That funny about the wine tasters... I always knew they were full of crap.
I just read the lable on the bottle when no one is looking, then as I drink I babble on about the hint of blackberry with a smokey oak finish etc etc.

I agree with them mostly, The weather forecaster however, I am pretty sure most of them have to actually know stuff about weather patterns and how weather works. And sports writers would have to have some sort of writing skill. (I would think lol)

My parents and I play a game where we hide the labels from each other and try to guess what the label says. My mom can usually identify one or two of the four things the label says, mostly by smell. And she`s not a professional or anything. I`d say the "BS" factor for wine tasters is that anyone off the street could identify the same flavors if they have any familiarlity with wine. Each and every one of us is a "wine taster" if we`ve ever tasted wine.

And, when there was a drought in Bordeaux, France, they bought grapes to make wine from Willamette Valley, Oregon. Many American wines are, in theory, identical to many French wines.

The funny thing is how stupid the writer of the article makes himself look, since all of the listed professions takes a great deal of education and discernment.

That is true. I`m not disputing "some" of them acctually do know about weather and how it works.

What I dispute and have allways disputed, is their ability to accurately predict the weather! It simply cant be done! You can observe weather patterns and predict/guess what "might" happen however. Sadly far too many people confuse "best guess" with "fact".

Ugh, I can`t stand the whole wine tasting thing. I`ve had to go to a posh party once, and one guy there was really uptight about the wine. He made everyone in the room sniff it, swirl it around in their mouth, everyone in the room hated him for that. They all taste the same to me, utter bulls**t. Besides, even if you can tell the difference, it`s f**king wine, just drink it.

With exception to the meteorologists, who at least have to study, all others are more or less self acclaimed "experts". There is no institution to judge their abilities, no competition, no "critic of the critic". Whereever such form of subculture forms there is room for crooks.

In defense of the metorologists, most people misunderstand the whole rain percentage thing to begin with. A 60% percent chance of rain doesn`t mean there is a 60% percent chance it`s gonna rain today. It mean that based on past days that had similar to identical weather conditions it rained 60% of the time. That is why you can have a 60%+ rain chance and nothing happens, the opposite is also true.

I would replace meteorologists with their bastard retarded half-brethren, climatologists. While weathermen can at least predict the weather a day or two out with reasonable accuracy, climatologists totally and epically FAILED to predict the drop in global temperatures over the past ten years, and they got caught red-handed trying to "hide the decline."

I would also add government economic forecasters. Every single time the media report a government statistic such as unemployment, retail sales, GDP growth, trade deficit, etc., the news is ALWAYS "unexpected." They`re a complete waste of oxygen, and they`re all pulling down 6 figures of OUR MONEY!

I do agree, though, the rest of them are all full of steaming poo.

Regarding the "60% chance of rain," what that USUALLY means is that they`re predicting scattered rainfall, and there`s a near 100% chance that about 60% of the area is going to get rain, while about 40% of the area is not.

If you kept records for a particular location over a long period of time, you would find that you get rain just about as often as is predicted, i.e., you would get rain on about half the days where the chance of rain was given as 50%. However, if you kept records for a large area, like a county, you would get rain more often than the predicted probability.
