Does anyone have high speed footage of a lightning strike from inside a car being struck by it? That would be interesting. You`re safe (assuming it`s not a convertable :) ) but what would it look like from inside? It would be pretty cool to sit safely while a bona fide death ray discharges a foot away.

Hmm...safe...would you be safe if the car was made of carbon fibre? Plastic bodywork?

Aww, I didn`t get as many insults as I hoped with my last post. Only one "stupid" and five explanations. *sigh* I need more work to become a decent troll.

watch closely. it doesnt strike up. it just follows the path set by the first branch that touches the ground. to the guy who said its interesting that lightning seems to "search" for the path of least resistance. you are correct. thats EXACTLY what it does haha its basically electricity. common knowledge bud. very awesome. id like to know the fps of the camera that filmed this though.. i didnt think we had any that could slow it down to catch something moving over 3000 miles per second

"Yeah, Paul1582 is right. The initial shock finds the path of least resistance, but the bolt itself travels back up the path.

Also, I think this may be a repost from a long time back?"

This is, indeed, a repost, but we have many new users, so it doesn`t really matter.

It looks like both "strike down/strike up" stories seem to hold truth.

Observation:

The initial strike feels downward, then when the electricity reaches the earth, it becomes grounded, and then "fires".

Nah, I never wonder, cause I`ve seen this vid a few times. It still never ceases to amaze, though.

Actually, if you look at the video, it actually does strike up.

Its funny how god just throws a bunch of lightning down and one just randomly hits something..... or not.

Wow. It gave the impression that lightning has a kind of intelligence where it looks for the first way into the ground it finds to discharge its energy. Very interesting.
