It will bring a profit, and hurt the drug cartels supplying the pot now.
no stupid people starts war.
but there will always be `god fearing` imbeciles ruling good ol` us of a and using `religion` as a mask.
I did not in any way actually mean that divorce should be made illegal, I was just making the point that quite often we hear how gay marriage would invalidate the sanctity of marriage. This goes back to the fact that it`s a religious view.
This argument is usually coming from the right wing three time divorcee who`s vowed "til death do us part" in every marriage.
I`m just saying that the divorce rate in this country puts the light to the lie on the religious reasoning, and it comes down to nothing more than homophobia and hate, thinly masked by a religious cover soas to appear to be defending a viewpoint, rather than attacking a lifestyle.
Not my retort (I think it was xxPinkxx), but I love it so that I must repeat it here, original author`s credit:
"Religious types: Don`t like Gay Marriage? Then shut the f*ck up and don`t get one".
Give equality to all or to none. If only some freedoms are recognized for some people, then it really freedom or equality, is it?
Every person has to recognize that the Constitution needs to protect all liberties of all people. If religious people can`t do that, they disgrace the struggles people went through for THEIR religious freedoms.
It`s a LOT worse than that. About 1 million people are arrested each year for posession -- about half of them for the first time. A single pot arrest will cut their lifetime earnings in half, since they can only get low-paying jobs, they spend more time unemployed, and they are denied educational opportunities. Even decades later, their lack of experience keeps them out of high-paying jobs.
I ran the numbers, and it came to about $600,000 in lost GDP for every first-time pot arrest -- about $300 billion per year total.
Add in the cost of eradication, interdiction, enforcement, adjudication, incarceration, coerced "treatment" programs, probation/parole supervision, and all the other problems caused by the criminal underground, and that adds another $100 billion or more.
Considering how the U.S. spends around 7 billion dollars annually on fighting cannabis, and over 7 billion would be made from taxes, we`re losing AT LEAST 14 bil a year.
Carderis: You have a thought provoking and succinct argument which frankly I think does not have some counterattack biblical regurgitation which many cower behind. Well done, I will use this if you don`t mind. (SmilinSam has quoted his line below).
To those who oppose gay marriage, fine. You have your views, I have mine. But do NOT be a craven idiot and say "I do have gay friends", "I support gays, just not giving them the benefits of marriage", or some other bs. If you oppose gay marriage and can`t even tell ME that without also defending yourself, then you are are effectively trying to cover your arse from both sides. Don`t.
Overall, I think we have wasted too much time. Let`s try to legalize gay marriage, at least starting in the U.S. for now, before the president`s term is up. Many people have waited a long time
Oooo, OldOllie, you`re forgetting KINKY sex!
After all, even Paul was thought to be gay.
Anyway, back to the picture: I love the idea! If it`s actually possible, I`d love to register with my girlfriend for when we have our handfasting next year.
It costs a lot of money to buy gifts and food and hire a venue etc for a marriage. Gay marriage being legalized = more marriages = more money being spent and a better economy.
Wait, that`s 2 words.
I`ve smoked too much hooch...
You, sir, are a brilliant man!
The idea of marriage as a male/female unit centered on family is a completely religious concept. Throughout history the "traditional" family unit has been by far the minority. Most commonly children were raised communally and who the father was didn`t matter.
In western religion this is demonized, and because the majority of the posters here are raised in a society where western religion is the norm...
I`ll support your religious driven one man one woman agenda when you add in the entirety of your religious view.
Allow Gay marriage, or make divorce illegal. The "sanctity" of marriage is a lie if your vows mean nothing.
The amount of ignorance you display is astounding.
Can I put you in a tube and prod you with things?
I think the scientific community could really benefit.
Um...straight people don`t just vanish when homosexuality is present you know. "
Lol yup, gay people will be gay no matter if society accepts them as such or not.
Know what that means?
Either way, the gays won`t breed.
Also, despite all of this, are you honestly worried about a population crisis in this day and age? (Speaking to the guy Nido quoted, not Nido)
Um...straight people don`t just vanish when homosexuality is present you know.
@mischeif954 Did I state your name when I wrote that? No I don`t think I did. Yes there are people like you and I and many others that will never do such a thing but again I was referring to people that will so for you to interject your disagreement has no merit to what I was saying.
@goAtluvr7 Yes the Greeks did as well and I do believe you should look into your "facts" on homosexuality in the Roman empire. You might find that what you said is wrong. I hate to quote Wikipedia but there is an interesting little article and after reviewing the sources I must say it has a good backing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexuali...Again sorry for the Wikipedia entry but it is convenient an
"You`re thinking of the Greeks. Specifically, you`re thinking of SOME of the Greeks. Even more specifically, you`re thinking of SOME of the Greeks during SOME of their history. The Romans were not open to homosexuality at all."Their head god, Zeus, was bi-sexual ^^Just wanted to throw that in there =3
Indeed it is, GlooStikk. Indeed it is."
That may be, but GlooStikk is really bad for gay sex (or any other kind of sex, for that matter).
If your logic were correct, then people would not be gay when it`s not socially acceptable.
People ARE gay when it`s socially unnacceptable. Therefore, social acceptability isn`t the primary factor in defining sexuality.
Also: "The Romans were open to homosexuality"
You`re thinking of the Greeks. Specifically, you`re thinking of SOME of the Greeks. Even more specifically, you`re thinking of SOME of the Greeks during SOME of their history. The Romans were not open to homosexuality at all.
Some might think you know not of which you speak, hmm?
Indeed it is, GlooStikk. Indeed it is.
Think he was trying to say if same sex marriage were allowed to marry there would be economic stimulus from the gifts purchased for all the wedding registry.
Erm, how? Those who are gay will still be gay regardless of the marriage opportunities...
