    Cheeseman obviously doesn`t understand;
did you think about boning women right away?
    No.
    You discovered these thoughts.
Just as gay people often discover their sexuality.

Homosexuality serves absolutely ZERO evolutionary function. Therefore, it is WRONG. Not wrong as in bad, but wrong as in 2 + 2 doesn`t = 12.

However, homosexuality harms absolutely no one. Therefore, bone whatever you want and haters can go drat themselves.

Zerocycle, evolution doesn`t have a direction. Or a purpose. It`s not like some force thinks "Oh, this looks like it`ll help the species" and that`s what gets selected for. It`s a lot more complicated than that.

"Zerocycle, evolution doesn`t have a direction."

Yea, it does. It`s direction is survival of the species. Two dudes having sex in no way helps the species survive. Babies do that.

Sitting on my ass playing video games serves no evolutionary purpose, but it`s not bad that I do that.

Go gramps; even animals can be gay sometimes, just because it doesn`t serve an evolutionary purpose doesn`t mean it`s wrong. Donkeys are sterile yet they exist, they may not make other baby donkeys but they serve a purpose on a farm. So why don`t all the internet scientists that think they`re so intelligent for knowing a scientific THEORY go get a life.

"Coming out" is when you choose to openly acknowledge to society/family/friends that you are gay for those who seem to misunderstand the concept.

    What`s your source?

Erm scientific studies in which they tried to decipher if being gay was environmental/genes/hormonal etc If you are gay then you would be gay from the beginning... Yes you will not realise sexual thoughts straight away but no child does whether straight or gay or transgender etc etc etc... Its a state of mind.. its chromosomes and its not something anyone can predict or change.

I was pointing out an issue in the sign - your sexual orientation iis something that MUST emerge over time, other wise babies would be attempting to screw each other; sexual orientation might be latently described in genes, but it is nonsensical to say that someone is gay (instead of LATENTLY gay) when they have no attraction to other creatures. This applies to straight people to; my argument is simply semantics. I do not think being gay is a choice, just like how I don`t think being straight is a choice, or being bisexual, or being a pedophile.

Fair enough but you don`t say you were straight from a certain point of time. You have never had reason to believe otherwise so You will say you were straight from the duration of your life not when you first realised you were straight.. the same with being gay.. this guy says he realised and recognised he was gay from the very start he is not going to begin from when he first had a sexual thought towards the same sex.

nucleartoast, donkeys are not sterile, mules are. I`ll give you the benefit of the doubt though and say this. MULES are the mutant, dead end offspring of horses and donkeys. Farmers could use donkeys, but mules are cheaper.

Point is, we are here to procreate, and Bill and Bobby cannot do that. Neither can Tina or Tammy. They can be gay and that`s fine, but they serve no purpose whatsoever except self gratification. They can adopt and serve a purpose, but most don`t.

We are? Hmmm well thank you for clearing the meaning of life up for us.. I mean we all have theories of why we are here and our purpose but apparently it is just to make babies... in a world that is dying... and is over populated... Yeah okay then.

Elle, I`m saying that if I were to make a sign like that about my heterosexuality, I would do it for as long as I have had attractions to the opposite sex - after all, that is the DEFINITION of heterosexuality. I have never heard of a documented case where a baby had a sexual attraction to another baby, straight or not. Once again, I`m just being an instigator, pointing out a small syntax error in the sign - it has absolutely nothing to do with his actual orientation, just the fact that he didn`t have an orientation whatsoever until a certain age.

Also, for the evolutionary argument: if you think the only meaning in life is to continue evolution, you should be constantly attempting to procreate while supporting every child you create, ignoring your own personal needs. For some reason I don`t see that happening.

Most of us do cheeseman, but we pair off because of social pressure. Nature tells men to spread seeds, but society tells us to pair off with a mate. Difference is, when we get married we slightly go against nature, but we do not interrupt the order of humankind to do so. We have babies.

Yeah but that is saying that is what we are here to do? Its not selfish, there are many ways people can serve their purpose and it is not just to have children... Plenty of people cannot procreate.. are they selfish? No. Everyone has a purpose and it is not determined by their sexuality.

Auburn, then I revise my statement:

If you believe that your only goal in life is to continue the evolution of the species in the way that "nature intended" (even though nature is not sentient, and evolution is just a side effect of the physical principles that govern the universe), and you also for some reason don`t care enough about your mission in life to step out of the expectations of society, you would be doing this:

Marry a woman. Have a baby with her as often as possible, producing a baby every couple of years or so. You then have to remove every single luxury from your and the children`s lives in order to keep them alive, ignoring any emotions that don`t explicitly contribute to the propagation of the species.

Oh really? And do you have the facts to back that up or is there any point in reasoning with the ignorant homophobes of the world? Hun, I base all my stuff on science and fact and what you can see happening around you but I have a feeling you don`t so you can continue in your ignorant and highly offensive stance that any gay person is selfish and serves no purpose. Erm, okay well you are the only person who would choose to do it that way.. I don`t say I have been straight for 16 and a half years and 92 days because frankly that was a random stab in the dark..

And as for sexual feelings as a baby - how do you know? Can anyone here honestly say when they had their first sexual thought? And for that matter how far back can you remember?

Children start having sexual (not procreation) thoughts at around 5 or 6. Masturbation begins about then. Feelings toward other humans sexually, begins sometime after puberty. That`s the popular scientific explanation.

That is something a homophobe would say.

I wonder - would a gay person take offence to that statement.. Excuse me sir, because you (through no fault or control of your own) are gay serve no purpose in life and you are selfish.

Like I said, history and science goes against you.. Some of the greatest men and women and influential figures in history were gay.. it had nothing to do with what they contributed to this earth and they probably served more of a purpose than you could ever hope to achieve by producing more homophobe miscrient offspring.

Elle, just so you know, when people are backed into a corner, or are being met with a challenge they cannot handle, they tend to lash out or become angry. Can you not debate without being childish, or are you just appalled by people with a differing opinion than yours?

I plainly said he was my wife`s brother, not a friend. We are friendly true, but that wasn`t what I said. Did you read my argument?

OK so I`ve read all these posts and come to conclusion that you`re all ignorant. You can`t run around saying people are "homophobes" because you disagree with their arguments. Homosexuality does interupt the natural desire to proliferate the species. However, there is speculation that the development of homosexuality is natural reponse to population control. The individual who said the earth is not overpopulated is wrong in the sense that while the Earth could potentially be sustained with a greater population, ecologically it was never supposed to handle the onslaught of the human boom. We are space and resource sucking monsters as far as nature is concerned. Homosexuality is not wrong, selfish, or lazy. Many homosexual couples do have children, particularily the women. There are no answers here, only speculation. Prentending you have the answers only makes you look foolish.

    Bumble

    Aptly named there.

"Homosexuality does interupt the natural desire to proliferate the species."

No. Many heterosexual have no desire to reproduce, many homosexuals do. Sexual orientation is independent of fertility and urge to reproduce.

You are trying, clearly, but still have a lot to learn, and it would help if you stop projecting heterosexist assumptions onto the lives of GLBTQ people.

"You can`t run around saying people are "homophobes" because you disagree with their arguments. "

Depends on the argument. If the `argument` is that GLBTQ people are inferior, then the person making that argument is a homophobe.

"Prentending (sic) you have the answers only makes you look foolish."

You did a great job of that for yourself.

lmao 80%?! That`s funny. "According to the U.S. Census Bureau 2000, 1.5% label themselves as gay. The 10% quoted is a myth. According to polls and public advocacy groups, at least 10% of the United States population labels themselves as homosexual.
Many groups sympathetic to homosexual rights say 10% of the populace is homosexual. More neutral sources speak of 3 to 5 percent. The truth may be a matter of how one defines "homosexual""
    There`s the actual percentage.

They may not say "I`m straight!", but anytime they mention their significant other, or any other mention of liking the opposite sex, they`re broadcasting the same message. Heureux. I mean that simply by engaging soley in homosexual acts, according to any theories surrounding the function of sexuality, it does impede the natural desire to proliferate the species, in that it is simply impossible to concieve through same sex intercourse.

I`m not sure what I projected? I didn`t insinuate that people of any non-hetero status can`t, won`t, or shouldn`t have children. All I did was give a small insight into the biological aspect of homosexuality in terms of advancing the species.

I also included the part about it only being speculation, because I don`t have answers. I am extremely critical of my own convictions and in no way shape or form think that I can educate anyone on the subject, however, I do take offence to extremists on either side of the issue. If you don`t want to delve into the idea of "Why am I gay" I think you`re as bad as the people who think it`s "just plain wrong". What`s wrong with examination?

    Hiromi, he was being sarcastic.

As far as the overpopulation argument goes, it is a fallacy.

Yes there are countries that are over populated, but the earth as a whole isn`t even close.

Just in terms of North America, 2% of this continent is developed, and 2% of that is inhabited.

As far as Earth numbers go, the population covers about 25% of LAND on earth, not including Antarctica. Overpopulated?

auburnjunky, you seriously need to educate yourself more on these issues. You`re grossly overgeneralizing homosexuals -- many of whom have children or would adopt if adoption agencies didn`t discriminate against them (either for being gay or for being unmarried and the only reason they`re not married is because the government discriminates against gay marriage).

I`d like to know where you got that 2% from because that sounds like a ton of bullpoo to me. Maybe only 2% has buildings on them, but what about the vast land used for agriculture? Or the undeveloped area that`s still owned? You can`t judge population capacity by % of the land developed. If you have 100% developed, then where do you grow food? The earth is becoming overpopulated because we`re using more resources than are available in the long term.

MY BIOLOGY PROFESSORS, who quote scientific studies done by people who actually have PhDs in this poo, say that the carrying capacity (or sustainable population maximum) for humans is between 2 billion and 50 billion. That number may seem like a big range, but it depends on the quality of life for each person. So if there are 50 billion people on this planet, then things like food, water, gasoline, etc. are going to be severely rationed.

So do gay people serve an evolutionary function? Is homosexuality wrong? Well, what about cystic fibrosis? That doesn`t propagate our species and those damn people are so selfish for using up resources NORMAL people could use. Some of them have the nerve to never have children either.

Also, most genetic mutations in any species are not beneficial -- only a few are. Crazy thing is that most of us have a value for life that extends beyond evolutionary usefulness. It`s called being human.

So OBH, Homosexuality is a disease like cystic fibrosis? Or is it a genetic mutation?

Just asking based on your argument.

Also, the Sahara is nearly as big as Europe, and not one person lives there. Siberia is larger than Europe, and has at most 10,000 inhabitants.

My point of all the population talk was, someone said that we were overpopulated. As a whole, the world is not, but there are certain countries are. Expanding on that, India and China aren`t overpopulated, but the cities are. There are vast expanses in both countries that have no inhabitants.

Going back to the Earth running out of resources, Why can`t we come up with alternatives to supplant the use of fossil resources. Like wind or solar?

Auburnjunky the problem with your argument is that your assuming that the entire Earth is a usuable inhabitable place. The percentages you`re giving sound like one thing but mean quite another. We are using up more resources than we are replacing, we are encroaching on inhabitable land for other species. We are overpopulated.

The genetic basis for homosexuality is caused by mutations in DNA -- much like the cosmetic differences between races.

Whether something is a disease or disorder is in the eye of the beholder. I don`t know anyone who considers the color of your skin as a disorder.

Many genetic adaptations in any species are only harmful. But homosexuality doesn`t actually cause any health problems. Like you said, the only way it could be considered "harmful" is from an evolutionary standpoint where they are less likely to pass on those genes. If it is a method of population control -- it`s pretty clever. Gay people prefer to have sex that will never produce children, but are still capable of reproducing.

In the end, who cares if it`s a non-beneficial adaptation? They aren`t a detriment to society (any more than straight people are). Many want the same opportunities for family and career that straight people have. The people who deny them that because of their homosexuality are simply pr

@auburnjunky: Overpopulation isn`t just about the square footage a person takes up. It`s about the resources for people to survive and a planet that can continue to sustain those resources.

And go ahead and move to the Sahara or Antarctica if you think those are a reasonable places to live. Good luck finding the resources that you need to survive!

Sorry -- cut off. The people who deny them that because of their homosexuality are simply prejudice.

There is a biological concept called the law of minimum. It states that the fastest a plant can grow is limited by the resource in least supply.

auburnjunkie, I can apply this to your population assertion. Our population limit is set by the resource in least supply. If we have enough energy for 300 billion people but only enough water for 20 billion, then we only have 20 billion. Even if we find ways of extending our natural resource limit, you have to use other resources (e.g. solar energy = solar panels = raw materials). The closer you get to those limits, the more thinned out those resources become and quality of life decreases.

I think we`re getting close to our "limit" because the natural growth rates for many industrialized coun

@auburnjunky not entirely true. While homosexuals would, for the most part, lay outside the gene pool, there is the care-taking of young to consider. While not in the most direct sense a matter of species propagation, this aspect plays a major role in the process as a whole, and can be performed by surrogate parents should the actual parents prove incapable or unwilling. Just my two cents on your comment.
