It`s box wine... That`s a waste of bad alcohol.

P.S. For the people calling BS, the wine bag is usually metal foil... ever microwaved tin foil? (please don`t, I donwanna get sued...)

This reminds me of Glühwein, a German mulled wine (warm wine) recipe.
Man that stuff is nice on a cold day...
*slides off to happy warm memories*
Anyway, this here is a waste of good alcohol. >-(

It`s fake. the "is it a good idea to microwave this?" guys on youtube analyzed the video. there was most likely a firework hidden out of site in the microwave.

"Dude, if a bag of whine exploded like that there would be sticky wine goo everywhere. yet the aftermath video shows everything clearly bone dry. Fake ass video."

What happens when you heat a liquid? What happens when warm pressurized liquid spontaneously unpressurizes?

Chemistry.

Ahhh wine casks! Take them out of the box and then see how far you can squirt them into someone`s mouth. Better than microwaving good wine.

@router

oh ok...i admit i know nothing about what happens with molecules and all, but i can say, one time i put food in the microwave with an aluminum spoon still in the bowl...it made crackling and exploding noises like tiny firecrackers and was extremely hot...all that was pretty quick, cuz i stopped the microwave, of course lol

Normally I would try and wonder what in the living hell was in that wine box that made that kind of explosion.

But god DAMN that was a sweet explosion and I really don`t care how it happened at this point.

What`s all this talk about aluminum? Every big box of wine I`ve ever seen is just a somewhat heavy duty plastic bag of wine in a cardboard box. The small juice box wines are lined yeah, but I`ve never seen a box that size lined w anything. This is from a drinking and bartending standpoint

Why the drat would someone waste a perfectly good box of wine like that? It may just be that I`m a wino but that`s like....alcohol abuse

Faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaake. First of all, the aluminum packet would have destroyed the megnetron way before 4 minutes. Second, there would be no embers in a liquid/metal explosion, you need paper/wood/chemical for that.

TheGax, What happens with a microwave is that the molecules of a non-metal such as water or fat absorb the energy form the microwave therefore heating it. Aluminium or any other metal for that matter does not absorb the energy it reflects it.

actually, router...if you put aluminum in a microwave it would catch fire...at least that`s what happened to me

lsk277 Microwave radiation cannot pass through aluminium. See how long it takes for a TV dinner to cook it it was wrapped in aluminum foil...

it would have exploded, but certainly not in that manner. analyze the mechanical fail points of the microwave as a structure.

hollywood gets this wrong a great deal as well. interesting thing, though. pressure vessel rapid self-dissasembly is always cool.:-)

First time I hear of wine coming in boxes.

Male 21
How can you not get it ?
This is not a question of heat or pressure or flame.
In these kind of "box", fluid are indeed contained in an aluminium pocket.
And aluminium is metal.
Metal + microwave = booums.

My bet is : not fake.

Heck, no. Wine is mostly water; there`s not enough alcohol there to produce a fireball. Maybe if you filled the box with vodka it would work. More likely the video creators just spliced the explosion in with video editing software. Either that, or they put an actual explosive in the wine box.

Of course, you can produce an explosion of sorts from the steam pressure of the boiling water/alcohol. But that would take longer than five minutes, would only produce a bang rather than a fireball, and would probably be a lot less destructive.

I think it`s possible. There is alcohol in the wine, which once it reaches a certain temperature would start to burn. Not to mention all the other hot liquid expanding inside the bag. Expanding liquid short circuits the microwave which ignites the alcohol.

Male 504
It is somewhat possible as long as air can`t escape the box.

i`m usually not one to call fake, but that looks too fake to me. not the aspolosion, the thought of a box of wine DOING THAT is fake.
