Really Pahhka interesting cuz I went to a predominantly black high school and racism was as well as culturism (one carribean island vs another) occured, but neither were tolerated interesting to know that theres a high school down here were apparently you don`t have basic human rights, and by acceptable you mean if you brought it to some lets say a teacher or another administrative figure they wouldn`t do anything about it of course? If so you should get a lawyer an make tons of money.

@jade eskimo it is not the fact that blacks are not allowed in ms america pagent but the reason that ms black america started was because no black woman was picked before in ms america meaning that black beauty was not respected in those pagents.

Ok wow, really...

Any discrimination positive or negative based on race is racist.

Secondly, the biggest reason there are more white people in most jobs in the Western world is because, big surprise, there is more white people in the Western world. Just like there`s very few rice farmers in the fields of Japan.

Whites are the majority in North America and Europe... probably Austrailia too, but I`m not sure, but world-wide, we`re the minority by a fair bit.

Yeah, there is white-privilege in lands settled by whites, and there`s Asian-privilege in Asia. Why aren`t you raising a stink over there too?

No, definitely NOT. Its funny when a black guy laughs at it but not when a white guy laughs at exactly the same thing.

There is a completely different set of standards, rules and attitudes depending on what color you are.

This is called `racial equality` in the 2000`s.

"So it`s a bad time to mention KFC also had a Special on fried chicken at the same time?"

When I was the only white guy at a job I used to have all the other guys called the sale KFC had on Tuesdays "Negro Tuesday." I never figured out if I was allowed to laugh or not.

"Second those of u who r calling affirmative action, black history month, and ms. black america RACIST"

racism: discriminatory especially on the basis of race

its not a hateful discriminatory, just dividing people by race; there`s no "reverse racism".

I just think racism is hilarious. Anyone who is going to be so closed minded as to make a prejudice remark is truely an idiot. And anyone that is going to let a prejudice remark get to them is truely an idiot.

Personally, I feel like both white and black people feel like their too goddamn entitled to something. This is a selfish time we`re living in...everyone wants to be the most important person.

And to LuvSushi:

So when did we stop letting black people into the miss America pagents? When did we take black history out of history classes?

this conversation spawned from a newspaper ad.
Second those of u who r calling affirmative action, black history month, and ms. black america RACIST u are the type of ppl i really avoid because u dont even kno ur racist.
If it wasnt for the way this country is those things wouldnt have to exist but i cant get my spot up in the light if we did away with those simply because every other situation is dominated by whites and im supposed to suck it up,every other month is black history and so on.

As a White man, admitting I benefit from White privilege is not easy, but that doesn`t mean it isn`t true. One part of White privilege is being able to ignore that I benefit from it. Here is well written paper on the topic:

IkeRay - You are again, simply wrong. What you are doing is taking anecdotal evidence and saying that it is the norm. If you looked at objective studies, you would find that Whites are still far more likely to be called back for interviews and ultimately given jobs than African Americans by a huge margin.

Male 229
McGovern - Even with affirmative action, which exists as an attempt to make up for the inequalities that are KNOWN to exist, African Americans are still much less likely to attend college compared to whites. The reasons behind this fact are extremely complicated and would require you to open your mind a bit, which I`m not sensing you`re willing to do. Whites are also likely to be chosen for better jobs even when a person of color is more highly qualified, get paid more for doing the same job, have more access to housing, and the list goes on......

shnard-dog:

the country is already leaning that way, as it is now, minorities have an easier job finding work because of equal opportunity. yes, everyone should have an equal chance at a job, that should include whites not prohibit higher of whites. by instigating a required limit it forces employers to judge by race and not skill. if a clean, well educated black guy and a clean well educated white guy both entered my office for an interview, they both have an equal chance of making it, but if a gangster/poor speaking white dude came in and a clean black guy but they have the same education background...the black guy is getting hired, he portrayed himself as having a better work potential.

@madest: I hope you were being satirical...its true that the only reason racism still exist is because we are forced to look at race; allowing minorities to abuse the system because of race (medicaid, medicare, education money) is just perpetuating the issue.

Ummm what is this "White privilege" I haven`t got my check yet and had to pay for college myself even though my GPA was a 3.8 while students who were black got tuition. Stuff that seperates races for this and that perpetuates racisim.

Fumblingmala said: "everyone needs to get over this whole race thing, especially black people"

Umm, maybe once the whole racism thing goes away, i.e. everyone has the same opportunities in this country, regardless of race, then people will get over it. Until then, we need to keep pointing out how ads like this one are maintaining racist attitudes and stereotypes that continue to marginalize persons of color and maintain White privilege.

Shnard-dog, don`t you mean Ike is as likely to be genetically similar to an African male as he could be to a Caucasian male?

Anyways, everyone needs to get over this whole race thing, especially black people. At this point they are the ones who are overtly racist, and although I understand that their racism against whites is actually justified I think that unless one of us gets over our discrimination issue we`re just going to be caught in a cycle of `justified racism` forever.

IkeRay - You are simply wrong. Please look into the research (post 1950`s) before you claim this again. White scientists used to try to prove that these differences truly existed to support the overtly racist policies in place at the time and couldn`t do it. The human race is the only actual race. You are likely to be more genetically similar to an African American person than another White person (assuming you`re White).

Wow IkeRay, your white male privilege is showing. I`m sure *you* would have no problem `letting it go` (letting what go? were you enslaved or denied the vote for generations?) and living in peace. It`s unfortunately not that simple, and people like you who scoff at this imaginary "discrimination" (I`m not discriminated against so it must not happen! They`re just whining!), hold back any progress.

" wow, mongoloids?! caucazoid?! These are totally baseless, antiquated terms that tell me you`re getting your information from a biased place"

actually, there are genetic differences in "race" that typically go across the entire race and yes, there are a few exceptions. its the reason blacks have black/dark skin despite being born in say canada or alaska (where its not needed like it was when they evolved in africa), its the reason their hair is the texture it is as well, same for the other 2 races. yes, there are only 3 races, Mongloid, Caucasoid, Negroid. Race is a "man made" trait to begin with, in other animals, we call it species or subspecies, we don`t refer to it as race...

McGovern, I agree, it would be nice if all ethnicities were recognized for their various contributions to our society. What would be really great is if it didn`t require setting aside a specific month to do this, but that we appreciated our differences and all that we contribute to our society on a daily basis.

IkeRay...... wow, mongoloids?! caucazoid?! These are totally baseless, antiquated terms that tell me you`re getting your information from a biased place. Race is a socially constructed concept. In other words, there aren`t distinct biological distinctions that make up "races". Whites have far more privilege in our society than persons of color, privilege that we take for granted on a daily basis. We don`t need a White history month, we get to enjoy the privilege that comes with being White every day.

actually, there is a latino history month...

"Yes but there have been 0 winners that weren`t black in the Miss Black America contest."

and yet having a contest for "Miss White America" would be racist...

blacks complain about racism too much, its a double-standard (they can complain about whites but not vice versa) much like women complain about men too much. we aren`t living in the 1800`s or even 1900`s (none of these have been a problem since the `60`s); just let it go and we can live as a society...

@ shnard-dog

I`m sorry but black history month in and of itself is racist. no, the other 11 months whites aren`t patting themselves on the back for their achievements...we don`t only talk about MLK or `insert other famous black person of your choosing` during February; hell MLK day isn`t even IN february...

secondly, the ad probably has "black history month" written all over the top of every page, not just this one, and its not uncommon to have a section in the supermarket/store for "ethnic hair products". its not racist because they have a different hair makeup than caucazoids or mongloids and it requires more oils (which would be bad in the other races` hair).

First, I find this ad offensive because it implies that putting hair products on sale is somehow celebrating African American culture, or that African American culture is captured in hair products. Second, to those who think having Black History month is racist, Whites get the other 11 months to pat ourselves on the back for all of the "good" we`ve done. Black history month is about celebrating the contributions of African Americans to our society, something that is often overlooked in our White privileged society.
