Um, it looks like an iPhone on steroids. What do you think I-A-B? Is it worth it?

Vindictive - wrong - not synthetic - it`s a loop of Ben Folds` cover of In Between Days, which is actually a great version. If you haven`t heard Ben Folds lately, give him another chance, cause he rules.

I have a few things to say on this as a former iPhone user. First, if you have an iPod Touch, you`re fine. I haven`t found an MP3 player that will stack up yet so we have that. The iPhone probably would have been a decent phone if AT&T had shored up their network before putting that data hog on it. Now, this thing...come on.

Seriously, I`m wondering just how many people are actually going to spend about $130 per month just to put that thing online. It looks nice and looks like it will work with current apps but I don`t think anyone but early adopters are going to go for it.

Wayhey, Apple release yet another overpriced fashion accessory. I love how he claimed that netbooks were slow and had low quality display when the Samsung NC10 has a faster processor and an almost identical resolution to the iPad.

the music in the background is a synthetic version of `in between days` by the cure. i had to point this out because it`s my favorite song of all time. and i`m a little pissed they turned it into this cell-phone ringtone type thing for an apple endorsement.

Hansbo, trust me, this is not irrational hatred. Although I personally don`t much like apple products, I would be as unimpressed with this product no matter who made it.
And of course the internet cares. Why would you say such a thing.

There`s nothing that makes people more angry than a new Apple product.

Honestly, if you`re not impressed, just don`t buy it. The internet doesn`t care about your irrational hatred of everything Apple.

As for the iPad, I like the concept, but I would have preffered to see it with a real OS. If I hadn`t had a laptop, I would probably use it for surfing in bed/doing work at school. It`s pretty hot.

It`s an oversized iPod Touch. NO multitasking, NO webcam, NO phone, NO usable storage space, NO USB ports, NO microphone, NO desktop OS, NO handwriting recognition, AND inferior hardware. On top of that, you`re required to use AT&T`s already overloaded network if you want 3G. NO thanks.

You know, Baalthazaq, when it comes to Apple, I think only their iPod was a true "success". Not saying all their other crap isn`t a "success", since they`ve sold tons of laptops and iphones, so profit wise, huge success. However it is the only device they`ve made that is actually affordable, useful and fills a real demand (although I still hate iTunes).

The only good things I have to say about other Apple products is that they are pretty, their interfaces are well thought out and their marketing is epic.

Davek1013... but it doesn`t play (real) games. Does it even have a CD drive? It hardly has any power at all.

My laptop can do everything any stupid app can do and much more. Maybe not with cool transition animations and fancy multi touch technology, but I definitely prefer function over form when it comes to a computer. This barely even qualifies as a computer.

Male 26
It`s a bigger ipod touch, for as much money as an ipod touch. Guess people that bought an itouch are going to be pretty livid about it.

Idk, seems very gimmicky. I hate typing on a touch screen. Seems like a toy for some people and useful for even less people.

It just looks like a toy, a ridiculously expensive toy that you could probably buy an above average laptop for the price. Also, why iPad? its too similar to iPod, it sounds like what a wisconsinite would call his iPod.

Its cool for the 20-something yuppie fresh out of college so he can get modern tech-cred with all his grad school buddies. But for anyone else, get a damn laptop.

0

Male 90
angillon, this product sure aint for you. But there`s a large group of people who will buy into the ease of use and coolness factor of the ipad. Its clearly apples answer to the netbook. And whoever thinks this thing will have less features than a netbook clearly hasn`t seen the App store. When you consider what you cannot run on your typical netbook, having 100% application compatibility is avery attractive feature.
Thats not saying I`ll buy one. I prefer a laptop

Male 483
I absolutely hate that video. All those people are far too enthusiastic towards the product. It`s almost scary.

The Ipad is probably going to be a huge hit, primarily because of all the people out there who believe they "need" something like this.

Why not buy a laptop? More power, more memory, more practical.

Don`t take me to be an apple hater though, I`ve recently bought an Iphone, and it`s the best phone I`ve ever owned. I just really dislike the idea behind this product.
Some apps are cool, but it does everything a normal laptop does, except stand up on it`s own.
That`s nowhere near being true. It lacks a lot of the functionality of a laptop. No keyboard, extremely low processing power, poor graphics in comparison, extremely small display, a non-standard format deliberately created to ensure customers don`t get a free choice of what to run on it, limited connectivity, limited storage capacity, no upgrading possible, relatively expensive...it is inferior to a laptop in every way except weight (and a small laptop is hardly heavy).

Not being able to stand up by itself is far and away the least important drawback of this device, not least because it`s the only one that can be fixed. They can sell you an istand for your ipad. Of course, you`d need to buy a new ibag that will carry both the ipad and the istand. Of course, the istand and the ibag will also be over-priced. Of course ipeople will buy them anyway.
I vote it will be a moderate success, not like the iPhone or iPod, but still a success.
I agree.

However, that doesn`t mean that it`s a good product. It`s still a crap product, but it will be well made and extremely well marketed and that`s enough. `i` is a very successful fashion brand, successful enough to carry something that combines the disadvantages of a laptop with the disadvantages of a handheld and has the advantages of neither.

"It`s just a laptop then?"

Yes.
However:
The I-Phone was just a phone.
The I-Pod was just an MP3 player.

I like it, I`m considering getting one, but not for any of the reasons listed in this video.

I vote it will be a moderate success, not like the iPhone or iPod, but still a success.

Feel free to read this thread, then look online for old threads when the iPhone and iPod first came out. ;)

did you even visit the link? how can you claim to know the CPU speed w/o seeing the cost (blatantly splattered on the screen)...

my favorite part about the price "unbelievable price", yeah it is unbelievable you`d charge that much.

we`ll compare the 32gb models to be fair
iPod touch - $299 - wifi
iPad - $599 - wifi
iPhone - $499 - wifi & 3g
iPad - $729 - wifi & 3g

yes, its a larger screen, but its no longer a mobile device, plus the iPhone has the benefit of being *gasp* a phone...albeit a crappy one, still a phone.

I don`t know which is sadder (more sad?)....that sheeple will flock to it or that I know someone personally who will

$500 will get you a reasonably decent small laptop that will be greatly superior.

"Write an email"...without a keyboard. Touchscreens are abysmal for typing because they lack (ironically) a sense of touch.

I like the idea of e-readers, but I`m definitely not spending that much money on one. I just got a tablet PC for birthday/Chanukkah/graduation, and might actually download the software to use it as an e-reader. Let`s see for just over $1000 (including the reading software) I get card slots for nearly unlimited memory, a color touch screen, fast processing power, wireless internet access, and all the other wonders of a laptop. Or, for $500, I get an e-reader that lets me...read. And nothing else.

its slightly smaller than a sheet of notebook/printer paper...and they expect people to be totting it around everywhere? I see it replacing stuff at home (mainly laptop people who also have a desktop) but I don`t see the need for 3G. it`s the first step to the digital newspapers we see in futuristic movies, there`ll be a better one down the road.

look, apple again is stealing someone else`s idea, mixing in slightly more stuff, and claiming it original. they`re just mixing the iPod touch with Amazon`s book reader.

what would suck is if the software sucked for books. imagine it can`t keep bookmarks for more than one book, or at all

Speaking as a total Mac Fanboy who`s been waited with bated breath for it: Meh, I`m disappointed.

Q. Will it replace my laptop?
A. No, my laptop does a lot more, a lot faster, a lot better, around the house. And if I want all those things when I`m out and about, I`m not going to be carrying a clipboard sized thing with me, I`d rather have an iTouch or iPhone (which I don`t, because they don`t do enough).

Overall, its really hard to see how Steve expects this to (a) replace or (b) enhance my current computing experience. And if it does neither of them, its a big Fail.

Start calling it the Newton 2010. Everything the iPad does, with the exception of video, was in the original Newton, at least in concept. The iPad will join the original Newton before long if it isn`t upgraded to be a REAL computer.

I think Corydoras is joking. This is obviously sarcasm, he sounds too much like the stereotypical Apple-tard.

"Apple people sure are full of themselves aren`t they"

You are full of yourself too.. or is someone else ehm.. full inside you? Of course they can be prouf of themselves.. the people at apple did something that, as the video explains, nobody else can do because apple brings all the technology in place on their own.. they don`t rely on products from a different producer for every part.. theirs fit to each other and therefor can be smaller to achieve the same performance than others while being more efficient.. perfect deal for a century where electronics don`t need to be bulk and huge to be cool.. it has become a lifestyle product.. live with it or die hunting bugs crawling on your knees through your room-sized giant computer

"cool toy...but still a toy like most apple products. "

You mean like beepers and cell phones were cool toys?

Primetimekin`s Wild Prediction: Every high school student will have one of these (not necessarily apple but something similar to this), in 10 years. And not as a toy, but as another tool in school

Ok, they sell a keyboard dock. Perfect for a living room computer. I`ll buy one when I`m next in the market for an around the house computer.

Looks perfect for using while sitting on the couch while watching tv, just lounging around, and I can use a keyboard if I have to.

People here are calling this an iTouch -- and I think they`re right. If so, there`s some work that needs to be done still.

Is it a computer? Like, can I network with other pcs, transfer files and so forth?? Or is it just a big fricken ipod? Can I attach a keyboard to it if I wanted?

Why shouldn`t I buy a netbook, that is, you know, a computer that I can type on?

The second I heard about this, I knew it would show up on IAB for everyone to bash (Mainly for its name).

I wish it was named iSlate. And I wish it had a different UI closer to Mac OS than iPhone and also a different hardware design to differentiate itself from the iPhone. But I kinda want one. I could definitely see myself chillaxin in my room watching episodes of Bleach or Facebooking and whatnot.
