whomever said that you can`t have an epidural if you have a lower back tattoo is not educated on the matter. I have a tattoo right where they put the epidural and there was no issue with it at all. And the tattoo still looks the same after the epidural.

LOL.. i agree with the commercial... i hope it aired somewhere!!

Im not against tats.. (i dont have any as yet) but im waiting to find the right one.. hasnt happened yet but im sure it will soon as im getting ancy!

But i have a few peircings... tounge, nose, ears.......... mainly the `now days main stream` ones... but when i got them done it wasnt the mainstream so Whateva... lol...

i do think that more ppl should think of the ink or holes they r getting done......it is long lasting and something you should want forever! Especially if you want to become `some one decent` as they say a politician or something.

Hey, you can make you`re own minds up as to whether or not the concerns are legitimate or not, but consider your resources. I`m not saying that it`s necessarily right, but what I`m saying is true in the sense that these policies exist. As far as I`m concerned doctors these days don`t generally make these decisions without some sort of evidence to suggest there is room for questioning. Let`s face it, body mod advocate or not, you must recognize there are potential risks with introducing any foreign material into your body. Not to mention, a doc cannot assertain whether the art you had done was legit. A friend of mine worked in an art store and had to be able to recommend which inks wouldn`t kill you if put in the body. There are enough school yard tats out there to blur the lines.

wow. lot to cover here.
@BumbleBB: No matter what the policy is on such things, an MRI cannot pull ink out of you (the thought is that black tattoo ink has iron elememts and therefore is dangerous) and also any injection/puncture (including an epi) will not bleed out ink. i have personally had a tattoo bitten through (long story) and it healed back to original form.

@ Falloutchik, Greenspark82: a short story: i have a tattoo (NOT the bitten one). i asked the artist to use a deep setting on the needle to allow for scarring. that, plus keloid (look it up) left me with a 3D Tattoo! colored scarring? in this case as requested indeed, yet still to my design and not so indiscriminate or deadly as oh... setting yourself on fire.

Fallout: you have it right.
Greenspark: opinionated much?
Bumble: Policy is more fear than fact.

But if you don`t buy that, then I`ll offer this one up. MRIs will sometimes not be performed on patients with tattoos. Might not seem serious, but as a major diagnostic tool it can be for some people. I`m not judgeing by the way. I have tattoos and all four of my siblings have ink, three of them have extensive work done.

falloutchik. no offence hun, but tell it to me when you`re in labor and delivery and you ask for your epi and I have to say no. The risk of drawing ink into the cerebral spinal fluid is too high. At least that`s the protcol here in Canada.

ok for starters boys and girls, tattoos aren`t scars. a tattoo well taken care of and well done will heal like healthy normal skin, only with pigment beneath the outermost layer of skin. done poorly, an artist can hamburger a tattoo when shading or line improperly causing SCAR tissue. again, done correctly, there is no SCAR tissue, making it not a SCAR. two, that is a big fat crock of poop about the epidural thing. all it is is normal skin with pigment healed into it. the epidural won`t magically make the ink unheal from the skin, turn to liquid and interfere with it. the epi might scar the tattoo is all. the only reason they would avoid doing the epi would be if the tattoo was still in the initial healing stage because of infection risks.

because doctors dont want to interfere with the ink and with an epidural, it normally goes right where most women get tramp stamps

"if you put a big ol tatty on your back and then get pregnant you can kiss that lovely epidural good-bye."

???
Please explain. I do not and will not ever have kids, but I`m really curious about this. Why would a tattoo on a woman`s back be grounds for denying her this kind of anesthesia?

A tattoo is a scar. Albeit, a colorful one but still a scar. If someone likes scar tissue this much why don`t they just set themselves on fire for thirty seconds and then jump in a lake.

IT`S A JOKE!!! IT`S SATIRICAL AND IRONIC!!! DON`T TAKE IT SO SERIOUSLY!!!

You just can`t teach stupid.

On a more serious note. Some tattoos really do have certain consequences. For example if you put a big ol tatty on your back and then get pregnant you can kiss that lovely epidural good-bye.

Piercings aren`t permanent. if they were, they would not close up. and even if they were, you could just take the jewelery out and no one would be able to tell. Of course, I don`t know about the gauging or whatever. but that is retarded looking regardless of your age.
Who aspires to be a bank teller, anyway?

I have two tattoos one in my arm and one very visible on my wrist. I work for the largest financial company in the world. I hold a level 3 position meaning there is only two more level positions between me and the CEO. Never let anyone tell you, you cannot be this or that because of the way you look, or chose to look. And refuse to be anywhere you will be graded on anything but merit alone. That is my philosophy.

You`ll not the people in that commercial work in a tattoo parlor, and are advocates for body modification. I myself have a few tattoos, each I wear with pride. I am not so vain as to say that I spurn being part of society, because that itself is another form of fitting in with a different crowd. I am just myself.

Hmmmm most piercings aren`t that permanent..q you just remove them.. and you will be left with at most... a speck on your face.. OH noes... And I have a great big massive tattoo on my back... It took me over a year to design and re-design and everytime I look at it I feel the swelling of pride for the art I have created.. its on my back so can only be seen by me unless I choose to show it... and I have never had anything but amazingly positive comments.. I say do what you like with your body just make sure you like it.. the people that take time to decide if its what they truly want rarely regret it.. and I can say I still love it now a few years on.. who knows what I will think in future...

Love my tattoo, love my piercings.
The job I`m looking into won`t probably care what I have on my body anyway, as long as the work is done well.
The job I have now deals with customer service, and my boss hired me with my lip ring. She didn`t say anything when I got my tattoo (on my wrist, so it`s visible), or any other piercings I have.
I think once someone complained about my lip piercing. And that`s because they lied, saying I was touching it, then handling their food (lie because if I touched it with my dirty hands, it would be infected).
I`m thinking of getting another one, but I want to wait until I`m 100% sure that I love it. It took me 2 years to make sure I wanted the first one I got.

ah, lol...someone lose an R?

DUbblecoMB: "If people will deny me a job simply because of my art, they can jump out a window"
you still have some growing up to do child..

i like tattoos, the only thing that stops me from getting one is the thought that it could come out ugly as funk. my sister-in-law has three horrifying tattoos, including one tramp stamp. my eyes burn each time i accidentally see them. i would really hate myself if a tattoo i made would come out as bad..

tattoos are art, but even the most talented painters/sculptors/musicians/etc. Know When to Stop! crazy body moders should too.

This is quite insulting, and plus thats probably not what the people in the vid actually think themselves. Makes no sense.

Plus i have numerous piercings and tattoos, and never made children cry. Sometimes they follow me around my work cos they re fascinated by me.

I currently have three tattoos; one on my left shoulder, one on my right, and a full left arm sleeve that I`ve been working on for the past few months, that`s almost done. All together, I`ve spent 14 hours so far getting my work done, and all that pain has been in the name of art. Not to mention I want MORE. Tattoos are a means of expression when they`re done right, and I will NEVER regret all the time, effort, and money I`ve put into mine. I spent months working with my artist to plan every tattoo carefully, and I`m sure of myself. If people will deny me a job simply because of my art, they can jump out a window.

boo! This would have made more sense if people with tattoos were not saying it, only because what they are saying is what other people say. It makes me feel like this spot is a joke, and they are just doing it for shock to get attention . . .attention for what you say? Their m`fing tattoo shop! I love my tattoos, and wouldn`t give them up for anything . . . live your own life ppl!

Or how about just getting one where only you and a few people know you have it? Like the one on my back. Only the people who know I have it are those who have seen me with shirt off. So that means, the drunks at the party saw it, my girlfriend saw it, and I showed it to my buddies.
Those who don`t know are my parents, children, etc.

i have a friend who has all kinds of tattoos on his hands and lower arms (and a crappy one on his neck) and he complains that he cant find a job.
i decided that all my ink is gonna be concealable by a t-shirt until i run out of room, by that time i should have some sort of career.

Dragonlord did you watch the whole video?

Cobrakiller I think they were going for a reverse psychology kind of satire.

Still not a great comercial though.

I don`t think they`re trying to reduce anything. If they were they`d be showing some really bad tattoos, no their own. Their own tattoos are a sort of advertising.

Cobra, I think they are just trying to reduce the number of kids that go in there and get ugly stupid tattoos, like me when I was 17. This will allow them to give real good artistic tattoos and therefore enhance their craft.
