Yeeeaaah... Japan did it again. This stop-motion clips must have taken months to cut and paste together.

stuff like this makes me appreciate the good old fashioned way of doing things. not knocking the Photoshopping and such, but I prefer working with my hands and apparently punishing my wallet for ridiculously expensive art supplies any day, lol.

Very satisfying and yet boring.

If anyone doubts this is real and hand-made... take a look at the making-of. No photoshop, no green screen, just pure awesomeness, lots of ink and patience! Touhou fandom is freaking amazing.

the numbers are lined up exactly because they are printed in relation to each of the main pictures and will be used for reference. The position of the picture on the page changes, you ever tried printing out 4 pictures on a piece of A4 and got the margins exact?

Someone else has also posted this but it might be of interest http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sib2L6A6x...

k10josumm: Either way, every-one of those images still had to be constructed by someone. All 6000+ of them... computer or not, it still had to be done! They probably did do it on paper (you can see the texture of the ink in some places) and used the numbered bitmap names to center the image so that the video would flow smoothly.

this is amazing. thus, i hate to be that guy that makes A of himself by saying something negative. but how can this be real? i mean, the tag (BA_XXXX.bmp) is pretty much perfectly layered the whole time while the papers are constantly changing. the paper will have too much on the left, but the tag remains in the exact same place. does anyone follow this AT ALL?

While I agree with the general sentiment that this is indeed `shopped` (It looks like it could have been done with some kind of `green screen` technique or something) I still totally dig the animation. Really clever and a nice presentation.

I find it a testament to my way too much time online and a few too many hours attempting to beat Touhou games that I can name every character in that. I can`t tell if that`s a win or a fail, but I can say that this is an amazing video. I`d seen it referenced here and there, but never really taken the time to watch all of Bad Apple. Definite credit needs to be given to the person with enough patience to make all the images and cobble them together in stop-motion so smoothly.

Okay, time for a round of Touhou for me.

If anyone wants to see what this originated from, go to touhou.wikia.com, or get your hands on one of the many games. (Or, you know... search Youtube to see what you`ll get yourself into. Or browse /jp/ on 4chan.)

what was the fps on that? I know it had to be faster than the typical animation standard....

Well... that`s kind of easy to find out. At the 1 minute matk we`re at BA_1793.bmp, at the 2 minute mark at BA_3591.bmp. This gives us 1798 pictures in this minute which comes down to almost exactly 30 fps. So yeah... it`s a little more than the standart 24 fps used for animation (although video animation IS done at 30 fps).

I`m jealous because I could never do anything as awesome as this but I`m going to cover it up by calling whoever made this a basement dweller (otaku?) with no life.

So yeah.

"Holy crap, bitmaps? Assuming those images are around 200x200 px, that`s well over 2000 Mb worth of images."

Yeah! and can you imagine all the ink they wasted on it? Good grief

This is the reason I still come to IAB.

I know I only tend to respond to the flame wars, but seriously, this is awesome. If it wasn`t for occassional awesomeness like this, I wouldn`t just stop by for the arguments.

Just FYI. More of this.
