Why do we put so much interest in news where something bad happens to lots of people or something good happens to one person... but never the opposite?

Do they have nothing else to report?

America must be a painfully boring place to live, if this passes as news.

@LazyMe484: So you have a problem with GOOD news being reported along with all of the horrible sh*t that happens on this planet everyday?

"America must be a painfully boring place to live, if this passes as news."

I`m sure that your part of Canada sets the world standard for excitement.

What say you let us boring Americans enjoy an occasional bit of good news?

Good job on the part of the LAFD. I live with dogs, so stories like this make my day a little brighter

Human life should never be used to save dogs, engangered animals like whales, dolphins, etc. But some stupid mangy dog. What if that guy died, what are you going to tell his wife "He drowned to save a dog?!?!"

    Bremir, get a life
and Star Dagger, why shouldn`t people rescue animals who are in danger like this dog?? IMO, people are no more important than an animals life.. if they can help them, then do it.. there`s heaps of stories of people drowing while trying to save pets.. a few weeks ago in NZ two brothers died trying to save their dog that feel through some ice.. sad, but heroes all the same

They save human lives every day and not news. Then save one dog and suddenly heros to the media.

Bugger the dog, they was already great people before the dam dog. Just sadly alot of people reguard saving animals is a bigger achivement... that or a bus full of children.

Human (or sentient) life is worth more than a dogs, by light years.
If the firemen had nothing better to do, and could do it safely, then fine, save the mutt. But putting yourself in danger for a dog is stupid.
And you didnt answer my question, would you want to stand before his wife and 4 kids and tell them that the center of their world, that strong heroic man died saving a dog?!?!?!

I also agree that firemen are heroes, because they run into burning buildings to carry people out.

    Yours in saluting the Heroes,
    Star*Dagger

Actully Evil Eye every single swiftwater rescue of a human get the news chopper coverage, LAFD does about 8-12 human rescues like that a year according to the fireman ho was on te news last night and the news crews always try to be there. Just the other day I watched them pull two boys from the river on the local tv station. It is news, but it happens more often than this making this bigger news (and now, a `viral` video). also, the dogs response made this a little bigger a story than it might have been.

Wow nice to see a good news story for a change. Good to see that people still have a heart about things to take the time to save the dog. This video really made my day :)

    -----------------------
    On a sadder note.

Ps Bremir it is common for serial killers, rapist etc to start off by hurting animals, before moving on to people.

People with your opinions should be banned from sites like this...if only IAB had the balls to do it.

There was a fire in my neighborhood recently, and the firemen rescued a dog that was inside. It was incredible to see 4 - 5 people working on dog to get him breathing again. He did finally come to albeit a bit dazed.

I wouldn`t be able to do that. A dog biting me has been one of biggest fears since I can remember. I`ll drive the helicopter, though!!

@hoolahawk - I agree with your psychological assessment of the beginnings of a serial killer, but I don`t agree with IAB not having balls to deal with people like that :P Didn`t you see what happen to our biggest cat hater ever? Of course... maybe you`re right, because it did take a seriously morbid description to get him banned :/

@LazyMe484 - It`s not that we`re boring, it`s that the only news we ever really hear about involves someone dieing, killing, raping, robbing, kidnapping, molesting, etc. It`s nice to hear some good news for once, even if it is just about someone saving a dog :)

hoolahawk - Who said I hurt animals?

People like yourself, who are over sensitive about every little thing that is said, should not be allowed on a website where you will find a wide variety of opinions.
