some people are just really nice, and the world definitely needs more of them.

Reminds me of our prom night, when this lovely older woman next to our table paid for our meal. It was so nice. She didn`t want us to know it was her, but we found out when one of our friends talked to the granddaughter in the bathroom.

This reminds me of when I was little.. my mother sent us to this vacation bible camp and we listened to this story about "Goodness Guerillas" or something, and for some reason I decided when I took a walk with my sister to bring the paper at the end of every driveway to the doorsteps. So on one house we left anote, too, on a piece of stationery, saying "We like your garden"... what I didnt realize was that our home phone number was on the paper... we got a call, my mom answered, and I was beet red with embarassment...

sumguyin267, maybe it wasn`t a 24 hour diner and it stopped when the diner closed and the last customers didn`t have anyone else`s tab to pay for. that`s what i`m going with.

You know this happened to me in a line at a drive up window. I ended up buying coffee for four people in the car behind me when all I ordered was an Americano.

"...this can happen more than once in a blue moon."

Well, technically, December`s moon is a blue moon this year, so maybe it is precisely once in a blue moon...

This happened at the Starbucks I used to work at. It went on for 3 hours! People were even leaving $20 tips. It`s nice to hear that this can happen more than once in a blue moon.

The generosity is that one person did something else for a stranger. Forget about logistics or technicalities, it`s about continuing a sense of community! Why are people so jaded these days. That was a wonderful article and gave me goosebumps. Those of you that are pooh-pooing this article are a bunch of grinches!

This is only an "awhh" story for anyone that dosn`t use their brain. Not much has changed, you`re still paying, its just being juggled around more. The only person getting a freebie is the person at the end of the chain, and I`m sure after its been going a couple hours, everyone is going to think that last person is a total bastard for breaking the streak.

Some of them would have also paid more and anyone of them that passed it on could have stopped and gotten the free meal then walked away but instead they chose to continue the chain without being concerned about how much the bill was for the person they paid for.

ARGH! I posted the same idea as Gorodetsky at the original local news site. This is NOT generosity for anyone othe than the original couple. Every couple after that pays for 1 meal, the same as they would have otherwise. In fact, some of them will naturally end up paying LESS than they would have (if they cover a cheaper meal)--that`s the exaxt _opposite_ of generosity. If this is what counts as generosity in America, we`re a sad sad country.

Umm.... So basically, they paid for one meal a peice, How is that kindness? They were paying for only one meal, and were planning on paying for their own anyway...

This is a great story! I wish things like this would spread through the whole country, and then the world!

Saw that in a movie. They caught up to him a half mile down the road and slit his throat. It was a good one.

There`s a better way to do this. When you`re ready to leave the restaurant, you approach a stranger who has just started eating and offer to pay for his meal. Tell him that when you get to the cash register, to wave so the cashier will know whose meal to ring up. Then you tell the cashier that the guy in the green shirt said he would pay for your meal. Then you wave at him, and he smiles and waves back.

FREE LUNCH! }-)
