IT IS CHEAP
umm hate to break it to you but the Xbox 360 is a much better gaming machine for true gamers. the PS3 has the stupidest games and crap for an online community.
you sound like a ps3 fanboy...sad fanboys still exist but someone has to be the douchbags
that aside out of the consoles the 360 is the best for pure gamers. ps3 has the graphics but the games are lame and so is their online community. 360 online is so much more developed.
wii-well it just plain sucks and is losing ground big time. i dont think nintendo will make another console that will compete as well as the wii did.
anywho that is my 2 cents and then some
The oldest gamer I know is in her 70s. She got into it when one of her grandkids got a NES not long after they came out.
I go back to the ZX-81, which my parents bought me in 1981. I wasn`t really a gamer until I bought the Spectrum I spent 6 weeks picking fruit for 30 hours a week to save up for. £180 was a lot of money for a 13 year old in 1982. So I`ve been a gamer for over 27 years.
amen to that
truer words have never been spoken
...Real gamers play on a Pc -.-
Dude, the Wii is cheaper than the PS3 or Xbox360, what are you talking about?
Letting dust build up in it, allowing the console to overheat, tipping the console on its side while there is a disc running in the machine... all can contribute to the dreaded Red Ring of Death.
That`s amusing. How do they mistreat it? Stick it on a shelf and turn it on occasionally?
You do not understand statistics.
I don`t care if people claim i`m a noob or a casual gamer. I have fun with the games I do play and I`m damn good at them if I do say so myself.
I bought my first PC in 1991. I use my PC about 6 hours a day on average, although not all for gaming. I have had 1, just 1, major hardware failure and that was a cheap PSU. Don`t buy cheap PSUs - it`s a false economy. This is normal for PCs - you expect the hardware to work until you decide to upgrade it. I still have working PC hardware over 10 years old and for all I know my original 18 year old hardware is still working somewhere.
Then, for people like me, there`s the fun of building, choosing hardware and of tweaking settings. Overclocking is a game in itself that just can`t be played on any console.
I guess I spend about an hour a week in total on my DS and Wii.
Console games are simplified to fit the limited input systems (i.e. the controllers). So, for example, console games do part of the aiming for you in FPS games. Games that can`t be simplified enough simply aren`t made for consoles.
One of the complaints with PC gaming is that too many games are simplified for consoles and then badly ported to PC, so they don`t make use of the PC`s superior input systems, graphics, etc.
Or I can just pop uncharted 2 into my PS3. Same thing but a hell of lot cheaper and simpler.[/quote]
A budget CPU and low midrange (or even high budget) graphics card has more power than a PS3 and a PC can use the same TV and speakers that you would be using on a PS3.
So you`re just plain wrong.
my brothers had 3 xbox 360s cause they all died and xbox refused to repair them. in 2 years. We`ve had the same Wii for 3 years ish and nothing have ever gone wrong...The best one was out PS2 which we had for easily 6+ years and when I finally took her to the tip I shed a small tip. She never once froze on me!
I`m on my second 360 so that, for me, is a failure rate of 50% so these statistics do lie.
Oh and for the record. A friend of mine is a game producer and QA manager. He told me the developers find it easier and have more success porting games accross to the 360 as it is closer to the machines they build the games on. PS3 games are harder to code as the processors work differently.
@ steelman:*coughoverlyobvious360fanboy*My husband played his 360, on average, ten or less hours per week.... It Ringed in less than six months. Which, that`s kinda bad, even for 360, but the statistics don`t lie... D:
The old "Delete Post" plus copy-paste combo is your friend.
Makes me kinda ashamed.
"18 hours a week"
pssshhhhh light weights. I was putting that in daily on WoW when I was playing (promise...not addicted)
PS2 isn`t done with sales, they still make games for it, though I don`t know if they`re still making consoles...
sad to see mario bros fall to Wii Sports, happy to see Mario, Tetris, Pokemon, and Duck Hunt (although, is duck hunt only up there because it was combo`d with Mario?)
If mine breaks after warranty I am not buying another one, that`s for sure. t(o.ot)
lets figure $600 if you bought it on release, your large screen tv probably costing 1,800 and then of course the cost of the game, we`ll say 60, and your surround sound system about 200 for decent speakers. now i didnt shop for deals obviously but right there, thats $2,660 about 1000 dollars more than i spent on my top of the line, custom built pc. granted i could have gotten a bigger monitor, but 19" is big enough for me. so price point wise, shut the drat up
On topic I for one think PCs have the potential to be the superior platform, especially considering how certain genres are alot easier to play and control on a PC (thinking MMOs, FPS and strategy). The reason most surveys and some games ignore it is that you have to spend more money more often to keep up than if you just bought a new console every 4 years. Having said that I`m all PC these days so I might be biased :P.
Or I can just pop uncharted 2 into my PS3. Same thing but a hell of lot cheaper and simpler.
huh, a lot of posts from me here. OK I`m done.
That`s a deeply flawed argument, because PCs can use console-style controllers. So you have a far wider choice of console-style controllers on a PC than you do on a console. It`s just that nearly all PC gamers don`t use them because they lack the precision, flexibility and ease of use than mouse+keyboard has. The only type of game that doesn`t suit mouse+keyboard very well is driving games (which still work just as well on a keyboard as on a gamepad).
The games are roughly on a par with free browser games on a PC. It isn`t really gaming. It`s fun in its way and it is playing games, but it`s very different from proper gaming. I`ll play a Wii game by myself for maybe 10 minutes at a time. I`ll play a PC game by myself for maybe 10 hours at a time. The depth of the games is completely different.
It isn`t heading downhill as much as the media wants people to think it is.
Often, all PC gaming is ignored. At the very least, much PC game sales are ignored. Seriously - charts and suchlike rarely if ever count anything other than boxed retail sales. Some don`t even count boxed retail sales from online-only shops, or even not from any online shops. This hugely biases sales figures against PCs, because nowadays a very large proportion of PC sales are downloads from businesses like Steam.
Computers are best for gaming because the mouse is so helpful! And most computers are more powerful than consoles anyway. "
I know it does have a PC version... but try playing Katamari Damacy or DDR on the computer.
Not so fun.
You couldn`t be more wrong. Nowadays, a low midrange PC has more power than any console. A PS3 was almost on a par with PCs when it came out, but that was eons ago in terms of PC hardware.
PCs have far more powerful CPUs, far more powerful GPUs, far more memory, far more video memory, faster interconnects, more storage and faster storage (and at a fraction of the price). More powerful audio processors too. The hardware is superior in every way.
Then there`s input devices. Mouse and keyboard offers far more precision and flexibility than any gamepad...but you can plug a wide selection of gamepads into a PC if you want to, as well as steering wheels (better ones for PC than consoles, too).
Games are cheaper on PC as well, because of the lack of licensing fees to console manufacturers.
i completely agree, the wii is fun for like an hour. i played golf with my friends, then it got really boring and i went home and played MW2 on my PS3 for hours.
Computers are best for gaming because the mouse is so helpful! And most computers are more powerful than consoles anyway.
No.Yea, there are "gaming" computers but they can only do so much (as in a little.), whereas an actual console is meant for games. MMORPGs suck anyway.
I agree, people who think playing wii makes them a gamer are sadly mistaken. To be a gamer you have to be so into a game you either 1. Play it for 24 hour periods or 2. Give up dinner so you can keep playing.
Just because I`m not shooting limbs off things doesn`t mean I`m not gaming XD
I`ve played 18 hours in a day before, 15 year-olds have that kind of time.
obviously you do not have kids or a geek for a hubby :)
