Maddog is correct, even if the people had a choice, GOD still decided to bring the great flood, hence, GOD killed those people.

PS. Isn`t our God supposed to be forgiving and compassionate? then why kill them? also, did our God even think about the unborn babies of that time? no! He even killed the innocent and unborn!

maddog: freedom of religion in china? tell that to the underground church, and the ministers of those churches they keep sending to prison/labor camps for umpteen years. Pleaseeeeeeeee. As to the flood - God sent people a way out of the flood, which He is still doing, and people ignored (or chose not to believe it) as they are still doing today. Metaphorically speaking, of course. And communism IS an atheistic system.

Oh my!

A) The flood never happened.
b) By Biblical terms (if it had happened) god DID kill those people. Who sent the bloody flood? Who told Noah to build the ark?

Helllloooo!!!

Are you people really that stupid? Do you acctually read the bible?

No... they did kill themselves...We as human beings are responsible for our own actions and our own choices that we make...God created us with the freedom of choice...so forcing us to do something would be a contradiction of his own words...and Noah warned them what God`s plans were...It was their own stupidity and hardheadedness that was their demise...

"your spectulation of the # of people mostly came from Noah and the Ark. BUT, God did not kill them. They killed themselves. They had the choice to save themselves and chose not to. Oh and how can you have an exact number were you there for any of these times???"

In the case of Noah`s Arc, it was GOD that killed them. Sure they the people had a choice, but the guy with the most power, GOD, chose to kill them instead of using his godly powers save them and force them to repent.

Myth.Isn`t Atheism the Same as Communism?

You clearly are having a problem with this, thus my annoyance at you rolling out Stalin and Communism. I`m not going to dispute that there are plenty of "atheist" ideas in Communism but you are confusing the men with the system. Vladimir Lenin often spoke out against religion and was an atheist yet in communist China "freedom of religion" is more or less guarenteed.

So get your facts right.

Your proping up Stalin as some form of atheistic leader (no such thing) when infact he was a totalitarian, exactly the same thing as Hitler and it is documented he considered himself a Catholic (though he was not a practicing one).
That said, Hitler did a fine job of rallying all the German Christians to get up and fight for him.

However..since you bring up the Crusades that was s

Satan has no power to kill a person. He can persuade a person to kill another or himself, though.

By the way, the crusades were composed by humans. It wasn`t God. If they used God`s name, that`s another story.

@ Lellin

Hitler was raised Roman Catholic but ceased all official religious observance when he became an adult. He did often reffer to the creator in his in some of his speeches and "Mein Kampf" however.
That said, it is documented that in 1941he said to General Gerhart Engel: "I am now as before a Catholic and will always remain so" so one has to assume he thought of himself as catholic. He never left the church and he was never excommunicated (no suprise there).

He wasnt an Atheist either (contrary to what some christians would have you belive).

Atheism not killing anybody? Lenin, Pol Pot anyone?
Communism (an atheist system) has probably killed as many or more than all Christian sects combined.
--------------------------------------------------

And you belive that Myth?

Communism fails because upon implementation it becomes Totalitarian, therefore every so called communist nation is infact a totalitarian nation.

Of course if your stupid enough to belive atheist = communist = cold blooded killer then this is a wasted post, because lets be honest, no one wants to discuss these complicated matters with a retarded cabbage!

Religion is a farce, a list of do`s and don`ts intended to scare you into being a good person. Faith, IMHO, is (or at least should be) entirely different, it should be personal and positive, rather than theologically atheistic and indifferent.

From what limited understanding of the Bible that I have, for I do not consider myself a religious person by any stretch...

I do believe that Satan was supposed to be the originator (cause) of mankind to sin.

And sin = death.

So technically, Satan is the cause of all deaths.

Again, this is from my limited religious perspective, and I`m sure there are the arguments of why God lets people die, but I suppose the answer to that question is based on your particular flavor of religious beliefs.

A few thousand years ago people believed in a god named Odin. They didn`t pretend to believe, they didn`t write about how great Odin was, and then whisper to each other, "lol just kiddin, Jesus is really the cool one!" They REALLY believed in him. Today, people sit around talking about how silly the ancient people were for believing in Odin, all the while, firmly believing in Jesus or Alla or whomever. In a few thousand years, people will sit around laughing at the people of today for believing in Jesus.

What does this mean? Well, I`ll tell ya. I can`t tell ya whether or not there is a god, but I can tell you that the beliefs of a human mean absolutely SQUAT when it comes to determining whether or not there is one.

If you want me to believe that there is a god then you need to offer something stronger than the beliefs of an Odin worshiper as proof. And don`t offer your beliefs, because they aren`t any stronger than the beliefs of that Odin worshiper.

Finally, lets for a moment suggest that EVERYONE IS correct.

Then yes, Jews, Muslims, and Christians have different Gods. Lets go further: As does every individual.

No two people are going to have an identical concept of God, and according to you, a different aspect = an entirely different being.

Male 4,546
Even better example:

You claimed I said "Islamic Belief = Christian Belief". I did not.

You are not talking about some other Baalthazaq, who said these things. You are simply wrong about what this Baalthazaq (the same Baalthazaq you`re arguing (poorly) with) said.

You have not (by drating up what I said) created a second Baalthazaq, nor a third, nor a fourth by drating it up previously.

There is one here, it is me. You`re just wrong about what I said.

NOW, just because Jews claim God did not have a son, does not suggest that they think it must be another God who had a son. They are saying that Christians are mistaken when they suggest God (the God we`ve been discussing the whole time) had a Son.

Seriously, the table analogy and Tom Cruise analogy both work fine.

No wonder you didn`t want to address them and instead made an offhand comment about cats. (Before suggesting *I* don`t stick to the point).

0
Reply
Male 4,546
You again, are not at all addressing the analogies I presented.
They clearly demonstrate how the same object can have different attributes to different people.

There is no need to explain further.

"Just because Islam copies parts of Christianity (in the same way Christianity copies parts of Judaeism) does not mean that Islamic Belief = Christian Belief."

I have never stated that Christian belief and Islamic belief are the same.

You said the word Strawman, to me, and then proceed with arguing against a statement I have never made.

Effectively, your argument is correct on one condition:
Christians, Jews, and Muslims, all agree that everyone else is correct.

They do not.

We are talking about the same God, and simply disagree on whether or not God said circumcision is necessary.

Christians do not believe that a second God called Allah asked for circumcision, they believe that the same God, didn`t.

Again, you are choosing an attribute (and mistakenly representing it).

Both religion`s preach that Jesus was:
Sent by God. Of virgin birth.

The difference is terminology when it comes to parentage. "Son" in Arabic implies sex with God, and therefore is seen as giving God base attributes.

The actual sequence of events are the same however.

The difference is not "Jesus + story + attributes", or "Three heads!".

It is one word.
The sequence of events leading up the the crucification are also the same. the major difference here is in Islam, he was protected by God, in Christianity he was crucified.

There is more than enough information to understand my point here Cat, feel free to catch up at any point.

(Seriously, can you genuinely not distinguish between an argument or do they all simply roll into a ball of "Omg they don`t like me u should date LMAO!"

WHAT? They must all be the same God, they all have 1 head! (or more)
Allah does not have a Son, he cannot be the same God as Christianity. K? Jews do not recognise Christ as the Son of God, so their God is also different.
Simple really.
Now, if YOU believe they`re the same, have fun figuring out the Laws! But don`t go saying silly things like Allah = Yahweh = God The Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit.

Basically it is possible to talk about an object, or a person, and be mistaken about one if it`s attributes, without it being an entirely different object.

If we have a disagreement about a table right in front of us, we are not talking about different tables if I say it is beige and you say it is more light brown.

Same table. Difference of opinion on an attribute.

The same applies to God. Unless you`re not talking about the God that:
Came to moses. Made Adam/Eve. Created the universe. Came to Abraham. Sent Jesus. Sent Noah. Commanded the building of an Arc. Protected Jonah in the belly of the whale. Sent Enoch/Eber/Lot/Ishmael/Isaac/Jacob/Joseph/Job/Jethro /Aaron/David/Solomon/Elijah/Elisha/Ezekiel/Zakariah/
and John the baptist.

But oh! Really? Your (non-traditional) interpretation of an aspect of him is different? Gosh, I guess they`re TOTALLY different people we`re discussing here!
as a Moderator of this site, you have not seen at least 30 or 40 posts of "God is Santa for adults"
Just when I`m about to lose faith in Baalth, he says something very intelligent!
There`s a world of difference between `seeing` and `understanding` ok? You can see the truth 40 times, but until you understand what it means? It doesn`t help much.
And davy took off his moderator hat to share his story with us, so give him a little slack!
His turning point is still there, he`s just turned a little further away from a belief in God (or Allah). There can be hundreds of `turning points` in someone`s life, not all of them need be 90 dgrees or more.
NOW why did I say Baalth said something (remember, just my opinion!) intelligent? Because both his points were on-topic and understandable! So what if I disagree, that`s kinda moot, eh?
Now Baalth and Boadicea should start dating, lmao! Ooo it`s late, I`ll see you tomorrow!

vv Alright Baal my old friend. I shouldn`t have used the words "turning point". I guess it was more of a reaffirmation.

On the second thing, of course I`ve seen the posts Santa for Adults etc, on this site and others. If you`re gently probing me to see if I`m plagiarising previously-spouted points, I`m not at all (I genuinely think religion is "Santa for Adults" all on my own.). I`m not in the business of regurgitating previous arguments, good logic or otherwise. It really was a genuine experience.

In other words. You were just wrong on every count.

1) They are all 3 about redemption.
2) They are all 3 equally "listen or else".
3) Even if they weren`t this remains an attribute, and therefore does not make them different gods.

That would be you Baalth! lolz! I`m never wrong about cats ;)
Or God for that matter, despite being a Deist.
Jews: Yahweh is going to send a Redeemer for our sins.
Christians: God has sent his only Son to redeem our sins.
Islam: Allah has sent His true Prophet (idk about the sins part) so listen or else!
Don`t be fooled by the similarity in English translations, these are three different Deities we`re talking about here. Yes! Jews and Christians worship a different God!
Now which is the ONE TRUE GOD? That`s for you to decide, eh? Freewill is a harsh mistress.

Dax2009.

The greek doesn`t says Gods, it says gods. (Small g)
The arabic doesn`t say Allahs, it says ilahs. (Same difference)

Where the bible says God (capital G), it is a translation from the Greek which says "the god". In Arabic, this is "al-ilah". al=the, ilah=god.

When concatenated, this becomes: God (Drop the "the" capitalize the G), and Allah (Drop the i).

Furthermore, a different attribute of God, does not make a different God. (By your logic, the Jews were worshiping some other God).

Lets go through an example:
If you give me a thirty page rundown of the life of Tom Cruise including his filmography. I give you the same. They are identical except I say he didn`t have pets, and you say he had a cat.

Now, options:
1) At least one of us is wrong about the cat.
2) There is an entirely different Tom cruise running around with an identical life to the first (is in all the same films, won the same awards).

A good point! And it helps illustrate what I`ve been saying (in my subtle way).
Catholics have stuck to their age-old beliefs like Male priests and no contraceptives. Other Christian groups have not (United Church, eh?). Catholics take a lot of heat for this, but Muslims get off scott free! Notice in this thread how one side quickly accuses Christians of "gay bashing" while ignoring (or worse, apologising for) the fact that Islamic nations put gays to death for simply being gay.
The more I learn about Islam the less I like, but that doesn`t mean I don`t like individual Muslims. Same for Christians, Jews, what have you.
I judge the person on individual merit, the religion on the merits of it`s masses.
I judge a lot of things, it`s human, er, cat nature to judge!

It was like pressing the reset switch on an automaton. I never would have believed the reaction if I hadn`t seen it with my own eyes. Instant servitude, grovelling and self-depreciation, in the face of not getting something nice.

And I thought to myself, "Wow! If only there was a similar way to control actual adults".

That was the point at which I ascertained a deeper understanding of what religion is. I`m not making this up, it really happened this week and it was a turning point for me. And it wasn`t in the direction of god, lemme tell ya.

Funny you mention that. If I can take off my impartial referee Mod hat for a moment (it`s stifling sometimes) which renders my alignment Lawful Neutral, and momentarily don my Regular User hat (which is more like Chaotic Good), I had a revelation last week, which I`d like to share.

I have a 3-year-old daughter. Last week, just before Christmas, my girl was acting up a bit. Nothing serious, but making life a bit difficult, as kids do. At those moments, with Christmas fast approaching, my wife just had to say to her: "Santa`s watching, now, you better behave!"

These mass murderers may have appeared to `follow` other religions but they certianly weren`t believers, eh? Many rejected God early on in life (Dahmer) band obviously they obeyed the laws of `do as thou wilt` as opposed to the laws of God. They murdered in obedience to the laws of atheism, IMHO.
As more `modern` countries like UK, Canada and soon the USA join the likes of Russia and China in having national atheism as the official religion, we are a poorer planet because of it, eh?

Modern Islam demands that gays be jailed and/or killed. Period. Today, not in ancient times. Not "some" ALL, if you are a Muslim you must believe this. Just like not eating pork, 5x a day paryers & etc.
Christianity USED TO do many bad things to homosexuals, this is true. Lately (past 100 years or so) it`s been more like "hate the sin not the sinner". Ok? Boadicea, you should talk to Baalth, lmao! Date, even.

Just a quick note to those who complain about all these "anti-Christian" posts on IAB. And furthermore to those who say it`s unfair, and we should post some anti-Islam, anti-Hindu, or for that matter anti-atheism material.

Look, we`re a website which tries to alleviate boredom and ennui in everyday life. That is all. It just so happens that there are not that many entertaining links out there bashing Allah, or Vishnu, or atheism for that matter. If they`re out there, submit them, and if they`re sweet, they`ll be posted.

We know some people get pissed off, but these kind of things (in moderation), generate lots of energy and discussion, get people up off their arse and get animated, and by definition, make people un-bored in one way or another. That`s all we`re trying to do.

"It`s cherry picked to for maximum effect. You know it, I know it!" Yes it is, and it has been abused for Millenia to justify just about every evil that one human can perpetrate on another.

Mindless religion is as abhorrent as mindless atheism. If you believe - read and learn why you believe, the same charge goes for non-belief.

As for metaphor vs literal - that`s not straight forward. The Bible is not a single piece of writing by a single author written with a single purpose. To believe that God created the world in the way explained in Genesis ignores the purpose of Genesis - to understand a Divine Being by understanding the underlying structure in the chaos of creation. Yet the teachings of Christ are not myth - even though the writings are distorted by 20-80`s of time there exists underlying principles - honor God, honor one another, care for those are unable to care for themselves.

The Bible is just the longest game of telephone ever played.

Some people had some stories (which likely happened and were great and realistic at the time) that were held on to for-- what? Decades before being written down and recorded. Then it was edited over more ridiculous periods of time, with people throwing in their own two cents, taking out what they didn`t agree with, adding some crap that made sense at the time, and continuing on.

For drat`s sake, they had a damn council to decide if Jesus was a part of God or not (among other things). Yeah, a council of random dudes really knew enough to decide about that. "Gee, do you think this guy that died a million years ago was made out of the almighty other guy nobody has ever seen? Let`s put it to a vote!"

It`s not worth getting worked up over; if you like it and want to live by its message, which I can only assume is be a decent person, then go nuts. I`d rather do that using common sense though.

Satan doesn`t exist, and even if it did, humanity really doesn`t need the help, we`re doing just fine without it.

As for this being hell, with 15,000,000 people dying of hunger every day while we in the "civilized" world sit back and stuff our gluttonous selves, I find it hard to believe that this isn`t hell. How much worse could hell be than babies starving to death while parents are helpless to prevent it?

You wont call me on anything! Religion is a house of cards. It`s based on fluffy thinking and faulty logic and most of all, fear. No christian can decided if the whole bible is literal or metaphorical. If it`s supposed to be literal then Genesis is in a lot of trouble and thats just for starters. If it`s metephorical then the whole things open for debate and nothing in the bible should be taken at face value...but thats not happening either!

It`s cherry picked to for maximum effect. You know it, I know it!

Oh and if your gonna try to be smart dont trip over before we even begin. Mohandas Karamchand Ghandi IS Mahatma Gandhi. The Indian people called Gandhi Mahatma, it meaning "Great Soul".
Either name is acceptable.

If God did exist, I say that he and Satan are the same thing. It`s like using aliases on the internet: just showing different aspects of your personality or screwing around. Only when it comes to this guy, he uses Satan as his straightforward dick self, and as God pretends to be nice and caring.

Only all the smiting kind of shows his true colours, as Satan is truly who he is, and he uses the God alias to keep people a little off-kilter and with a false sense of security.

So Satan is actually God, and "God" doesn`t even exist. We are in hell already. Chew on that.

0

Male 138
Satan does not exist in the Bible. That is a construct developed by the early Church, and strictly enforced by the Church of the middle/dark ages to allow humanity to blame the inherent evil that we perpetrate on one another, on some mythical "bogey man". Lucifer, as the term exists in canonical Scripture, was an angel given the task of bringing Light to the world, and assumed a role of Judge-Advocate, on behalf of God.

I still don`t get why God killed all these people... for sinning?. Surely an all knowing and all powerful God should have been able to foresee that mankind would have surcome to sin, and would have never created them in the first place. And don`t give me any of that ``Satan did it`` bollocks, because then Satan would surely be more powerful than God, and as one can not get anymore powerful than all powerful, one must assume that God is not all powerful, so that Satan could be more powerful than him. The whole of Christianity is just too full of loopholes to be believable.

And it`s not christian-bashing that I take issue with, since this material includes Jewish Scripture, also. If you have an issue with my faith in Christ, take it up with me, and I will respect your belief/non-belief, and most likely agree with you that the history and current place of "The Church" is pathetic. How is `God` the same as `Allah`? God is generally generic in English; if we talk of the Christian God, then He had a son, Jesus - although WHAT He is is God, one being, His nature is Triune.

Baal, you are right. Muslims even respect Jesus as a great man, but don`t believe that he was the messiah.

I love these Theist/Atheist debates. One thing we must understand is, When you first recognize yourself as an atheist, it`s a lot like when somebody first begins to follow religion. There`s an immediate desire to go forth, and try to shift other people towards your particular viewpoint. "It makes so much sense to me, why shouldn`t it to someone else, right". This often results in a Preachy christian 20 something acting as morality police, or a crotchety Atheist 20 something trolling about, curb stomping others beliefs like defective kittens. No group is right, really. We are all dickweeds. So lets try and act Civil, Dammit

Really? You know that you only look stupid with the arguing.

Hitler did not directly use the TOE, but mearly a warped twisted version of it. Hitler took it to mean survival of the fittest, whereas the actual TOE says survival of the best adapted

I`d suggest that you do a little more research into Hitler`s reasoning for what he did.

Why are Christians so intolerant to anti-Christian posts?
Why are Atheists so intolerant to anti-Atheist posts?

Rinse and repeat for every religion, culture, race, group, etc.

Bottom line is, people can`t laugh at a good joke about themselves, and ignore the rubbish ones.

This is funny! But I gotta say, all the atheists/agnostics who point to religion and laugh are really no better. People HAVE used religion as an excuse to do terrible things, but I know at least one person (Hitler) who used the principles of genetics and evolution to justify a genocide. Yes, he twisted those principles to justify his own purpose, but that`s the exact same argument people of faith use when someone says their religion is violent. It`s people who cause violence, and blaming it on religion is a bigoted and ignorant thing to do.

Okay, I get that a lot of the people on this site aren`t religious, but why am I getting my religion poked fun at every time I come on this site to have a little fun? Not specifically this post, I guess, but most of the other ones aren`t even funny, which is what annoys me - they`re up strictly to incite flame wars and insult people. I`m really sick of dodging these posts, there`s at least 5 or 6 a week nowadays.

The Crusades, if anything, would be tagged under "Satan", not "God".

Secondly, the graph is talking about kills IN THE BIBLE. Are you suggesting the Crusades are in the bible? I`ll give you a clue: The last book of the bible was written about a thousand years before the crusades.

To be fair, there have been 2 anti atheist posts that I know of, so your 100% is wrong.

Furthermore, Allah, for all intensive purposes, is God. "The God of Moses" "The creator of the universe" "The Father" "The Divine Creator" etc.

Arab Christians call God "Allah", English Muslims call Allah "God".

Mohammed`s personal body count is actually fantastically small, saying as all battles prior to his death were between small tribal factions, it was only upon his death that there was any real expansion under Abu Bakr:
Link.

this assume of course you count all people under Mohammed as being part of his Bodycount (even if the battles were defensive). If not, it dwindles to the tens.

`Vengeance is mine, sayeth the Lord`

Remember that from the bible somewhere (think it is in one of the corinthians).

God killed all the bad people to protect the jews.

Bible doesn`t record as many of the actions of satan.

God is more powerful than satan.

Satan? 10 really? Which version of the Bible is that info from? Are you counting those he`s resposible for, or just the ones he personally did? AS for `God`s numbers`, it`s just more anti-christian slag.
Yes, by all means put up a chart for Allah, and Vishnu. Mohamed`s personal body count is impressive too.

And to everyone here that keeps commenting on things being "anti-god" or "anti-religion," get a clue. There`s never been an anti-Islam, anti-Buddhist, anti-Atheist, or anti-Evolution post here.

No. It has ALL been, 100% anti-Christian. Christianity is the only religion that is apparently okay to be ridiculed and mocked in the name of free speech here at IAB.

But yeah, the Bible was totally wrong when it predicted that all Christians would be hated and the Bible would be rejected for false teachings. Way to fall in line with prophecy, lemmings :)

And tell me, who says that all those people didn`t deserve to be killed? We aren`t the judge. God would be perfectly just to wipe us all out at this very moment without a moment of mercy, but He doesn`t.

Enough with the Anti-Christian propaganda. Let`s start posting things that show the billions of people slaughtered in the name of Allah.

Standards:
Are you suggesting that the original poster had no intention of starting a flame war?

Are you suggesting that if I didn`t pitch in, there would be nothing but serene calm in this forum?

I put to you that:
a) She did, and therefore, she started it.
b) The blissful silence would be broken by the sounds of fapping, after what started as self congratulatory argumentation devolved into outright mutual masturbation.

Trust me, I provide a service here.

So let me get this straight.

If God does exist, along with the surrounding philosophy (heaven/hell etc). God is just moving people from one place to another (both of which are kinda his) using infinite wisdom.

If God doesn`t exist, he didn`t kill anybody.

Satan is a prick either way, who gets his jollies causing men to kill each other, and (again referring to the philosophy) is pretty much the reason any man kills any other man.

.... oh whoops, sorry forgot where I was for a second, I`m on IAB. LOL ITS FUNNY COS RELIGION IS WRONG AND I HAVE FARTED OUT ALL THE ABILITY TO CONSIDER ANYTHING OBJECTIVELY ROFL!!!! (Insert Flying spaghetti monster, hitler, IPU, Epicurus quote as needed).
