I hope that woman keeps going to BK on her scooter, so that young children can learn from her bad example.

TERMINATOR: RISE OF THE MACHINES

Stay on the scooter fatty, otherwise it will turn into a mobile weapon of robotic destruction.

She`s saving the earth by gaining more weight and stopping the terminator below her from moving. for now it can only move its lower axles to provide transport for its human master.

See i`m not negative :)

It has been found that some fat people have a problem with leptin production...

Key word, some. Doesn`t work when 50% of the population in aust and america is overweight. And dont worry kate, it`s only the internet, don`t lose sleep over it babe.

Now welcome back itsallfake, I have a new debate, i refuse to think a child fetish is a disease. That means I have a disease that makes me like boobs. Nooooooooooo.

But we should just tolerate it amirite

Helloooo ladies

The creepiness is just a stage act.

Stereotyping works, because its true the majority of the time. SHHUUUREEE she `could` have a disease. But she`s angry, at the camera man, little patience for slowly cooked healthier alternatives. *shakes magic 8-ball furiously* All signs point to B1tch just wants sum foooood.

Did you know that pedophilia is a mental health disease? Should we TOLERATE them because they are diseased? Many pedphiles admit they have a problem, some go so far as to self castrate yet they still succumb to their disease. But hey, it`s a disease so let`s tolerate them, after all if we show love and compassion they will be perfectly safe around our children right?

I know what you`re going to say, "pedophelia is nothing like obesity" to which i will say the only difference is that being fat is harmful to yourself than to little kids. There is still an object of great desire that causes a person like this to do things they would not do under normal circumstances. This woman is SO addicted to food that the degredation of herself and the lack of respect for herself shows that those flame grilled patties mean more to her than, well, her own life. Tolerance? Feck that. I am a fatty and i have enough respect for myself and other people that i dont do this sort of thing.

It has been found that some fat people have a problem with leptin production... Meaning that their body doesn`t tell them when their body fat has got over the set weight for their height. It also effects how full they feel. Also, once you have put on weight your resistance and body expectations of % of body fat changes. Changing body fat ratio isn`t easy. It takes a lot of effort. How many of you are ripped? Really. Sure, eating BK is a really bad choice... But it is hers. Do you ever think that mocking her makes her depressed SO she eats? The abuse people hurl is needless and cruel. You don`t have to agree with other peoples life style choices but you can control how you treat other people.

Tolerance.

malinschen, all restaurants here in the US are required to provide handicap access. So if she is going to behave abnormally (e.g. useing a car lane in a ugly fat person scooter), then she should expect some snickering.

BTW, did I mention that she was fat, eating at a fast food restaurant, and riding a fat person scooter in the car lane? ...fat }-)

What I don`t like though is that no matter what, shes a human and shouldn`t have to stand this kind of behaviour (getting photographed and put up on the internet in this manner (to make her look bad and make people laugh at her)). I thought you stopped being that stupid and mean in high school, when you realised that illness kan happen to anyone.

Great, because I`ve left school, college and uni. Almost all fat people are fat because they eat too much. Anyone who has another reason for being fat (glands and such) probably knows this and wont go to places like this.

the cycling thing i think was 20 minutes, it was on one of those special club bikes, the ones with the heart monitor and what not. 5 minute warm up, 10 minute workout, 5 minute cool down. 3 times a week like everything else. eating habits, about 1500 calories a day, which at the time was told was too low, but come to find out later caloric intake is very dpenedant on your full day activities not just what you do in a short amount of time.

i guess what it really looks like is that you think the band was my first option in all this. Ive been fighting my weight for years. I never felt so good as when i was in college. I was trim and fit and actually dated a lot. It was after college, after i got married that i turned into football shaped giant. i was NEVER happy with it, and i did try stuff. i didnt just jump into excersise either, ive been a member of the Y here for about 2 years now. I started with cycling and a trainer, moved on to rowing. I was trying to get the full body activity. it ended with racquetball because racquet ball was loads of fun and it didnt feel like work. i could go 30 minutes and while i was sweating and my heart of going good, it never felt like work like cycling and rowing did...

not as happy about loosing weight as i am that i am finally able to restrict my intake. something i tried and failed on my own. 15k didnt pay for a piece of plastic in my stomache by the way, it paid for 30 years of gastric surgical experience, plus 12 years of college, the experience of 5000 previous banding... you know theres only a couple K worth of plastic and metal in a car, its what goes behind it that makes it more expensive...

"Were you that busy in your life while you slowly put on the weight to not see what was going on?"

i could list how busy my life is, but the truth is, yeah. I tried multiple diet plans, atkins, the zone, weight watchers. Most of the problem was my activity level. Since i graduated college, my career path is pretty sedentary. Plus i was lazy. No argument there. Short of the story, i waited too long to do anything. and yes, even my family doctor who didnt even know i was researching told me it was possible i went too far. should i have done something about it? hell yes, but i didn`t. and by the time i got to the point that i had had enough with it, it was too late. My doctor wanted to put me on some medication that would "control eating habits" but like i said, im not a fan of big pharma. the fact that i was on vicodin for 6 months for my back was bad enough. and i was truly inspired by the radical change that does happen with the procedure. im not as happy about lo

Please tell me you did more than 90 minutes of exercise a week? Were you that busy in your life while you slowly put on the weight to not see what was going on? I understood you skipped all those fat loss shakes (market`d to the couch potato). But is there really a point of no return? Thinking racket ball for 30mins would be too harsh on your body (like wii syndrome) and you should`ve eased in the exercise until your body could handle the stress. But if your happy with the procedues that`s fine, just 15 grand could`ve been a car or a nice sound system QQ

For someone who doesn`t realise that he`s slowly killing himself and can`t stop. Throw the 15k away. I love to eat as well, but yeah you need to stop at a point :`(

You know you can shrink your stomach without a lapband. It involves eating less, it will be slightly annoying having a half empty stomach. But you will get is shrunk in 15 weeks (say if ur on a grand a week at work) so that`s the lapband there, oh and your eating patterns would`ve changed as well. Meaning you just saved 15 grand.

The flaming at this time of day is really light >.>

Obesity can be many cases. A disorder, genetics, high toxin level, slow metabolism, cannibalism (crazy, huh lol?), genetically "modified" foods, calories, ingredients.

There`s a lot. The best thing you can do is trim on all of it. Eat less, eat healthier (organic foods are quite low in toxic material), work out.
If you want to be lazy and blame it on something though, sucks to be you.

heh cit off before 990 characters... 1000 characters is a LIE!!!

anyway, so i decided to check on procedures.

Then i started hearing reports about people who had the bypass done becoming type 2 diabetic. Which in the documentary they said that the guy cannot process sugars the same anymore, and that seemed to match the diabetes thing. So i lookied into the band. It was the safest, and most effective. The clinic i went to was amazing. everyone except the doctor had been a banding patient before they started working at the clinic. There were so happy with their lives after that they joined the clinic... which was a little weird i thought.

This doctor had performed over 5000 bandings with 0 after surgery complications. I was sold. And today i was able to synch my belt one notch tighter without discomfort. the 15k covered not just the surgery, but all drs visits, fills and empties, support group sessions and complication proceedures should any arise for the next 2 years.

"So you got that lap band that all the billboards are advertising now?"

you being from western US and me only been to glendale for 1 week back in the summer i can`t really say "yeah".

Here`s my "cool story bro":
When i decided to do something about my weight it was because i was the heaviest ive EVER been in my life. Last year i tried to do something, my wife and i played raquet ball for 30 minutes a day 3 days a week while trying to eat sensibly. Unfortuantely, my bad choices put me past the point of return. I was excerising my butt off and still GAINED weight.

There is a point you can get to that you simply cannot loose weight without medical intervention.
I didn`t want to try any medicines, im not a fan of big pharma. So i watched a lot of Discovery Health, especially shows about surgical proceedures. One in particular really inspired me, the dude was very similar to me, had gastric bypass and the documentary was the reason i chose to get su

itsallfake, it does depend on the gland. However, the thyroid controls weight in general. My father-in-law has had his completely removed several years ago as he could not gain weight at all because it was overactive. Plus he had stomach ulcers too and could only eat certain foods. People used to ask his wife if he had cancer he was that thin. He has to take drugs now to compensate for it now and he can gain weight.

ok, i think i can pretty much stop this "debate"

A "glandular" disorder that most fat people have used as an excuse doesnt exactly work in a way that would make this woman fat all over. Most glandular diseases are isolated to a particular gland site. And there is one thing consistant in glandular disorders... they have to drain them. Buddy of mine i used to work with was fat, bigger than me, 6x i believe he wore. He had a glandular disorder in his leg. His leg would get about 3 times the size of his normal one and once a year they had to drain it. Remember bob? the big moosie ed norton cried into his biatch-tits? that was protrayed as a glandular problem, and they went so far as to mention them getting drained. But they are isolated to one area, everywhere. This lady is simply fat and looking for a cheeseburger.

@PsychGeek

I`m all for kindness and spreading the love, I just don`t have the slightest problem with calling people on their faults when they choose to make the wrong decisions. Now, this is just speculation here, but I would assume you are the type to see alcoholism as a disease, while I see it as "quit being a drating pussy and just stop drinking." I quit pot, alcohol, pepsi (almost a 24 pack a day), and cigarettes (pack a day for 14 years), and poor eating habits (was 80 pounds overweight) and I quit each one by simply deciding one day to stop. Each was just as easy to quit as the last.

The difference between this Burger Queen and me, is that I said "I wont be fat" while she said "I will." (all assuming she doesn`t have some medical reason to be fat of course).

She has a drating scooter do her walking for her out of sheer laziness, and I think it is perfectly reasonable to condemn her for that.

Evil Eye:

If I remember correctly, this entire discussion started because of a few cruel comments by posters on this forum. It went from me and a couple others saying, "it`s not right to ridicule and make fun of her because of her looks" to a discussion on the causes of obesity.

But I agree, we need to spread some love :)

Well PsychGeek, always happy to make a bunny laugh! Your a physiology follower like me so I will not question your knowledge of what "fallacy of misplaced concreteness" is, because you already know.

For everyone that doesn`t, it basicly means making an argument using facts for a reason/excuse you do not know if they apply to. Therefore making the case/point irrelevant.

To sum up: Nobody knows for sure the cause of her weight and why she is at burger king, thus making the situation pointless to attack or defend. Nobody can be wrong or right unless more information can be found on her, so just be cool y`all and get some more love around!

Congrats itsallfake on your weight loss! It`s a huge achievement :)

However, I must disagree with you on one point. while ridicule may motivate some to lose weight, it certainly doesn`t motivate all. Many people, women especially, suffer from low self esteem due to the media`s portrayal of what women "should be", and said ridicule (especially if they are morbidly obese). This sometimes (not all the time, mind you) causes them to comfort-eat, which is often in the form of fattening foods. For many people, this is a viscous cycle.

Now, is it true that if you REALLY try hard you can save up the money for surgery, and if you REALLY try hard you can get into an exercise routine? Sure! No one is saying it isn`t. However, it can be said that ridicule and the media`s impossible goal of what women can/should be are definitely contributing factors to the obesity epidemic.

I am not a bleeding heart, but I do believe that society plays a role. It`s not ALL the fault of the indiv

Look it... Making fun of these people is what motivates them to DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT... enabling doesnt.

I`m obese, my BMI is 45, which is HUGE... you know what, i got tired of feeling like this and DID something about it. Instead of asking the state and taxpayers to buy me a scooter and front my medical bills, i saved my pennies and paid 15K to get banded. It`s been 4 weeks and ive already lost 30 pounds.

If you admit you have a problem, you can do something about it and there are means of restricting you when you don`t have the ability to.

4 weeks ago i weighed in at 402

last week 374 with shoes on...

Restriction works... period

Jazzy:

the argument can and has been made that MORBID obesity (not just overweight or obese, but MORBIDLY OBESE), is a disease, just like smoking and drinking can be considered diseases.

Eating food can be an addiction, and is worse than smoking or alcohol. No one is shoving cigarettes or booze down your throat, but you have to eat. If you can`t afford to eat healthy foods all the time, or if you (and this is where personal responsibility comes into play) choose to only eat junkfood, you can become addicted to it.

Not really dramaeco, insensitivities need pointing out. If we all went through life without a nod to the rules on social interaction we`d all be sociopaths. So, people dying of smoking related cancer, alcoholics who drink themselves to death after their wife has died, schitzophrenics who smoke too much killer weed and babies who electrocute themselves by putting their fingers in a live electrical socket are all fair game? How about when a race car driver dies in a horrible crash? Do you turn up at the funeral and laugh and point?

Haha good job! You have very effectively twisted my argument :)

What I was saying the whole time is that it`s NOT OKAY to make fun and laugh at people, no matter how they look or what situation they`re in.

I`m also saying that even though people DO HAVE THE CHOICE in the types of foods they eat, there are often underlying reasons behind morbid obesity.

I agree with you that personal responsibility plays a role, I`m not trying to throw a pity party for obese persons. What I AM saying is that they need help, not ridicule.

There, now we`re clear. :)

Although I`m nowhere near needing a scooter, If people find me less appealing to look at then others because I`ve let myself go,that`s my choice. But by the same token, I don`t expect people to hold their tongues either. Too many people want some retarded society where no one can speak their minds or state their opinions. Self Imposed Obesity is a growing epidemic in American society, in my personal opinion I think it`s because people, like some on here, are to nurturing to their sensitivity and instead of saying "stop eating, fatty" they try to "constructively" give "supportive" feed-back in a condescending mode, giving, yes, FAT people a reason to not try, or hope that someone will do the work for them, I`d lie if I said getting in shape was just a few work out videos away, but that`s the point. They need to get off their lazy arse and ACTUALLY try, which would include not going to burger king in your wheelchair because you`re too fat to walk or fit in a car.
If you`re fat and you take offense to this, I humbly apologize for your obesity, as apparently it`s everyone elses but your own fault, such is the American point of view

I`ll had a personal touch here in case it helps:

Junior year in high school I was 6`3 and 265 pounds. That`s not as big as this woman, but I did notice that in many classes I was the biggest, both tall and wide. I`d try not to put myself in situations where many people saw me, like this woman did on a scooter at a Burger King drive-thru. I guess all I`m saying is that she needs to be prepared to take a self-esteem hit when she does this. Self-esteem isn`t there so we can get pissed at other people over it, it`s there so we can be bothered by what`s wrong and fix it.

*shrug* I don`t actually care if you do. I only cared about Vindictive`s stance because the way she was phrasing it she made it sound like she was immune and didn`t care about anyone else in the world at all.

My opinion comes from being a pharmacist and seeing people in the hospital all the time. Granted, I work inpatient-side, now, but I always have to remember that I don`t know the circumstances behind why people are in the hospital, or perhaps upset when coming to the pharmacy. We get a lot of flak, but you never know. Someone might have just been told they have cancer, or they might be in the scooter because of a disease and not bad choices. We don`t get the luxury to assume.

Vindictive, this is an internet forum--not a formal debate class. I`m a 21-year-old senior in college, and am a psychology major. I have the access to the sources to back up what I`m saying, but frankly I`m not in the mood to find them.

You`re a teenager who makes fun of others and tris to prove herself as a big tough girl on an internet forum.

I frankly don`t want to debate you because I have better things to do with my time now, like study for an exam I have in my Psych of Men class later this week.

I suggest you grow up a little bit, maybe in a few years you`ll realize that people actually having feelings, and that openly making fun of them just makes you look like an immature child.

Have a nice evening.

Ugh, I hate whenever people try to make excuses for the really fat, or especially for the really obese. They are fat, and there`s an extremely high chance that they could be at least thirty pounds lighter if they just had some effin` control.

Psych, I happen to be one of those people who never feels full, and who always has the urge to snack on something. I`m also clinically depressed, and yeah, sometimes food makes me feel better about myself. I also just love food in general, lol. But you know what..? I am of "healthy" weight on the BMI scale, and all my life (with the exception of a few months where my anti-depressents made me gain weight), I`ve been called "tiny" by nearly everyone I meet. Of course, I`m fortunate enough to have most of my fat go to either my top or my bottom, and not my middle, but I`m also not fat because I realise there`s a point where you need to stop eating, otherwise you look like the Burger Queen here, lol.

no! it`s not! nice straw man argument you have going there! really PROVE to me with numbers and statements from well-respected scientific sources that what you said is true and not the result of your non-professional inference.

"I want facts and figures supporting the opposite of what I`m saying. :)"

how about instead of arguing in the way /b/ does (`PROVE ME WRONG`) you actually back up what you have to say? for someone named `psych geek` you seem to know very little about actual psychology/biology/genetics/epigenetics.

Vindictive: it`s something called common sense, you don`t need the numbers to see the truth in that statement.

maybe she did try losing weight at some point, but no one supported her, maybe some even told her she`d never succeed. It`s called a self-fulfilling prophesy. If you don`t think you`ll succeed at something, you probably won`t. If someone convinces an obese person, through ridicule or otherwise, that they`ll never succeed in losing weight, they probably won`t.

I want facts and figures supporting the opposite of what I`m saying. :)

the point, nemo and tyremote, is that making fun of others is wrong, no matter the reason. Think whatever you want about how she became obese, or why obesity occurs in general.

it`s no excuse for making fun of others and putting them down, just because they don`t conform to society`s standards of what`s normal or attractive. for your information, it`s the nasty comments like the ones i`ve seen on here that help perpetuate obesity. Instead of helping these people and encouraging them to lose weight, we cut them down and make fun of them.

It`s really quite sad..

"It`s known that junkfood like Burger King releases endorphins, and is a comfort food for many people. Maybe she has depression, and eating this food makes her feel better? Or maybe she has a chemical imbalance in her brain that does not allow her to feel full (conditions like this DO exist)."

Oh come on! Can we please as a society stop holding peoples hands and tell them they can do whatever they want because its not their fault. "oh its just my genes" or "oh I have a medical condition, it`s not my fault" I hate that mentality so much. Own up to yourself. I`m not that physically fit, I could work out more and be healthier. But I don`t, that`s my choice and I`ll never say I don`t work out because I have lazyness syndrome or some similar bullsh*t.

I did bring it up. My heart sank for this woman because, to me, she seemed like she was miserable in the first place and didn`t need this little extra push for a bad day.

However, after I brought it up, it was you who felt the need to defend yourself for laughing at her, ignoring all the reasons that had been posted.

Mine was only a comment that I stand on the side of compassion when I don`t know the full story.

"YES BECAUSE EVERY CASE OF OBESITY IS CAUSED BY A LEGITIMATE GENETIC PROBLEM."

May I please see this proof?

Also: Okay, then in the case that obesity is genetic, it isn`t getting better by eating unhealthfully and not making the effort to better one`s self. It`s saddening as well, because this woman could be living a very healthy and happy lifestyle, and instead she`s sitting in a scooter going through the drive-thru of a fattening fast food restaurant chain. This gives us a mere glimpse at her life, yes, but it isn`t one that convinces us that she`s trying to better herself.

Vindictive: so instead of judging others for their eating habits, why not look at the underlying causes of those habits?

It`s known that junkfood like Burger King releases endorphins, and is a comfort food for many people. Maybe she has depression, and eating this food makes her feel better? Or maybe she has a chemical imbalance in her brain that does not allow her to feel full (conditions like this DO exist).

It`s not all about choice, per se. Granted, some people do choose to eat only bad foods. But there are always reasons behind it besides "it tastes good".

"The POINT here, is we don`t know WHAT is causing this woman`s problems. It might be that she hasn`t taken care of herself, or it might be something outside of her control."

i NEVER disagreed with you on that! ever! my point is that i have a MASSIVE (no pun intended) problem with the morbidly obese who are that way because of their own doing. and yeah, i`m making an assumption because she IS morbidly obese, she can`t walk, and she`s at a burger joint. there could be a million reasons for this. but let`s face it, that is without a doubt the most common reason people like her are in that situation.

Actually, Vindictive, I completely agree with you. I have a problem with people who don`t take care of themselves and then rely on the government and doctors to `fix` them when things start going wrong.

The POINT here, is we don`t know WHAT is causing this woman`s problems. It might be that she hasn`t taken care of herself, or it might be something outside of her control.

" But if you sit here and say that others` hostility toward you wouldn`t phase you even the least little bit, you`re lying."

way to put words in my mouth. blatant hostility, which i have dealt with, and the constant judgment of others are completely separate things. you`re judging me right now. it doesn`t bother me. because your opinion doesn`t matter in the slightest.

anyway, it`s a moot point. you and i will never meet and therefore, i have nothing to prove to you.

So, Vindictive, you see no problems with making fun of others? I have found that those who openly make fun of others actually feel horrible about themselves, and bringing someone else down makes them feel better.

I would love to see people openly make fun of you, and see how you react. You act all tough on here and say you wouldn`t care, that you do as you please. But if you sit here and say that others` hostility toward you wouldn`t phase you even the least little bit, you`re lying.

YES BECAUSE EVERY CASE OF OBESITY IS CAUSED BY A LEGITIMATE GENETIC PROBLEM.

no, that`s not it. wait, are the MAJORITY of cases of obesity caused by legitimate genetic problems?

no, they`re not. they`re a result of lifestyle. i`m human and i will judge other humans based on their choices JUST as they will judge me. why do we have to be so touchy-feely? people probably see me all the time and go "what a freak/idiot/whatever". i don`t care because i do what i damn well please.

It`s really easy to point and laugh... and say it`ll never happen to you at the ripe age of twenty. Most medical problems that cause obesity happen after thirty-five or fifty, and most accidents happen in your adult life. No one is invincible.

You are a perfect example of my point, Zerocyde.

I am mature enough to not make fun of others. I see women like the one featured on this link and I feel sorry for her, because a*s-wipes like you probably laugh and point at her all the time. She more than likely has self-esteem issues.

Like other people have said, you have no idea if she was getting food for herself or someone else, and you have NO CLUE if her eating habits caused her obesity---or haven`t you ever heard that MEDICAL ISSUES can also cause obesity?

Before you judge me, try growing up a bit yourself. Seems to me like you`re one of those types to pass off all obese people as being food shovelers, and you don`t care about any underlying medical conditions they might have. You need to do some research on the causes of obesity--it`s not all about an inability to control what and how much you eat.

I`m not lazy\stupid enough to let that happen? OHH WHY IS THIS BURGER RUSHING TOWARDS MY MOUTH?!? WHATS HAPPENING?!?! You really think that`s how it drating works?

"--or maybe when someone you care about dies at an early age from obesity, due to poor choices. Will you be laughing then?"

I wont be laughing when a loved one dies, but if they killed themselves it`s their drating fault.

"To make fun of someone purely because of their lifestyle is asinine, cruel, and immature."

No, to make fun of someone purely because of their lifestyle is perfectly drating reasonable.

What the drat is wrong with you? Have you ever heard of willpower or self control? Holy drat, how do you get dressed in the morning? How do you even roll out of bed without being pushed by someone? Holy drat, grow up.

xBlackedx: I apologize, you`re right. I work at a hospital and not all the oxygen tanks are smokers, however, COPD is often caused by smoking. Either way, both COPD and smoking can cause obesity.

My original point still stands. We don`t know what`s going on, here. It`s not right to do this to anyone.

My grandmother who passed lived with COPD for years. It requires those airtanks. She never smoked once in her life. She was also overweight, but it was a sideaffect of the COPD. It caused her to retain water. So, I suggest you all shut the f*ck up about it, because you guys obviously don`t know a thing. Not all people with oxygen tanks smoke, and not all `fat` people are fat from shoving hamburgers down their gullet.

My point is, Jadavid, that we don`t know why she`s overweight and in that scooter. If it`s because she`s fat and lazy? Hell yeah, laugh away. But we simply can`t be sure. She might be overweight due to a thyroid problem or diabetes that is beyond a level of control.. or maybe she was in an accident and couldn`t walk, therefore, is now overweight. We just don`t know.

Majority of the time? Fat, lazy smokers.. yes, smokers. I see the stupid oxygen tanks on the back of those things all the time. Those people just made stupid choices and deserve something like this. Those who suffer from poor circumstance, don`t.
