"BMI is a bad way to measure if someone is overweight but that fact should not be used as defense for gross fat people. Fat is fat no matter how you measure it."

exactly. I`m 210lb 5`10"
I`m not a body building type, I just have really broad shoulders, large legs (soccer player). float test 14% body fat

BMI index - overweight pushing obese

Further proof that B.C. is the greatest part of Canada.

Honestly, though, I have no idea why this is. I always assumed that American health statistics applied to us as well, as our diet is pretty much the same as theirs (the amount of fast food resturants around here prove that). I suppose it could be because of a high amount of nature preservation (including hiking trails) that promote a healthier lifestyle, and near Vancouver we don`t get nearly as much snow as other parts of Canada (especially the territories), which means going out for a stroll or to go jogging may be more common.

Or it could be something in the Tim Hortons coffee.

I can vouch for that, Boadicea. I emigrated to your fine country on wednesday this week, and it`s -10 outside, -20 with the wind chill. What the f*ck have I gotten myself into?

"Canada - Fewer fat people, better health care, better beer, mellower pot-smoking laws... anything NOT to like about Canada?"

The soul-killing cold my friend, the cold.

LOL!
My state is the leanest of them all XD
Then again, us mountain folk have to hunt our food! Why, we even shake hands with Bigfoot. Not like you Texans and your bagel shops.

"I just realized... I need to move to one of these "extreme fat" states. I`ll have the exclusive on all the cute small size clothes! O_O
I am genius."
Wrong. That would be true for a short period of time, but since the data would suggest they have much fattier foods, you would end up gaining weight as well.

ya, boadicia. i agree. there are overweight people here in canada- i myself have a few to lose- but nothing like in the states.

once i went there on vacation,. i was so self conscious of wearing my bathing suit. once i was in anaheim, however, i was the skinniest person there. here im like one of the fattest.

and the portion sizes of food at resteraunts are out of control!! a meal is enough for 3 people!

caker- i think they go by the doctors office weigh ins, or go by a couple hundred people who volunteer for a study.im in bc. there are a lot of asian and east indian people here, who are generally slimmer. plus here on the west coast, its warmer, we excercise more ( have lots of hiking and stuff) and eat a healthier diet in general ( salmon, etc)

woah. guess i had a lot to say on this matter. lol

"True, BMI is a pooty measurement system, but do you think you`re suffering from an over abundance of fat people, or super buff body builders?"
They don`t take into consideration that muscle weighs more than fat.

@neosophist: Excuse me? Better beer? I wouldn`t call the piss sold there for beer. The big brand ones, anyway.

I`ll freely admit that there are probably loads of micro-breweries that make very good beer, but that goes doubly here in Europe.
BMI is a horrible way to measure to anything. Look at schwarzenegger when he was younger, technically morbidly obese and european. just saying. any heavy lifter, most marines and spec ops guys are morbidly obese, tell that to their faces and see what happens. BMI should be gone and a better system put in place. drating ignorant ass europeans bitching about BMI shows proof.
Exactly. BMI is sh*t.

BMI can be a very good indicator as long as you use electric currents.

leesah, the point i was trying to make with alaska is that even though it is seperate from the continental united states, it too is obese. which is weird because the canadian provinces around it are all much less in the fatty category.

Cobra, if you use logic, you`d understand why people in Alaska are a bit heavier in terms of BMI. The climate is much colder up there and, like every other mammal of cold climates, people with extra fat stay warmer.

I can`t think of any good excuses for the lower states though, I blame lack of self-control.

"fatness based on BMI"

yeah, you can ignore this chart. BMI is no way to determine obesity, let alone any kind of body fat.
