARIOUS? Really?

1. An Earth Scientist studies the Earth. That’s all earth systems, geological, hydrological and atmospheric. To say an earth scientist “knows nothing about” atmospheric science is as retarded as saying a doctor knows nothing about anatomy.

2. My PhD is in sequence stratigraphy (look it up). That’s the study of sea level fluctuations throughout geological time, and their association with climatic controls. That’s what we USE to find hydrocarbons in the subsurface. I can almost guarantee that I know more about climate change than just about everyone you know.

3. So I work for an oil company? So what? I’m not fed bullsh*t by the “Shell Corporation” (you make it sound like the Church of F*cking Scientology), and am quite capable of thinking on my own.

That davymid, an Earth Scientist working for the Shell Corporation, by, and I paraphrase, `drawing an X on a map a telling them where to drill` is championing for global warming, something he actually knows nothing about. Oh, he`s a scientist, but that doesn`t make him knowledgeable on the subject, yet he feels justified in throwing out his Ph.D on subject matter it doesn`t pertain to. On that note, it`s even more hilarious that the further debate is whether or not mankind is primarily to blame for global warming, and davymid works for an OIL COMPANY. PRICELESS! What is it the Shell Corporation tells you, davy? Admit to global warming, but for god`s sake, don`t mention that it may be man-made? It`s funny, because you`re more of a scumbag than usual for weighing in on, of all topics, global warming. Hilarious
5cats nailed it. global warming is a hoax. if you read the new york times the headlines (through the years) flip flop back and forth saying "global warming" then "global cooling" and then back to "global warming". IT`S A CYCLE that we don`t contribute to.

Besides, it`s not the end of the world, its the end of the world as we know it. I think there`s going to be a big change not total destruction.

In the past the earth has been a great deal warmer (or colder) than today. In 1300BC it was a good +2C average hotter for over a century. Did the world end? Nope, it was a boom-time for plant growth and human expansion.
To imagine that humans are warming the earth is huberis in the extreme. Termite produce more greenhouse gasses than ALL of human activity.
On Topic > The Mayan calender doesn`t "end in 2012" it counts down to zero (or 1, idk if they had zero) and then starts counting down all over. They didn`t run out of room, it was planned that way from the beginning of the 4th cycle.

global warming is definitely happening, i just don`t think it`s manmade. we might have contributed to it, but i doubt in a big way. it seems arrogant to suggest that we are now the cause of a process that has happened countless times before and will happen countless times in the future.
let me just point out that the people who are behind all the global warming research did things like... make up their own data, ignore other data that contradicted theirs, paid people off, took money, etc.
Lies, propaganda and rampant bullsh*t. Again, the "people who are behind all the global warming research" is the world`s international scientific community. Accusations that these people made up their own data, ignored other data that contradicted theirs, paid people off, took money, etc requires some evidence, kid. Linky?

p.s. save the "climategate" bullsh*t, as they were a handful of scientifically insignificant, innocuous comments from 5 climatologists taken wildly out of context (from those with an agenda) from a hacked email databank of 10s of thousands of emails spanning more than a decade, deliberately blown out of all proportion.

Other linkys may count.

let me just point out that the people who are behind all the global warming research did things like... make up their own data, ignore other data that contradicted theirs, paid people off, took money, etc. On top of this, the world is on about a 60 year warming and cooling cycle. they started measuring the glaciers a the peak of the cold part. Not to say global warming doesn`t exist. Just saying that it`s nothing to worry about.

Oh forsooth - `Dilemma`, what is thy definition?

On the one hand, I agree with Davy - the focus of GW has now shifted in the OVERWHELMING MAJORITY of scientists from "Is it real or not?" to "Yes we ackowledge its real, but is it manmade or natural cycle?"

On the other hand, I`ve never read anything Davy said that made sense before, so I can`t agree with it just on principal.

Dilemma, be gone from me.

vv @goaliejerry - The Mayans did write books, tons of them! Histories and records going back many 1000s of years. But the Spanish burned ALL of them (except 3 I think). If people want to bash the history of Catholicism, there`s lots of real-life reasons to do so. No need to make stuff up.

>>> Wrong Keitarhohusky! The Mayan calender is completely independant of ours, it`s dates are 100% accurate, it matters not what number WE attach to them. The date on our current calender that matches the Mayan "end of days" is accurate.
Every "cycle" in the Mayan calender the numbers "roll over". This is the ending of the 4th cycle, after 2012 it will be the 5th cycle. Some say the change of cycles can bring great change and destruction into the world. It can also be a time of re-birth and fresh beginnings.
But happy endings don`t sell conspiracy books, eh?

Alright, here`s a great fact here. The bible was wrong when it started. I`m not saying the content was wrong but a man that re-wrote it was. He got the dates off by FIVE years. We chose to ignore this since it`s been about 2000 years already and it does not really effect us that much. So in 1995 we should have been celebrating the year 2000. 2012 has already passed and we are alive.

Panic? You mean stupidity. And the stupid are with us always. Every year or so since I was a boy (and, doubtlessly, before my time also) some group of morons has predicted the End of the World for one reason or another. And we are still here, just like we will be in 2013.
