True or false it makes no difference.
If its true you can rest assured that the governments of the world are taking steps to ensure the survival of the human race.
If its true we`re talking devastation on a global scale that no amount of planning by the average person`s means will help them.
and finally if its true the governments have a responsibility to cover it up to prevent the chaos that the mindless animals we call the human race would bring knowing they`re all doomed.

Um, didn`t the Spaniards pretty much kill the Mayans before they could finish the calendar anyway? Please correct me if I am wrong. I don`t think you should freak out unless it says something like "The End of Time" or similar to that.

Hmm, so it`s `What Some Have Read` vs `What We Actually Know`. I know which side I`m on.

Come on. The universe is just carrying on as normal. It`s not all suddenly going to end just because some ancient uninformed race may or may not have predicted it so.

There`s a book called "Shift" in where the Earth`s magnetic field "shifts" and a lot of people believe it`s going to be the end of the world when "God" comes and takes them all, when really the government is just doing it. Forgot why... ffffuuuu

I think it`s bullpoo, but I guess we`ll find out in a couple years. :)

I`ll say that it`s pointless to worry about it right now though. It`s best to just live your life as you normally would, rather than live in fear of what could(*probably won`t*) happen.

Way i see it i will die one day and i would rather live my life not knowing then fearing the end the whole time, same goes for the end of the world, If it happens in my life i don`t wanna know when. This is the reason a choose not to be with or against the "End of the World Predictions". Because if its going to happen what good will it do to know? I`m sure no matter what faith you have (if any) you will agree, when/if the end comes there isn`t a thing anyone or anything on this planet can do about it.

Christians have had more end of days predictions than that. Half a dozen at least. The only one with any substance was "any time now" in 1347 and that was made *after* the catastophe started.

If you read more, you wouldn`t have needed to ask that question.

But I`ll answer it anyway, because I can spare the time.

The Mayan calendar doesn`t only go up to that year. References have been found carved into rock by ancient Mayans for dates more than 2000 years after 2012.

All calendars have cycles. The one we use has a cycle of one year. Others have different cycles, for example the Chinese calendar with a 12 year cycle. When one cycle ends, the next begins. Does anyone expect radical change or the end of the world on the first of January every year? The Mayans had several calendars, one of which has a cycle of over 5000 years. When the current cycle ends, the next cycle will begin. Just like the 1st of January every year.

On December 22, 2012, believers will say something was predicted wrong, or that it will happen on another day. December 21, 2013, and believers will still be convinced the end of the world is coming.

And then when the "2012" nonsense dies down, someone is going to say the dinosaurs died on such and such day, which is a SURE sign that the world will end in 2020, on that same day. And on and on and on until the world actually DOES end

Not only that, but i find it /hilarious/ that they keep finding "lost books of Nostradamus" every couple of years. In in those books it JUST so happens to correlate with what is going on at the moment. Its all a bunch of BS >.>

didn`t we have the same BS about 10 years ago at y2k? "the computer systems will roll over to 1900 and freak out causing all nuke warheads to launch, ending the world", yeah, and that happened right?

humanity needs religion and random life ending threats in order to survive apparently...we are a paranoid society that believes the universe is out to get us. whats the next major scare after 2012 passes safely?

Nostradamus is a complete load of BS. He made hundreds, thousands of predictions, very few of these have come true, and even the ones the supposedly have are so vague, you could interpret them as a lot of things.

As for the whole 2012 fiasco, well, there is very little scientific proof to suggest anything extraordinary or catacalysmic will happen in 2012. Most of the theories have very little supporting evidence, and could be applied to most dates.

And the Mayans, well, even if they did predict the end of the world on that date, that doesn`t mean much. The end of the world has been predicted hundreds of times by loads of different civilisations. Christians predicted it would end some time in the 1800s and everyone believed it. Honestly, I think 2012 has just been blown out of proportion, the moment they discovered this "impending end", Hollywood, and the History Channel and the internet, and some desperate "scientists" just jumped on the bandwagon - the one thin

Reply
Male 9,305
Didn`t we already go to the Mayans for 2000? People used that back then too, then it was never referred to after nothing happened.

I also vaguely remember something about a planet X when I was in like 2nd grade, but in the following grades, it never happened to come up again. If it was something significant, I`m sure at least one of my teachers would have chatted about it during class.

Turbopuppy: Always correct, are you kidding me? He could have never been correct for all we know. His "predictions" are so vague they could mean anything. After all, people always "decode" them AFTER the "prediction" happened. Its all just whatever people want them to mean.
They`re currently fixing it.
They finished fixing it months ago, in June if I recall correctly, and it was recooled by November. It`s been running ever since, but they`re taking several months doing testing followed by progressively more energetic collisions. They`ve already passed the previous record from other colliders. They`re just not yet up to the levels required to confirm the existence or lack thereof of the Higg`s boson. That`ll probably happen before the end of March.

The LHC hasn`t been used at full power yet. They`re still cautiously working up to it. Better to do it right than to do it quickly, because it`s rather expensive to repair.

But there`s no real indication that it`s dangerous, unless someone somehow managed to get inside it while it was on. That would be dangerous for them.

21/12/2012 is just like the hundreds of other religious end of days myths that have failed to be true throughout recorded history.

Come to think of it, it`s worse than them because they haven`t even got the religion right for 21/12/2012.

2012 may or may not be the end. Who knows, and honestly who really cares. Mayan`s have calendars that date far beyond 2012. The calender for 2012 states a god will come from the sky, where does that say anything about the end, let alone wouldn`t you celebrate the coming of a god? But hey that could just be me.:-)

Look up THEMIS on the NASA website and read up on the huge gaping hole in the earths geo-magnetic field. Mix that with the elevated solar activity expected in the next two years, and you have the makings for a really bad day. Some scientists are of a mind that it`s a solar flare and not a comet that killed off Barney`s cousins.

Erm, Bioshocker:
The Large Hadron Collider failed.
It broke down.
It did not do what it wanted to do.

Even if the LHC was nothing but a Black Hole Making Machine, there would be no apocalypse.

They`re currently fixing it.

Believers: It will be ready again in 2012.
Skeptics: I guess we`re screwed, the Mayans clearly predicted the LHC failure by watching planets and poo.

The most likely doomsday prediction is the Muslim one timewise.

Islam pretty much just says it`ll be a Friday, but no specific year. Basically a 1/7 shot of being right.

For all the 2012 believers out there... Hey check it out, 21/12/12 is a Friday....

Skeptics:
(But not the 10th of Muharram which some people claim is necessary).

No, it doesn`t. One part says that a SUDDEN change is impossible. The other part says that a geologically rapid change would take 5000 years. 5000 years is not equivalent to a sudden change.

People, look up THEMIS on NASA`s website. It says for a fact that earth`s geomagnetic field are lined up with the sun, and our `shields` are currently down. This means that a sizable solar flare would be able to get through the huge gaping hole, that`s the size of 3 earths, in our magnetic field. Guess what, they`re predicting some big ones between 2010 and 2012. Coincidence? I think not.

I HAVE THE UNDISPUTED REASON FOR THE END OF THE WORLD IN 2012:

Starcraft 2 will finally come out.

Every male human being in America will quit their jobs to play it. Thus, the military, utility workers, doctors, etc. will all quit to play SC2. The terrorists will use this as an opportune time to attack. Korea won`t get enough copies of game, and will invade the US as well to steal copies. WW3 starts and, and nuclear armageddon kills everyone by Dec. 21st.

Not that it would have been the end of the world, but I wonder if there was no panic if we would have seen some problems instead of none.
