Uhm, this actually frightens me a bit. While this would make small time transactions easier.. it makes credit card information fairly easily obtainable. What if someone designed a hack to record the information of other`s credit cards?

I was just thinking something similar. The fact that this is -so- easy frightens me as well.

Do you know why drug dealers use cash?
Because electronic money is traceable. Your bank, the IRS, the NSA and every 2. class cracker know (or can get to it) what you bought, where, when, from whom, what you payed.

bananajojo - Haha, I didn`t think of that! Quite an awesome idea.

I actually really like this idea, and if they can find a way of making it more secure, then I would consider getting an iphone (not soley for that, but it would certainly add to the reasons why I should).

That being said, it`s not very hard to steal peoples credit card information if you have enough time/commitment, The Real Hustle showed that it could be done.

    "Because electronic money is traceable"
Yes, but most transfers done via shops, or ATMs will tell you what happened (it does on mine; telling me where I bought stuff, how much I payed), but it doesn`t say /what/ you bought. It would make finding the people slightly easier, but only slightly.

According to http://www.usdebtclock.org/ the USA is USD12 trillion in debt, which is USD113,000 per taxpaying citizen. The average American citizen is personally in $54,000 of debt. I can see an iPhone app which allows bank transfers would only allow this debt to increase.

As a point of interest, Australia is only AUD66 billion in debt, which means AUD 7,600 per taxpayer, and each citizen has only AUD 3,500 in credit card debt, as opposed to the USA`s 54,000.

I think that saying this would increase debt in any way is a pretty invalid argument considering the widespread use of debit/credit cards instead of cash these days, adding another point of sale isn`t going to change how much people spend. It isn`t creating another avenue of lending, which is where the debt is created in the first place.

It looks more like you just wanted to point out that Australia has less debt per capita than the US. And? The US has bigger guns than Australia. Equally invalid and pointless, but true nonetheless.

Anyways, I would never trust any individual, and especially not my drug dealer, if he stopped tapping away on his iPad, pulled out his iPhone and said, "Nah man it`s cool, I do this all the time."

great until someone taxes the transactions...governments want to push these technologies so all transactions can be tracked thereby...no cash transactions only e-transactions...mobile phones track your whereabouts, credit cards do the same...any job or service you can offer now including cutting someones grass for a `cash fee` will be subject to a tax in the future...
Now before you roll your eyes, this is only my opinion, i maybe completely wrong and government control of the population is a myth...

This will only help further your own debt. "Aw man I don`t have 300$ to buy <useless object you really want for no apparent reason>, WAIT we both have square, I can put it on my credit card!" If anything, credit card companies are responsible for this, not the government.

cant wait till my dealers start using those, cuz everyone knows thats why the app was made, businesses can dratin buy a credit card reader. btw if you even own a credit card you`re an idiot. unless you don`t live in the united states and you`re country is economically healthy, then you`re alright.
